Lone Wolf (h.s au)
The pillow beneath my head is soft and I open my eyes, rolling over in the bed.
âMae,â I hear Harry, his body walking towards me.
âWhy do you keep fainting?â he asks, my hand covering my forehead.
âI faint at overbearing news,â I say.
He sits on the side of the bed, my eyes flickering to look at him. He has a shirt on now, the white material allowing his arms to be completely tan. He shoved the sleeves to his elbows and itâs tight on his torso. Why is he so attractive?
âThatâsâ¦unfortunate,â he says, my lips curving.
âIt is,â I slightly laugh, my body sitting up. His lips are still in a straight line and I rub my eye, knowing he doesnât like to be happy.
âDo you want something to eat?â he asks, my head nodding. He grabs my arm and helps me stand, leading me out of his room and into the kitchen.
âMy mother and sister have left for the weekend to get groceries and clothes for you. I got some earlier,â he says, my eyes seeing my bag on the couch.
âThanks,â I say, still nervous about staying here. Iâm not allowed to leave.
âYouâll be able to leave. Justâ¦not alone,â Harry says, my eyes looking at him.
âWhat?â Did I say that out loud?
âYou donât know what you said?â He looks at me as if I have three eyes but I shake my head, telling him I thought I said it in my head.
He nods and starts making something on the stove, his body moving to sit beside me.
âDo you know what happened to my friends?â I ask, his eyes locking on mine.
âA wolf from your fatherâs pack killed them. I killed the wolf and brought you here,â he explains, getting up to hand me a mug of tea.
âWhy arenât you in a pack?â I ask, his lips pursing.
âThey were killed in an accident. They were in a fire and didnât make it out,â he explains, my hand grabbing his lightly.
âIâm sorry,â I whisper, his eyes dead set on our hands. I let go quickly and he looks at me, not knowing how to react.
âIt doesnât matter. Iâm a pack-less Alpha,â he says, my hands moving my hair to the top of my head.
âThen why do people from the other pack keep coming to you?â I ask, his lips pouting.
âYou have to understand that your father is ruthless and most of his pack wants out. Dean, his father, your father and his mate are the four strongest members and everyone else hates it. I have six wolves, Zayn, Louis, Liam, Niall, Andy, and Ed that are on my side in an alliance.â
I nod and he sighs. âThe reason you canât leave is because your father has wolves all around this forest that will take you to his camp for him to keep you,â he says, my eyes looking at him.
âWhy would that be bad?â I ask, his eyebrows furrowing together.
âBecause youâre my mate!â he nearly yells, my body shying away from him. He sighs, my fingers letting go of the mug.
âSorry,â he mutters, my head nodding.
âThey capture you, itâs over. I will never see you or protect you because he will lock you up in a room. Itâs sick but if any part of you is wolf and wakes up, he loses everything. Because Iâm an Alpha, youâre whatâs called a Luna,â he says, my head nodding.
âAnd Luna essentially means âQueenâ.â
I smile and he stands, plating whatever he had just made. He sets a hamburger in front of me, the bun not on it.
âYouâre allergic to wheat,â he says, my eyes looking up at him.
âHow did yo-â
âI told you. I know everything about you,â he says, his eyes looking into mine.
He already cut the meat so I poke the meat with the fork, taking a bite. His eyes are burning into my skin, watching me in a way Iâm slightly intimidated by. But I know he wonât hurt me. Heâs told me on multiple occasions.
âBut I know nothing about you,â I retaliate after a minute, his eyebrow rising at my stamina.
âThen what do you want to know?â he asks, my lips surrounding the fork.
âWhatâs your full name?â I ask, his lips smirking at me.
âThatâs your first question?â he asks, amused at my attempt to get to know him before I ask him about his wolf background.
âYes. Can you please answer it?â
âHarry Edward Styles,â he says, âBut I go by Harry all the time. No Alpha shit.â
I smile and nod, continuing to eat the burger.
âDo you have any nicknames?â He shakes his head.
âUsed to. My mother called me Haz. It got old after I became a foot taller than her and scared her. I didnât choose to be this way,â he says, sighing heavily at his frustration.
âCan you tell me about your experiences? You know, with the transformation?â I ask, his head nodding.
âI was told by my father at a young age Iâd be Alpha. I didnât know what the hell he was talking about until I started training when I was ten. I had to run and endure the cold, running nearly naked through the winter weather. He was harsh on me the year of my transformation. It hurt like hell.â
His words are slightly edged and anger takes over his face, my eyes watching him carefully to best understand.
âI was fourteen and I was walking through the woods when my spine twisted. Every bone in your body breaks and I was alone. No one heard me and I thought I was dying. When I woke up, I was a wolf. I didnât know what to do with myself so I ran away. Coming home, my father was watching and knew it was me immediately. He told me how to change back and I was naked on the floor, scared once I did. He passed that winter due to his age and I started doing everything on my own. I grew with the pack and became the Alpha I was supposed to be. The accident happened and now Iâm alone again,â he says, my eyebrows furrowed at the pain he must have endured.
âTransformations are easier when youâve mated already. Usually the males transform first, then their mates. Itâs horrifying alone,â he says, my head nodding.
âSo if I were toâ¦you know, become a wolf, it would be easier because youâre there?â I ask, his head nodding.
âBut youâre nineteen and most females transform between thirteen and sixteen. Itâs highly unlikely,â he says, my head nodding.
âBut, from what Iâve seen happen, is during claiming. A purebredâs wolf instinct can be woken through the claiming process. Itâs happened before,â he says, my fingers pushing the empty plate to the middle of the table.
âThe biting thing?â I ask, his head nodding.
âThe saliva from the wolf inflicting the claiming enables the wolf genes to activate and pain would immediately overtake the system. Itâs another reason Iâm against it.â
âSo Iâm basically here for no reason then?â I ask out of curiosity, the man clearly not capable of any sort of relationship, let alone mating.
âNo, there is a reason youâre here,â he states slightly agitated.
âThey why?â I continue, his body leaning towards mine.
âBecause I want to protect you. Itâs my natural instinct and to think of someone else remotely touching you sickens me. Iâm the only one,â he states, my eyes looking into his.
âAnd trust me, as much as I resist mating, there is nothing I want more than to continue seeing your smile.â
As I do just that, I see his eyes glint and I take notice to an eyelash on his cheek. My hand cups his cheek and I brush my thumb against the soft skin, his eyes on me as I retract the eyelash.
âSorry, you had an eyelash,â I say, his head nodding.
âItâs alright,â he says, leaning towards me.
âI donât scare you, do I?â he asks, my head shaking.
âYou were very intimidating, at first. But youâre talking to me now,â I say, his hand moving to my cheek.
But before he says another word, his body jolts up and I watch him. His hand opens the door and I stand behind him, my eyes spotting what he sees. The wolf stands at the top of the hill and Harry runs, jumping and turning into his wolf. More wolves surround him and I watch the interaction occur, my heart beating wildly.
A wolf jumps onto Harry and he howls, my hand covering my lips. A few wolves run off and I watch Harry flash into human, his body grabbing his side. Men surround him, assumingly his alliance, and lift him. I run out and their eyes look at me, my hand holding Harryâs head up.
âWill he be okay?â I ask, their heads nodding.
âYou must be Mae?â one asks, my head nodding.
âIâm Liam,â the bearded one says, my head nodding. The others say their names and I nod, Harry in excruciating pain.
They set him on his bed and Harry grabs my hand, setting it on his ribcage. He looks up at me and I ask him what he needs, his face twisted into pain.
âCut⦠your finger,â he pants out, my confusion high. I ask Liam to get something and he takes a small pocket knife to the tip of my finger.
âPut itâ¦on my rib,â Harry says, flinching. I place my finger on the scratch and it bubbles, my eyes looking at Harry ask he yells.
âGet him ice,â I say, Niall nodding. He rushes back with a bag of ice and Harryâs side is nearly healed, his ribs clearly sprained.
âLeave,â he says to the men, immediately all of them out the door.
âMae,â he breathes, my hand pressing the ice to his side to his disagreement.
âDo you want to get better?â I ask, his pain expressed through his eyes.
âYes, but I-â I place my finger on his lips and shake my head.
âJust relax. They can handle everything tonight,â I say, his head resting on his pillow.
âIt fucking hurts so bad,â he writhes, my hand grabbing his as he lies on his back.
âCan you move to your right?â I ask, his body sliding over. I set the icepack on the bed and grab a scarf I see on his wall. I wrap the icepack onto his body and he pulls my hand closer.
âDo you need me to get you anything?â I ask, his eyes on mine.
âNo. Are you okay to sleep in the other room?â he asks, my head nodding.
âIâm fine. You need to get rest,â I say, his green eyes watching me closely as always.
âYou call me if you need me. Fuck the pain,â he says, my hand shoving his shoulder down.
âHarry, you hurt your ribs. Stay in bed.â
He presses his lips together again and I lean down, whispering in his ear.
âPlease stay here so you can heal,â I whisper, his head turning to look at me.
He sighs before he nods, my lips curving.
âThank you. Now you sleep and Iâll take care of you,â I say, kissing his forehead and walking out the room.
I close his door and I cover my mouth, my eyes closing. My lips are warm, his skin scorching my lips. But I canât believe I allowed myself to do that.
