Chapter 14. Climactic Moments

In This Together ▷ Stilinski

"I still think this is a bad idea," I mumbled as I followed behind Stiles, who was breezing his way through the hallway, his left hand latched around my wrist as I struggled to keep up with him. The hallway was empty, due to the fact that classes were still going on. Jesus if we get a detention for not having a hall pass, I swear to god.

Stiles sighed outwardly, "I know that this bond you have with Lydia freaks you out, but I think it actually might come in handy right about now."

He's right, I know he is. The entire car ride back to school I was trying to connect myself with Deaton so I could find some sort of information about his whereabouts, but nothing happened. I still have issues connecting with people that aren't Lydia, so if she can maybe use her freakish ability to find a body that is dead or about to be dead, then maybe I can link my thoughts with her's and get a damn reading on the situation.

"I don't know where she is--"

"Athletic's closet that's by the boy's locker room." I cut him off without even thinking about it. What the hell?

Stiles reeled his head back to glance at me in confusion, "What did you just say?"

"Uh, um... I don't know where that came from." How did that just happen to come out of my mouth? That was weird.

"Add that to the list of weird things that has happened in the past 24 hours then," He mumbled as he turned the hallway that led to the boy's locker room.

This whole bond with Lydia thing is getting stronger and stronger by the day, and I have no idea why I am so connected to her. We literally have nothing in a common, and to be honest she wouldn't exactly be my first choice in a female companion. She scare's me.

Just as we approached the locker room door the fire alarm began to sound, and doors of classrooms opened as the students poured out into the hallway. Stiles sighed as he pulled the door open and stomped into the locker room, paying the fire alarm no mind.

"What if there is an actual fire?" I questioned as he released my wrist and slipped his fingers into the spaces between mine, due to the fact that he was no longer tugging me behind him and we were now walking at the same pace.

He shrugged, "When has a fire alarm at school ever been pulled because there was an actual fire?"

"That's probably not a good assumption to go on, babe. I mean... this time could be an actual fire." I pointed out as he groaned in annoyance, I knew there wasn't an actual fire-- it's not even around lunch time and Harris is gone so there is no chemistry experiments going on that require a flame.

When we rounded the corner to the athletic's closet, my eyes widened at the two people that just happen to be standing there. Lydia and Cora. Why the hell is Cora even in this closet? She doesn't even go here. Plus, I'm pretty sure it's illegal for her to be in here without a visitor's pass.

I don't know what kind of exchange was going on before Stiles and I walked up, but for some reason Cora snatched Lydia's wrist forcefully and cocked her head to the side in a dangerous fashion. Lydia clenched her jaw, "Let go."

"I said--"

"Let go." Stiles' spoke up, which caught both Lydia and Cora off guard. His voice took a very authoritive tone, and I glanced at him oddly, very rarely does he ever sound that forceful.

"Yeah, she said let go." I sassed as I smirked at the younger Hale sibling. Cora scoffed as she dropped Lydia's wrist and crossed her arms over her chest. Whoa, I feel like a badass.

✠

"A Ouija board?" Lydia asked skeptically as we watched my boyfriend pull the board out of the box. Since Harris is out of commision at the moment, we were gathered in his empty classroom. Lydia was seated at one of the tables with Cora on her side, while Stiles and I stood at the edge of the table.

Stiles nodded, "Also called a spirit board, and it's worth a shot."

"A shot in the dark," Lydia retorted as she glanced at the board in disbelief.

I don't blame her, I really don't think this will work either. I mean, whenever Lydia and I have used our... abilities, in the past, it was never because we were trying to use them. It just sort-of happens and we have no way of stopping it. Which is what frustrates me to no freaking end because it literally comes out of nowhere.

"Could you just try it, please, okay? Let's not forget who this is for, Scott's boss, the guy who has saved our collective asses on more than one occasion." Stiles replied in exasperation as he looked at her. I could see the irritation he had with this whole situation flash in his eyes before he collected himself and it vanished. The way he is able to keep himself under control in the most stressful of situations never ceases to amaze me.

Cora finally spoke up, "Okay so do we all do this?"

I nodded, "Yeah... and Stiles I swear to god if this summons some type of paranormal activity shit on me I'm gonna kill you."

We all placed our hands on the little arrow piece and sat in silence as we waited for it to move or shake, but it didn't seem to be doing much. I glanced at Lydia and she had a look of pure annoyance plastered across her face, Cora appeared to look like she would rather be anywhere but here, and Stiles has his eyes narrowed in concentration on the little arrow.

A sigh escaped me after a minute of sitting like this, "Not to be pessimistic or anything, but I don't think this is working."

Lydia and Cora both retracted their hands instantantly, "I told you that it wouldn't." The strawberry blond know-it-all pointed out.

Stiles groaned as he pulled a pair of keys out of his pocket, "Okay, here are Deaton's keys for the clinic. Close your eyes, and I'm gonna put 'em in your hand. And then we're just gonna try and see if you can feel out for his location. It's called Psychometry."

Lydia pursed her lips as she turned to face me and my boyfriend, "I'm not a psychic."

"No, but you're something. We're something. And maybe this will help." I stressed as I let out a deep breath to try and calm myself down. I was getting antsy now. We're running out of time and we need to do something, and Lydia being a butt about it doesn't help the situation at all.

Stiles rolled his eyes as he held the keys out, "Hold out your hand, and close your eyes. I'm gonna drop them just tell us if you see something or feel something."

As he dropped the keys Lydia jolted a bit in her seat and made an odd noise, did she feel something. Stiles jumped to ask the question first, "What? Did you see something?"

"No, they're cold." She replied awkwardly.

I bit down on the inside of my cheek as I watched Stiles' eyes begin to slightly twitch from the irritation he was feeling towards Lydia right now. I wish I could just pop up with some sort-of answer like I had with where Lydia had been earlier. It would make this process so much easier.

"Lydia, concentrate. Please? I'm trying to save lives here, for the love of god." He muttered the last sentence as he looked down at the ground. Lydia looked confused for a moment at how stressed out he was over this. She doesn't understand just how stresseful this entire situation has been on us.

She sighed and closed her eyes, her grip on the keys tightening. I watched her hopefully, praying that her brain would catch wind of something and then I would see it too, just as clearly as I have in the past. "Do you see anything?" I asked her.

"No. Nothing." She replied.

I groaned loudly as yet another one of our attempts fell short. Why is this so hard? Whoever invented mine and Lydia's sporadic abilities sucks major balls. It's so inconvienent. The one time that I actually need to link myself to someone, and I can't do it.

Stiles snatched a pencil off of the desk and held it out for Lydia, "Okay let's try automatic writing."

"Automatic writing?" Lydia echoed as she glanced at the pencil. He nodded with his eyes narrowed and she reached for the pencil with a roll of her eyes. I watched as she began to draw something on the notebook in front of her, not even bothering to say anything before she began.

I glanced at the image oddly, "Lydia what are you doing? What the hell is that?"

"A tree." She answered simply.

Stiles was about to go off the deep end at this point, "A tr-- Lydia you're supposed to be writing words, like in sentences. Something like a location, something that could tell us where he is."

"Well, maybe you should've said that." She remarked defensively.

Cora glanced at Lydia before looking at Stiles, "Isn't she supposed to be some kind of genius?"

"Genius, yes. Psychic, no. Honestly, I don't know why you're even bothering with me anyway. Especially since it's obvious you should be talking to Danny." Lydia replied as she continued to draw her tree. The image was giving me an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach, and I don't know why. I do know that I don't like it though..

"Wait what? Why Danny?" Stiles asked in confusion.

"Because last night he was a target, just not a sacrifice." Scott's voice echoed around the classroom. I jumped slightly at the sound of his voice, when I glanced at the doorway to see him, I noticed he had a hand pressed against his shoulder, and some blood was soaking through his plaid shirt. Oh what the hell.

✠

"You want to break into his hospital room?!" I hissed under my breath as I glanced over my shoulder worriedly. Stiles had convinced me to come with him to the hospital, where my mother happens to work, so he could break into Danny's hospital room to get answers. If my mom catches me here and not at school, she's going to kill me.

Stiles' eyes widened as he glanced around the hallway, "Shhh! Technically I'm not breaking in, the door isn't locked."

"Oh wow, yeah, that totally clears it up, thank you for explaining that to me." I retorted as he rolled his eyes and twisted the knob on the door, slowly pushing it open. The lights were off, and Danny appeared to be sleeping peacefully. Great, he won't be able so answer any of our questions now. And he's probably all doped up too.

Stiles made his way to the far side of Danny's bed while I closed the door and pulled the little blinds thing down over the window. I turned on my heel to find Stiles hitting Danny's cheek, "Danny you awake?" He whispered as he once again hit his face. My eyes widened when Danny gasped and moved around on his bed. Stiles sprung back and pulled his hand to his chest, "Wow okay."

I sighed as I rubbed at my temples, "Will you hurry up?" I whispered harshly.

"Don't rush me," He retorted as he glanced at something on the ground, he then slowly lowered himself to the floor. What the hell is down there? Without another second to waste, I crept over to the bed so I could see what was down there, and with me being the clumsy person I am, my foot caught on the edge of the chair beside the bed and caused the wooden bottom to scrape across the floor loudly.

I winced as I watched Danny turn his head to face me, his eyes barely open, he looked completely out of it. "What are you doing?" He asked me, his voice sounded kind of slurred, like he was drunk or on a lot of drugs.

"Me? I'm not doing anything, Danny. This is actually a dream that you're having right now." I responded, Stiles popped his head up on the other side of the bed and started to violantly shake his head from side to side, telling me to shut up.

"Why are you two in here? Why is Stiles going through my stuff?" Danny questioned. Damn, for a guy who is supposed to be out of it he really is attentive.

Stiles groaned to himself before he spoke up, "Right...but only in the dream, remember? Dream. Dreaming."

"Why would I dream about you going through my stuff?"

I sighed as I shook my head from side to side, this guy just won't stop asking freaking questions. I knew this was a bad idea. Nothing good can come from sneaking into someone's hospital room. I'll be sure to write that one down.

"I don't know that Danny, okay? It's your dream. Take responsibility for it. Now shut up and go back to sleep." Stiles muttered as he sunk back down to the floor.

With as much delicateness that I could muster, I tip-toed to the other side of the bed so I could see what it was exactly that Stiles was looking at. When I approached him, I crouched down and peered over his shoulder to see a packet of paper that had Telluric Currents titled across the front.

"Oh Danny boy, you might have actually found something here." Stiles mumbled to himself.

I sighed as I stood up and brushed my hands on my pants, "Well done Stilinski. Now, let's get out of here before someone catches us."

Stiles nodded as he stood up and grabbed my hand with his that wasn't holding Danny's project. As we walked out of the room and down the hallway, that uneasy feeling began to creep up the back of my neck again. I hate when that happens. It means something bad is about to happen to someone I care about, and I know that it means if we don't hurry Deaton is gonna be killed.

As soon as we got out of the hospital my cell phone began to ring, upon glancing at the screen saw that it was Scott that was calling me.

"Hey, what's up?" I answered.

"Deaton's gotta be at one of the six locations that Allison's dad had mapped out, but they're all over town. I don't know how we can get to all of them fast enough," Scott said to me over the phone.

I sighed, "Well, we might not have to. Danny was doing a project for Mr. Harris' Physic's class and I think it might actually mean something."

"What project?" My brother asked in total confusion.

Stiles had the paper's in his hands, so I hand to snatch them away from him so I could try and pronouce the word on the front, "Something about Telluric Currents.

"Did you say currents?"

I nodded to myself, "Yep."

✠

"Okay so what does this kid's homework have to do with finding Deaton?" Cora asked as Stiles and Scott began to sift through the papers. We were now at the animal clinic, Lydia, Cora, and my brother had joined Stiles and myself and we were now trying to figure out what the hell this while current situation thing can mean.

Stiled sighed, "Because it's not just homework, okay? It's a project on geomagnetic fields. They flow through the earth, they can even be affected by lunar phases, alright? Now look at this. This is a note from Harris on Danny's proposal."

I read the note out-loud so Cora and Scott could hear it, because they were on the opposite side of the table of Stiles, Lydia, and myself, "I strongly advise you to choose another subject. The idea's here, while innovative and thoughtful, border on pseudo science. Not suitable for class." Now what I was able to gather from that was that Harris wasn't just a sacrifice, he knew something, or possibly many somethings."

Stiles nodded, "Yeah. Now check this out. Allison's dad wasn't the only one with a map, alright? Danny had one too. He marked all the Telluric Currents, okay? Now the weird thing about Beacon Hills is that it actually is a Beacon. You wouldn't believe how much energy flowing through the earth is around this town."

Scott then placed down his little pieces of the map that he printed off from Allison's dad's marked map on top of Danny's map, and he picked up on something about them. "Guys look, they match. Alright, there's three places, right? Where they're kidnapped, and the place where their body is found." He then began to circle the places on the map with a pen.

I pointed at the X that was drawn on top of where Danny had the current drawn, "Look, this one is right on the current."

"So maybe where he is sacrificed is somewhere in between."

Stiled grabbed the pen out of my brother's hand, "Let me see that. You said there were six more bodies that are going to be found. Deaton's one of them. It's got to be somewhere in between, right?"

Cora then grabbed Stiles hand, "Stop." I watched in confusion as she slid his hand to the spot above the map that had Beacon Hills First National Bank printed on it.

"He's in the vault. He's in the same vault." She stated.

Scott nodded as he began to make his way to the door, "Guys wait."

"We don't have time to--" Scott began to cut Cora off, but before he could she began to speak again.

"It's from Boyd. The plan didn't work. They cut the power."

My eyes widened when I realized what was happening. We were going to have to make a choice on who to save. Deaton or Derek. Scott looked very conflicted as to what to do, and you could see the wheels in his head turning at a thousand miles per hour as he tried to think of something to do.

"Go. I can save Deaton on my own." My brother finally spoke.

I glanced at him in confusion, "I'm sorry, what? You can't go alone. What about us?"

"Cora can get there faster if Stiles drives her. Go and save Derek." He said quickly as he ran out of the clinic.

Stiled sighed as he grabbed my hand tightly, "Alright let's go."

✠

"Which one turns the power back on?" I asked in confusion as we glanced at all of the red switched on the outlet box of the building. We were going to switch the electricity back on so Isaac's little plan would work, and I was in charge of being the one to text Isaac when he needed to get the hell out of dodge.

Cora glanced at the switched briefly before responding, "All of them. Just pull all of them."

I took that as my cue to text Isaac, so I sent my one word command and watched at every single red switch was flicked. I hope this all works out okay. God I hope Derek, Isaac, and Boyd are out of the freaking water.

"Come on!" Cora shouted as she began to run out of the room frantically. Lydia, Stiles, and I followed behind her as she ascended the stairs rather than risking the wait for the elevator. I've noticed that when you panic you tend to go for the longer way to do things, rather than the shorter and easier ways.

When we got to Derek's loft, I saw Miss Blake and Isaac sitting in the doorway huddled together. What is she doing here? She seemed just as surprised to Stiles and I stumble up as we were to see her. I can't worry about her right now though. I'll work on that tomorrow.

My eyes traveled to Cora, who was running through the loft that had about four inches of water flooded all throughout. Boyd was laying in the water, lifeless, while Derek was kneeled beside him, his head hung low. My hand flew up to my mouth when I realized that he had been the one to kill Boyd. Holy shit. Kali is ruthless.

Cora was crying as she held on to Boyd's body, and Stiles was standing behind Derek with a hand on his shoulders as he cried silently. I swallowed thickly as it sunk in that this was only the beginning of what was about to come. And nothing was ever going to be the same after this moment in time.
