Chapter 393
Daddy, Mommy had been in Prison
These were things Robert still didnât understand after heâd lost his memory.
Because he hadnât fallen in love with Sierra after heâd lost his memory, and Sierra was Emma. Robert didnât understand why, for those several years, heâd let Emma take a place at his side as his fiancé.
After all, heâd loved Georgia both before and after heâd lost his memory.
At that question, Georgia chuckled.
âWhat? Youâre doubting yourself too much, you know. Do you not understand if youâve been doing the right things before?â
Robertâs face was sunken. He felt that, according to his personality, he wouldnât have gone and found someone he didnât like as his fiancé so easily.
âItâs complicated. You told me about it in general once, along with what happened between us. Summing up, thereâs a lot of factors.
âI gave birth to Annie because Owen had been ready to send me to Chester Rogersâ bed.â
Speaking of Chester, Georgia explained her dealings with him, and Robertâs expression darkened.
âHeâs got some nerve slobbering after you. Where is he now? Did he do anything to you?â
âHeâs dead.â
Georgia said simply, and began again with Robertâs question.
âThat night, I escaped from the hotel room. Chester didnât manage to do what he wanted with me, and I went into your room. Thatâs why we had Annie. Back then, I was drugged, and you were drugged too. You later said that it was Jenniferâs doing. Sheâd always had thoughts about you, and so did that kind of thing that night. Thatâs how the two of us came to be back then.
âBut the day after, I returned to the Lane household, and they knocked me out, then set me at the scene of the car crash, making me your sisterâs killer. And you were looking for the person whoâd shared your bed that night, because Iâd left a piece of my jewelry in your room and the Lane family number, Emma pretended to be me. Maybe because you wanted to take responsibility, and Iâm guessing also maybe because Jennifer was chasing after you so hard you wanted a fiancé to use as a shield, you decided to get engaged. Those are only the reasons I know. Iâm not sure if there are others.â
Georgia had spoken in casual tones, but Robertâs heart hurt at that.
âWere those five years in prison really bad?â
Robert could instinctively guess if heâd mistaken Georgia for being responsible for the crash.
According to his motherâs personality and his own, the Simpsons couldnât have let the killer off so easily.
So he couldnât help but ask.
Georgia flinched, thinking instantly of those five dark years.
âIt wasnât nice, but itâs in the past now. Iâm free and happy. Letâs not bring up the past.â
Georgia didnât want to bring it up, and Robert didnât dare ask on.
He felt that if anything bad had happened to Georgia in prison before, it was probably his doing.
Even if he couldnât remember now.
He took Georgiaâs hand in his own, suddenly starting to pray.
With all those things heâd done wrong in the past, this time, no matter how his body check results came out, he had to find a way to recover.
For the rest of his life, he had to protect his lover.
Otherwise, if he couldnât keep himself well, he wouldnât be able to face up to Georgia at all from now on.
The two chatted the rest of the journey away, talking about the past.
About an hour later, Georgia and Robert arrived at Astonâs bedroom.
Jasper was in the same hospital right now, and Robertâs test results would come from this hospital in the afternoon.
This was the best hospital in the city, so them doing it all under the same roof wasnât anything surprising.
Astonâs face looked very pale, and there was an IV drip running into his arm.
There wasnât anybody else in the room when Georgia and Robert came in, and he was alone looking out the window, appearing a bit lonely.
Hearing the sound, he turned around to see Georgia.
Then he saw Robert beside her, and smiled faintly.
âCongratulations, you two.â
Aston greeted Georgia and Robert.
Robert suddenly asked a question.
âWhich one of us is older?â
Aston jolted, seemingly not expecting Robert to ask such a question.
But he still answered.
âIâm several months older than you.â
With that, Robert walked up and spoke respectfully.
âThat makes you my older cousin then. As Georgiaâs husband, weâre officially acquainted now.â
Georgia giggled at Robertâs act, and Aston floundered for a while before smiling.
âHave you recovered your memories?â
âNot yet. But since youâre Georgiaâs cousin, youâre also my cousin. Youâre part of Georgiaâs family. A while ago, I didnât have the best attitude and did some things to hurt Georgia, so naturally, I have to treat Georgiaâs family a bit better, or you wonât give me another chance if I make another mistake.â
âWhich you wonât dare, right?â
Georgia chuckled and shot a look at Robert from the side, who only smiled Astonâs expression relaxed, seemingly influenced by the sweet atmosphere between Georgia and Robert.
He spoke, sighing.
âFrom knowing you a year ago and looking at all sorts of conflicts between you in the beginning, then coming back to all this thatâs happened between the two of you, all those twists and turns, and you still ended up together. You look so happy now. Seems like fate has you two tied together.â
Georgia took Robertâs hand and sat down next to Astonâs bedside, thought about it, then put Aston to the question directly.
âIâm seeing you because Professor Lee told me to. Actually, before you came back to the country, Emilia had given me a call too. Sheâs worried about you; says that with your personality, if you want to hide away your emotional wounds, you might have drowned yourself completely to your work. Back then, she told me to look after you, but too many things happened on my end and I forgot about it all. You ended up putting yourself in hospital after all.â
âProfessor Lee already told me. Youâre not going back to rest at all and youâre just living in the lab. Tell me, Aston, what will it take? What will it take for you to treat yourself better? Do you have to hurt everyone around you like this? How sad would your mother be if she heard? I know that itâs not that easy to walk out from the shadow of emotional pain, but you canât torture yourself for something like this. You canât hurt the people who care for you.â
As Georgia said that, Aston was quiet for a while, then raised his head and spoke to her.
âIt was just a breakup. She doesnât want me anymore. So Iâm devoting myself to my work instead of lying in bed, still not falling asleep and hurting over this. You experienced the pain of Robert departing once, Georgia. It should have felt even worse. Donât you understand? Sometimes, you canât control yourself. You just want to take it out on something. Iâm still at the phase where I need to take it out on something, so donât bother with me. Iâll get better.â
Astonâs answer clearly just meant he was running away. He wasnât listening to Georgia at all.
It was a self-absorbed way of thinking he could do whatever he wanted.
He was hurting now, so he was the most important, and whatever he did was right.
âIf you donât even love yourself, no one can love you like this, Aston. I thought you were a disciplined person, but your behavior is really disappointing.
You donât know how worried Emilia was when she said all that in the beginning. Itâs like you only care. Itâs like you only care about Kayden, and you donât even want to bother with other peopleâs concern, even thinking itâs a burden.â
Georgia said it a bit directly, and the disappointment in her voice was clear to see.
Astonâs eyes reddened and he sneered.
âDonât lecture me like you know something I donât. Everyone has their moments of sorrow and pain. I just want to work right now, and Iâm not hurting anyone. Why arenât you even giving me that right? All of you buzzing next to my ear like youâre my caretakers and protectors. Do you even know what I want?â
At that, before Georgia could get angry, Robert got angry in her place.

Do you want us to find Kayden, bring her over, and have you beg to be with her?â
At those mocking words, Aston actually got up and smashed the cup next to him to the floor.
âI donât need you to persuade me or lecture me. I know what Iâm doing. Now please leave. You are not welcome.â
