Chapter 11

Rejected Lovers

Chapter Eleven - Green Eyed Monster

"Olivia!" I hear someone call my name as I walk out of the school's entrance.

I had stayed behind after school to work on a group project for science and truth be told I am knackered. Turning, I see Finn from my Math class waving at me. I stop at the steps and smile at him as he makes his way to me. He's a human with light brown hair and green eyes. I find him cute but a certain hazel eyed Alpha has been running circles in my mind. Nobody compares to him.

"Hey!" He grins sheepishly as he fiddles with the strap of his backpack. "There's this new movie out and I wanted to ask if you're free Friday night?"

"As in a date?" I bite my lip nervously because I didn't expect him to say that.

"Yeah!" He laughs breathlessly as he runs a hand through his hair. "Are you busy? We can reschedule?"

"Finn..." I clear my throat uncomfortably and watch his smile falter. "I'm sorry but I'm just not interested."

"Oh." He frowns as he tilts his head to the side. "That's alright."

I blink at him in surprise over how he didn't seem at all affected. Instead he smiles again before asking, "Do you know if Emilia would be free?"

I struggle to not let my jaw drop at his behavior before shaking my head. I hurry down the steps and ignore his calls. When I look up to see where the driver has parked the car I'm pleasantly surprised to see Atticus waiting for me. However, his murderous expression makes me slow down.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" I smile as I reach him.

"Why? Did you have other plans?" He growls lowly as his eyes flicker to the school's entrance. "Not happy to see me?"

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I snap when I realize his mood has turned sour.

"Did you agree to go out on a date with that boy?" He arches a brow and I realize the numerous voices of school students must have distorted our conversation slightly.

"What do you think?"

"You probably said yes immediately." He narrows his eyes at me and his answer makes me scoff.

"Disappointing coming from you, Atticus. You know me." I repeat his words from last night in a mocking tone.

"People grow and change in two years, Olivia." He throws my words back at me and I lose my patience.

"This is so stupid! Why are you behaving like this?!" I shout in the empty yard of the school grounds. "I said no!"

"Well, you spend so much time with Leon and I saw how close you were dancing the other night! And now I see you flirting with this boy so obviously I'd think –"

"Atticus why are you being so overprotective?! You're acting like you're my boyfriend or something –"

"Well, maybe I should be!" He snaps as he invades my personal space and my eyes widen at his words.

We stare at each other in silence and I quickly come to the realization that he's jealous. All those times his mood would switch when I was around Leon was because he was jealous of him. It all makes sense now and I groan at my slow self for not connecting the dots quicker. He pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration and sighs heavily before walking away a few steps.

"Look, when you were drunk the other night you confessed that you never stopped loving me." My eyes widen in shock and I wish the ground would swallow me up.

"I said what?!" I shriek as I feel my cheeks heat in embarrassment.

He opens the mind link between us and shows me his memory of the night I was drunk. I look like a mess that's for sure, I think to myself as I see the state of me. However, I do hear myself confess that I never stopped loving Atticus and when he tries to pass it off as me being drunk I tell him that I'm not lying. But then, I hear myself ask him if he ever stopped loving me and he admits that he didn't.

My jaw drops and I look up at him in surprise. "Y-You feel the same way?"

Great, way to sound like a stammering fool Olivia! I groan mentally when he chuckles in amusement. He walks over to me and wraps his arms around my waist. I'm flush against his body and those damned butterflies are back as they flutter crazily in my tummy.

"I do." He smiles adorably as he stares into my eyes like he can see my soul.

"You didn't have to be an asshole about it!" I snap over his behavior earlier and watch his eyes narrow angrily.

"I don't like it when you spend time with Leon. I don't like it when he and other men look at you and think they have a chance with you like that boy did." He growls gently as his eyes light up with a possessive glint. "I don't like it because it's not me."

"And I don't like being reminded that you belong to Scarlett but I don't get into a mood about it do I?" I retort and he sighs heavily in response.

"Well...we can show her that I only belong to you if you give me a chance?" He drawls with a devilish smirk.

Unwillingly, an amused smile graces my lips over his words. I shake my head as I look down but he bends slightly to meet my eyes. I shove him away with a chuckle but he pulls me back into his arms again. His calming scent washes over me and I sigh blissfully against his chest.

"Can you give us a chance again?" He asks again as he rests his forehead against mine.

I feel a million butterflies flutter crazily in my tummy because I already know the answer. Ever since I reunited with him again my feelings for him have come back stronger than ever and I guess I was telling the truth when I admitted that I never stopped loving him. But then I remember what I said to myself yesterday.

"Why would you want to be with someone like me?" I whisper as I pull away to see him frowning.

"Why do you say that?"

"I don't know..." I shrug halfheartedly before biting my lip. "Don't you deserve someone better? Someone who doesn't have as messy as a past like I do?"

"I deserve you, Olivia." He states confidently as he takes my hands in his. "I know you're it for me. So, what do you say? Will you give us another chance?"

Oh hell, it wouldn't hurt to try again! I think to myself. Maybe fighting myself over developing feelings for him would never have worked. And besides, neither of us have mates so we would eventually have to find someone to settle down with.

"Yes." I breathe and watch him smile handsomely.

"And can I take you out on a date next weekend?" He asks hopefully which makes me laugh.

"Yes."

We grin at each other like love struck fools before he opens the door for me and nods at me to get in. Smiling, I sit in the car and put my seat belt on while watching him round the front and get in. As he starts the car and pulls out of the school grounds I remember his words from earlier that makes me laugh.

"What?" He asks with a confused glance.

"Leon found his mate the night I got drunk." I reveal and chuckle when his eyes widen in surprise. "When you grabbed me, I was telling him to go over to her."

"Oh..." He trails off before glaring at me as I laugh out loud.

I spot the blush creeping up his neck but don't point it out as we drive back home. To be honest I love how jealous he became. And if he hadn't we wouldn't be here right now. I can't believe we're going to give each other a chance again! Could this be fate? I wonder to myself as I look out the window. Did the Moon Goddess play a part in this?

We spend the rest of the drive talking about what we've been up to and the twenty-minute drive seems like it flew by way too fast as he parks outside the house. I grab my backpack and get out before meeting him at the front of the car. However, I didn't expect him to take my hand as we make our way inside.

"I'm just going to change before dinner." I mumble shyly when we walk inside and Arcadia's eyes narrow at our intertwined hands.

"Okay, I'll see you in a bit." He nods before pressing a kiss to my cheek.

I groan under my breath when Elias walks in on it and his jaw drops. And to my horror Atticus smirks at me as he walks past! That devil! I hurry up the stairs and into my room before turning to close my door. But Arcadia forces her way in before slamming it shut. She quietly makes her way to my bed and throws herself on it while I stare at her expectantly.

My confusion on her silence disappears when Emilia bursts into my room. "Are you and Atticus dating?! Is it true? Ugh, I'm so lonely!"

"They were holding hands and...he kissed her cheek!" Arcadia reveals and they both grin wickedly at my blush.

"Well?!" Emilia asks expectantly as she all but bounces on the spot in anticipation.

"Um...well, he did ask me today if I wanted to give us a chance again and I said yes –"

"Yes! Our ships have sailed!" Arcadia screams joyfully before tackling Emilia with a hug.

"Guys!" I whine as they dance around. "It's not a big deal!"

"Shut up! Yes it is!" Emilia smacks my arm before dragging me to the bed and pushing me to sit down. "How did it happen?"

I shift uncomfortably as they stare at me before sighing in defeat. "Atticus was waiting to pick me up after school and you know Finn Tucker? He's in my math class. Anyways, he asked me out on a date and when I said no he asked if you were free."

Emilia's jaw drops while Arcadia bursts into laughter. "What a dick!"

I chuckle with a nod and continue to tell them what happened next. By the end of it they're cooing and squealing in excitement again. Turns out that Emilia, Arcadia, Leon and Elias had a bet going on when Atticus and I would start dating again. I roll my eyes playfully when both groan about how Elias was right about betting on December.

"Why would you bet on us?" I shake my head in amusement.

"Olivia, everyone could see how much you and Atticus liked each other." Emilia deadpans and Arcadia nods in agreement while I die inside of mortification. "There's just something different in the air when you two are together. And I bet it won't be a surprise to anyone to know that you guys are dating again."

"Oh..." I murmur as I realize how oblivious we had been while everybody else knew.

"So, when's the date?" Arcadia asks with a teasing wiggle of her brows.

"Next weekend."

"I can't wait!" Emilia grins happily and her enthusiasm makes me chuckle. "Honestly, I'm so happy for you two. Our Alpha deserves someone like you after what he's been through."

I smile weakly as my eyes meet Arcadia's. She stares back at me with a reassuring glint in her baby blues. I take a deep breath before turning to Emilia. She's become a good friend of mine and was my first friend I made here so she has a right to know.

"Actually, I rejected my mate." I state quietly and watch her eyes widen in response. "My mate was Vincent Ross from the Red River pack in Vancouver. He made me move to his pack under a pretense. I eventually felt him cheating on me and he revealed that he only wanted me around for strong heirs."

"What the fuck?!" She breathes in shock as she glances between Arcadia and I in disbelief. "That's disgusting!"

"Yeah." I nod with a sad smile. "He sent me here to gather information about the rogues that have been attacking packs in Canada. Information that he believed only Atticus knew. But I took this as an opportunity to get myself out of there. And when Atticus found out he encouraged me to reject Vincent and stay here under his protection. But he may attack the pack to get to me."

"Oh goddess, I'm so sorry this happened to you." She hugs me tightly before cursing Vincent to the depths of hell under her breath. "Well, I guess the Moon Goddess brought you two together again after realizing that you both were dealt the wrong cards."

"Atticus and Olivia were always meant to be." Arcadia winks and her words cause Emilia to cheer loudly.

"I guess so." I murmur with a happy smile.
