Chapter 5

Sab pov-

Anna laughed and stood up carrying her chair back to her side of the table. I wished she hadn’t gotten up and had stayed over he- No Sab what are you doing. You can’t be catching feelings already. C’mon, you have to beat Anna.

The waitress came back with our drinks, “Your food will be out in a minute or two.” “Okay, thank you,” I responded. Anna pulled out her phone and started scrolling through Instagram. I just stared at her. She was so pretty with her blue eyes and long blonde hair. She was kind of perfect. “You know if you take a picture it’ll last longer,” she said interrupting my thoughts. “What?” I asked pretending to not have heard what she said. “If you take a picture. It. Will. Last. Longer.” she said again never having looked up from her phone. “Fine, maybe I will,” I responded quickly by pulling out my phone and snapping a picture.

Anna laughed from across the table. They both turned their heads as they saw the waitress coming out with their food. She handed me my steak and Anna her spaghetti. Thank you we both responded. “Hey Anna, I need to put this picture as your contact picture, but I don’t have your phone number,” I said with hope she wouldn’t be difficult. “I will give it to you but there is a price.” Anna said grinning. Oh no.

Anna pov-

Oh my god. Sab asked for my number. I was really excited, but I had to keep it inside. I offer her my number for a price. She had a look of fear in her eyes. “It’s not bad I promise. I just want you to watch Ice Age with me tonight. I have the best Sid the sloth impression.” I made puppy dog eyes hoping she would say yes. “Fine, we can watch Ice Age tonight.” I started pumping my fists in the air with excitement. She smiled as she looked at me. She is so cute.

Wait. Anna you can’t do this. Catching feelings already. You can’t lose this battle this early on. A you know what happened the last time you caught feelings this fast. You can’t repeat what happened with Maria. I snapped out of it and went back to eating.

We finished eating and I insisted on paying. We started walking back to our dorm. Sab looked at me knowing my mood had changed. I didn’t want to look at her because I knew it would remind me of Maria.

Sab pov-

After I agreed to watch Ice Age with Anna her mood changed completely. This wasn’t the Anna that I had been hanging out with for the past couple of hours. I wasn’t sure what I had done wrong. She just stopped talking and looked sad. We finished eating and Anna insisted on paying.

We were walking back to our dorm and I looked at Anna. She stared straight ahead, I know she saw me. She was just ignoring me. I thought I would just give her some space until we got back to our dorm room. We walked in silence. It wasn’t a comfortable silence like I was hoping for. It was awkward, not gonna lie.

We got to our door and Anna walked right to her bed and sat down staring at the floor. I knew something was wrong but I wasn’t sure what it was. I walked over to her and sat on her bed a few feet away from her.

“Is it something I said or did?” I asked. She shook her head no and I saw tears forming in her eyes. I scooted over so I was right next to her. “Do you want to talk about it?” I asked. She shook her head no again as a tear rolled down her face.

“Oh, Anna. Come here.” I pulled her into a hug and she rested her head on my shoulder. She started crying and making my shoulder wet with warm tears.

We sat in each other's embrace for who knows how long, before I pulled Anna farther onto her bed so we were laying down. She laid her head down on my chest and we cuddled up close together until Anna fell asleep. I didn’t want to move her so I just decided it would be best if I just stayed where I was.

Anna pov-

I woke up and felt someone laying underneath me. I turned my head and saw Sab cuddled up with. Why am I here? Last night. I must have fallen asleep crying on her. I decided to just lay there with her until she woke up.

A few minutes there I felt her arm move from where it lay over my shoulder. She looked down at me. “I’m sorry after you fell asleep I should have moved over to my own bed. I’m sorry. I-” “Thank you. I usually try to push my feelings down when the memories come back. I just couldn’t do it anymore. Thank you for being there for me.” She smiled and hugged me. I sat up and got out of bed going into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and my hair.

When I came out of the bathroom Sab walked in after me and I decided to get dressed.

Sab pov-

I got dressed while Anna was in the bathroom and I went in to brush my teeth when she came out. I put my toothbrush away and walked out of the bathroom and saw Anna standing there. Without a shirt on, in her sports bra. She must have felt me staring at her because she turned around and made eye contact with me. My face must have turned bright red, because Anna said, “Hey Miss Tomato. I see you are finally done in the bathroom.” Now that is the Anna I know and recognize. “Hey Anna,” I said trying to sound confident, even though I was completely flustered. I started to walk past her toward my bed.

She grabbed my wrist and spun me around. She grabbed my waist with one hand and the back of my neck with the other. “I thought I told you to call me Daddy,” she whispered confidently, keeping eye contact. I felt her breath on my lips and I felt butterflies in my stomach. I tried to seem just as confident and as she started walking away, I pulled her back to me. “And I thought I told you to call me Sab.” I moved a little closer so our noses touched, “By the way, I’m winning.” With that I walked away and threw Anna a shirt to put on.
