Chapter 16
The Girlboss Begs for Remarriage
It was only then that Helen noticed the camera above her, with a red bulb flickering repeatedly.
Meanwhile, Vicky continued, âTo be honest, I really donât want to give you the Western Project. Itâs therefore a shame that someone doesnât want Lane Holdings to fall apart, and I canât do anything about thatâso come by Turnbull Tower in a couple of days to sign it.â
Helen, however, could not bring herself to celebrate despite being told she had the contract.
Instead, she was snappy as she demanded, âSpying is a bad habit, Ms. Turnbull.â
In the security room, Vicky merely giggled. âI can find out how many times you used the ladiesâ room in a day if I want. Iâll let it go this one time, so watch out if you badmouth me again.â
Beep, beep, beep-
As Helen quietly hung up, Gina asked in confusion, âWho was that?â
âVicky Turnbull.â
Ginaâs eyes promptly lit up. âReally? What did she say?â
âShe told me to sign the contract at Turnbull Tower in two days,â Helen replied exasperatedly. âShe said that someone doesnât want Lane Holdings to fall apart.â
Though the contract was now escured, she felt like she was dancing to Vickyâs tune!
âWonderful!â Gina almost leapt out in excitement and turned toward Sean. âThanks for calling your dad, Mr. Wesley! We wouldnât have gotten the contract so easily otherwise!â
Helen forced a smile too. âThank you for this, Mr. Wesley.â
After all, the person Vicky mentioned had to be Seanâhe had supported her all this way, and who else had what it took to change Vickyâs mind?
âHuhâ¦â
Sean, however, looked utterly perplexedâhe knew full well that it was not his father James, since he did not have that much power to do so.
Still, who cares who actually did it? This was now his accomplishment!
âHaha!â He laughed smugly right then. âItâs really nothing.â
Seeing that he was brazen enough to accept the Lanesâ gratitude, Frank scoffed ruthlessly, âDoes Vicky giving the project to Helen really have anything to do with you?â
Sean flushed right then, and promptly snapped angrily, âShut up! What, are you saying that itâs you?â
Gina certainly agreed with Sean. âMr. Wesley just called his father to speak with the Turnbulls on his behalf. Heâs not like you, all talk and no bite! From where Iâm standing, youâre just jealous!â
âActually, it was me,â Frank replied.
âWhat?â Sean chuckled. âAre you saying that you made Vicky Turnbull change her mind?â
Frank nodded.
Helen stared at him in disbelief, while Sean guffawed. âHaha! Youâre a real riot! Itâs ironic considering that we havenât heard a peep from you for a while!â
Frank said flatly, âExactly. Vicky changed her mind because I kept quiet.â
âOh, just give up already,â Sean snorted in disdain. âYou canât even come up with a good story, so stop tooting your own horn.â
âThatâs enough, Frankâyou should stop.â Helen was frowning too, clearly upset that Frank would lie like that.
If anything, she was further skeptical that Frank could lord over Vicky after seeing Vicky in person- it was simply unrealistic.
