Chapter 12 - Your Brain Just Short-Circuited

Seeing Ma Yingshan’s confused expression, a young nurse stepped forward with a smile to clarify. Ma Yingshan then comprehended what had happened. During the surgery, they removed some excess fat.

“Doctor, removing some fat won’t have any negative effects on her body, right?” Ma Yingshan asked with concern. While rapid weight loss might be satisfying, he was worried about potential side effects.

Lu Ming gestured dismissively, “For your wife, there won’t be any side effects.”

Removing fat tissue during surgery could leave an area with less support, causing it to sag. However, this was more of a concern for individuals who were already quite slim or slightly overweight. For someone like Luo Xiuhong, who was visibly overweight and had a spare tire around her waist, removing some abdominal fat would have no adverse effects. It could even alleviate some strain on her body. When you’re significantly overweight, your legs endure more pressure when you stand and walk. Losing a few pounds could reduce this pressure and benefit the joints.

After listening to Lu Ming’s reassurances and explanations, Ma Yingshan breathed a sigh of relief. At the same time, he felt happy for his wife.

“Take good care of your wife, and the nurses will teach you some basic postnatal care. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask,” Lu Ming advised before leaving.

Lu Ming soon arrived at the inpatient building. There were several patients he was responsible for monitoring.

Upon reaching the floor where his patient was, Lu Ming greeted Nurse Zhou Huihui. Zhou Huihui had recently married and took a wedding leave, even using up her annual leave for a month.

“Dr. Lu, it’s been a while,” Zhou Huihui said, opened the drawer, took out a package of specialties, and handed it to Lu Ming.

“Wow, yak meat? A specialty from Tibet?”

“Did you and your husband go on a honeymoon to Tibet?” Lu Ming asked.

Lu Ming examined the packaging of the specialty product, which appeared to be authentic yak meat.

“Yes, I wanted to go to Tibet for a long time.”

“Unfortunately, the workload for nurses is too heavy, and I couldn’t take leave during regular times.”

“So, while on our honeymoon, we chose Tibet,” Zhou Huihui continued.

Lu Ming opened the packaging, took a bite of yak meat, and said while chewing, “You’re overthinking it. It’s mainly because of the lack of oxygen, causing your brain to malfunction, making you forget many things so you feel happy and lively. It’s commonly known as altitude sickness. If it gets severe, it could be life-threatening.”

Upon hearing Lu Ming’s explanation, Zhou Huihui was left dumbfounded. Her sense of joy vanished in an instant.

“Hahaha! That’s quite amusing! Dr. Lu sees beyond the surface to the core of the matter!” Another nurse nearby couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Zhou Huihui felt even more perplexed. So, her supposed happiness was simply due to her “brain not functioning properly”? It seemed like the term “blissful ignorance” was rather fitting.

“Alright, it’s time for me to do my rounds. This yak meat is pretty good, very tasty,” Lu Ming said before heading off.

Lu Ming stashed the remaining yak meat into his pocket and left with a contented smile.

“Ah! Dr. Lu, you rascal!” Zhou Huihui gritted her teeth, feeling a bit defeated.

Lu Ming had just arrived at the door of another patient’s room when he noticed the patient was preparing to be discharged.

“Dr. Lu,” Qinxue greeted Lu Ming as she saw him.

“Mm.”

“The old woman has recovered quite well. Please remind her not to do the heavy lifting when she gets home,” Lu Ming nodded slightly.

The patient was an old woman named Song Juying, and Qinxue was her granddaughter. Song Juying had injured her back while carrying firewood up the mountain, which had led to her being hospitalized for a week.

“Yes, I’ll keep an eye on her,” Qinxue nodded.

After conducting a brief follow-up examination on Song Juying, Lu Ming allowed her to be discharged. He then went on to check other patients before it was time for his shift to end.

The following day, Lu Ming had just arrived at the emergency department when an ambulance brought in a patient. Lu Ming immediately recognized the patient. It was Song Juying, the woman who had been discharged just yesterday. Her granddaughter, Qinxue, accompanied her.

“Dr. Lu…”

Qinxue, upon seeing Lu Ming, also seemed surprised.

“What’s going on? Wasn’t she discharged just yesterday? Why is she back?” Lu Ming inquired about the situation.

“My grandmother slipped and broke her arm again,” Qinxue said somewhat awkwardly.

“How did she manage to break her arm again?” Lu Ming sighed, realizing this old woman had been through quite a lot recently.

“She was still upset about the hospital expenses from her previous stay, so she didn’t want to turn on the lights at home.”

“As a result, she slipped over a stool and broke her arm,” Qinxue explained.

“She bears the pain all night, thinking it would get better in the morning.”

“I found her in the morning and called an ambulance to bring her to the hospital.”
