Chapter 17
I Adopted A Villainous Dad
Miltiades immediately ran over to Ameliaâs room when he heard that she had woken up. She was supposed to welcome him inside the room, but she wasnât there.
âCan anyone explain whatâs going on?â Miltiadesâs happiness plummeted when he looked at the empty room and recalled her bright smile. It had been a long time since his mood had become this bad. âI had definitely heard my daughter was awake?â
When the knights heard his ice-cold tone, they flinched. âThat⦠uh⦠Your Majestyâ¦â they stuttered. As they saw Miltiades clench his fist and sensed his bloodlust, they uncomfortably glanced at each other.
âWe⦠weâre sorry, Your Majesty. The saintess ranâ¦â
âWe shouldâve blocked her, but we couldnât recognize her. Please spare us!â
Miltiades didnât waste his words. âI donât need incompetent people.â He gestured, and the knightsâ faces went white. Immediately, other knights came in to take away the knights in the room.
Callian, who had rushed after Miltiades, arrived now and tilted his head at the knights. âYour Majesty, theyâ¦â
âTheyâre useless.â To Miltiades, they were nothing. It was more important to find where Amelia was. âWhere did she run off to as soon as she woke up? Dragging her unhealthy body around.â âMy daughter has disappeared. Find her now.â
âAh, I was late because I was going to talk to you about this,â Callian said, and Miltiades turned to him, âYour Majesty, I heard that the saintess is at the western annex.â
Miltiades stopped walking. He didnât know what was at the western annex. âWhy is she over there?â
âThatâ¦â Callian carefully spoke as he saw Miltiadesâs eyebrows furrow. âThe child is at the western annex. The one the saintess saved.â
Miltiadesâs gaze changed. The atmosphere around him changed, and Callian couldnât hide the nervousness in his heart. He followed the cold-hearted Miltiades, hoping nothing would happen.

Kais looked at Harel.
To be precise, he looked at the priests who were hanging around and saying that they were looking over Harelâs condition.
âIs this the child?â
âYes, yes. Heâs the one the saintess saved with resurrection magic.â
âOh, how amazing⦠Isnât resurrection magic difficult even for the Pope?â
âYou said she was six years old?â
âTo think a child so young can already use high-level magic.â
âHis heart rate and breathing are all normal.â
âI heard he was close to death, so isnât this pretty much reviving someone from the dead?â
The priests had said they were looking over Harelâs condition, but they were only observing his body. Kais pushed down the urge to kick them all out and recalled when he had seen his younger brother encased in light. âHe was alive.â Kais knew how many people had died in that room. Countless people had never returned.
âThis wouldâve been impossible if she werenât the saintess.â
âBeing able to see this miracle is making me emotional.â
âIâm surprised that thereâs still this much divine power inside him.â
The priests continued to look at Harelâs condition in shock. However, in reality, they were only fawning over the âSaintess.â
Kais found out something while listening to the conversation. âThat kid really is a Saintess.â He had heard that she was, but he hadnât believed it. Moreover, there was a huge gap between what he had heard of and what he had seen.
Kais made a face. âI still need to thank her. She saved Harel.â He didnât think he would see her again, but he knew he needed to thank that kid, the saintess. Right when he decided to do itâ

Creak!
The door opened, and a small girl came in.
ââ¦â Kais became confused when he made eye contact with those red eyes. âWhy is she here?â
âSaintess!â
As if she couldnât hear the voice behind her, Amelia ran inside and looked over at Harel. She was clad in a thin dress and was barefoot. With her pale white face on top of that, anyone could tell that she was in a worse condition than Harel.
Kais didnât understand. âWhy is she doing all this?â He felt an unknown emotion creep up as Amelia looked over Harel.
Amelia observed Harel more carefully than the priests, and only then did she finally calmed down. A bright smile made its way to her lips, but she suddenly stumbled. âAh!â
Kais thought that Amelia was going to fall, and by the time he realized it, he was holding her. His body had reacted first.
ââ¦!â Ameliaâs red eyes widened in shock as she looked at Kais.
Kais didnât know how to react when she said that she couldnât wait to see him in ten years. Then, he instinctively looked up as he felt a thick bloodlust in the air. He didnât know when this man had appeared, but Miltiades was standing there.
Miltiades looked at Kais with his cold, golden eyes and immediately picked Amelia up into his arms as if he were protecting her.
âThis manâ¦â Kais thought that Miltiades was doing things that didnât suit him. The man who could destroy anything he wanted to if he put his mind to it was carefully carrying Amelia; it didnât suit him at all.
Miltiades glared at Kais as if he knew what the latter was thinking. âI still donât like this kid.â The one thing he hated more was that his arrogant child took care of this kid too much. âShould I just kill him?â
Just as the nervous energy in the air was about to explodeâ¦
âHuh?â Amelia tilted her head, and all the bloodlust instantly disappeared. She then looked at Miltiades and smiled. âHi, Daddy!â Her smile was warm enough to melt the winter snow, and it broke through the cold atmosphere in the room. Miltiades was still expressionless, but Amelia didnât give up. âHow can a human even look like this? Itâs not possible. Are you an angel, Dad?â
ââ¦â
âDad, when did you become so handsome? From the moment you were born?â
ââ¦â
Amelia suddenly started sniffling. âThe universe has to apologize to you. It didnât give you everything in it.â
âHow can she say that in this situation?â Miltiades laughed.
âUgh. Youâre blinding me.â Ameliaâs heart raced when she saw Miltiadesâs smile.
âSaintess,â Luciana called Amelia to stop her, but it was no use.
âTo think the universe doesnât know about my dad, I feel so bad for it!â
Luciana tried to comfort Amelia and sighed as if she was used to dealing with this. âYour Majesty, the saintess overused her body and sheâs weak. She needs to hurry and rest.â
ââ¦Take her.â Miltiades didnât feel like it, but he put Amelia down.
Amelia turned around to smile at him. âDaddy! Iâll see you later!â
Miltiades lightly nodded. Amelia looked at Harel one last time, then turned to Luciana with a worried expression. âHarel needs to get better soon. Do you understand?â
âYes, Iâll look over him well.â
âGood job, good job. Youâre doing well, Luci!â
âThis little kid is hurt more! Why is she worried about others?â They couldnât understand her. While they were watching her, Amelia started walking but suddenly stumbled.
ââ¦!â
ââ¦?â
Miltiades and Kais responded at the same time. They looked at each other and immediately pretended not to notice. âAt least he wonât hurt her.â
Amelia barely kept her balance and grinned. Luciana called for her with a sad expression, âSaintessâ¦â
âIâm fine!â Amelia smiled and reassured them, but no one believed her.
Lucianaâs face darkened. Farther away from them, Callian balled his fist with a pitiful expression. Right when Amelia was about to take another step, she felt herself lift in the air, âHuh?â She looked behind as she dangled in the air.
Miltiades had held her small body again. âIâll take you.â He naturally picked her up.
Ameliaâs face brightened with that one phrase. âOkay!â
The warmth Miltiades felt from her small, round arm was unfamiliar but nice. He smiled at the ticklish feeling and started moving with the child in his arms.
As he walked past them, all the knights froze in place. âThe emperor of Rahel is holding a child?â
Lepolius, the Lord of Yurigen, who had belatedly heard that the saintess woke up, also saw this scene and froze. âThat⦠thatâsâ¦â He didnât even think about how rude he was being as he pointed at them. âWhat did I just witness? His⦠His Majestyâ¦â
Lepolius then asked his retainer, âAm I⦠dreaming right now?â
His retainer pinched his cheek and responded, âMy Lord, you arenât..â
