Chapter 58-Roman
Alpha's Fallen Angel
I just showed the last group of the Fae warriors to their temporary housing, and Iâm starving. I get out my phone to order food when I see Amara texted me twelve minutes ago.
Amara: Heading to Blairâs to get more tea. I need you to come home as soon as youâre done with the Fae.
Roman: Be careful. I just finished up. Iâll head over now. Is everything OK? Love you
I wonder if she finally went and saw a pack doctor; Iâve been worried sick about how unwell sheâs felt. Itâs beyond anxiety at this point. Thereâs something wrong with her. Adonis is equally concerned, begging me to take her to a doctor.
â²Something is wrong. Mindlink border patrol, I can feel something isnât right,â² Adonis snarls in my head. Iâm about to do just that when I feel Amaraâs link open up.
âROMAN,â Amara screams, and instantly panic surges through me. I shift into Adonis, starting to run in the direction the bond was pulling me to, and then the bond goes blank.
âAmara? AMARAâ I yell but canât form the link with her. Then the alarms start blaring.
âAlpha! Vampires on the West border!â Mayra, one of my warriors, alerts me.
Shit, shit, shit. The west border is right by Blairâs cottage. I send out a pack mindlink telling all the warriors to get over that way and to look for their Luna. Iâm already sprinting over there. Why canât I feel the bond? Itâs not even like sheâs asleep; it justâ¦went away.
âHow many?â I growl back
âRoughly a hundred,â she says back. Thatâs not good; that means they were only sent as a distraction.
âAlpha! The Luna!â another warrior, Blake, yells at me through the link. On instinct, I run even faster, adrenaline and pure fucking fear for my mate propelling me forward.
âWhat about my Luna?â I snarl through the link.
âHead towards Ms. Blairâs cottage, youâll see usâ¦the Lunaâ¦â he hesitates.
âWHAT ABOUT MY LUNA?â I boom back
âShe was taken! We tried to get to them, but he stabbed her in the neck with a syringe, and they just disappeared,â he spits out.
My blood runs cold. Adonis lets out a howl, full of rage. Fuck what am I doing? I skid to a stop and portal myself to Blairâs cottage, where I see a small group of my warriors, probably about 300 yards away. I shift back and portal over to them.
âWhat the fuck happened?â I yell as I materialize in front of Blake and Luke. They jump, looking at me with wide eyes before Luke answers.
âWe heard growling, so we ran over here and saw a man we didnât recognize grab the Luna and stab her in the neck with a syringe, and they just disappeared into thin air. Hereâs the syringe,â he says, handing it to me. I growl
âGet to the western border and neutralize this vampire attack. NOW. Then no one sleeps until we find her.â I say.
I look down at the syringe and pop out the plunger to try and smell whatâs inside. Belladonna, wolfsbane, devilsbane, and a few other scents I donât recognize. I know exactly what this is, and itâs also the answer to why I canât feel the bond. Fur grows along my arms as I fight the shift. No, not now. I have to get to her family.
I portal back to the packhouse and follow Aylin and Armarosâ scents which lead out the door. Growling, I burst through the doors, but they arenât outside either.
âDoes anyone have eyes on Luna Amaraâs family?â I yell through the link
âOn the western border with us,â Seth responds.
âWell, at least theyâll all be in one place for me to tell them how I failed their daughter and sister,â I mutter to myself as I portal there. Black blood covers the grass, and it looks like the threat was already neutralized. I spot them, along with Aston, Seth, and Violet. I walk up to where theyâre standing, grabbing a pair of gym shorts someone hands me along the way.
âThey took her,â is all I say. The color drains from everyoneâs face, even Aylinâs. She and Armaros exchange a look.
âWhat?â I growl at them. Both look uneasy, which is a new fucking sight to see. Aylin puts a hand over her throat and swallows. She looks like sheâs going to fucking pass out.
âThis canâtâ¦no, not now, this canât be happening,â she mutters. She staggers for a second before Azrael steadies her.
âAylin? What? Iâve never seen you like this,â he says
âSheâs pregnant,â she whispers.
âWHAT?â Seth yells
All thoughts leave my mind before it sinks in. Fuck. It makes so much sense. Her nausea, how tired sheâs beenâ¦and they have her. My mate. My pregnant mate. My pregnant mate has been captured. I start to shake as fury and fear that Iâve never known overcome me. I donât fight the shift this time, Adonis coming forward and snarling viciously as he takes over.
He runs back to where the warriors saw Amara, sniffing all around. We finally catch a scent other than hers; I donât recognize it, though. I know itâs a demonâs scent, but thatâs it. Which makes fucking sense, given that he portaled her away. Adonis runs around, sniffing for anything that might lead us to her.
âItâs useless. If they portaled away, there wouldnât be a scent. We have to get back to the packhouse, where we might actually be able to do something.â I tell him
He growls, his helplessness and anger mixing with mine, but he shifts back. I walk over to a tree, knowing itâs one of the trees where we keep extra pants and shirts. I pull on a pair of sweats and portal back to my office.
Not surprisingly, everyone else is there waiting for me. Aylin, Violet, and Gemma sit in my chairs while Azrael, Max, Armaros, Seth, and Aston stand. Seth and Armaros are pacing. A heavy silence fills the room. Aylin looks up at me suddenly.
âI think she had her phone on her,â she screeches.
I immediately lunged for my laptop, opening the âFind My iPhoneâ app. Hope blooms when I see her phone is still on and it has her location. It looks like sheâs somewhere in uncharted territory, as expected. Itâs roughly 45 minutes away. I put the coordinates into google maps, which shows a picture of an old warehouse. I turn the laptop for everyone else to see, and they all nod.
âGet your best warriors here, and we portal them there ASAP. Before they realize she has her phone on her and move her.â Aylin commands. I immediately link everyone, telling them to get to the packhouse. Weâll take the first ones who get there.
âThere were no casualties, only a couple minor injuries that would be healed by now, so everyone should be available,â Seth says. We all nod in response.
âThis is probably the vampiresâ base camp. We donât know what weapons or beasts they have there, but we must be quick.â I say as I get up and walk outside.
The warriors are already crowding the front of the packhouse. I wait anxiously. If I could, I would take whoever was here now and just go, but given that there are probably around five thousand there, I need to have an actual army.
âSeth and Azrael, while we wait, portal there and sniff it out. See if you can find any doors or hideouts or if vamps are guarding the place. Be careful and remain hidden,â I tell them. Az nods before he grabs Sethâs arm, and they both disappear.
It takes about another 15 minutes before enough warriors show up. I quickly brief them on the situation since weâre still waiting on Azrael and Seth. Iâm about to just say fuck it, take them all there, and swarm the place. As soon as I move to do just that, Az and Seth reappear next to Aston, who jumps back, knocking into Armaros.
âFUCKING SHIT. Not cool!â he yells.
âThere are several doors. From what we can tell, all the ones in the front are guarded, but there are two on the side that look unguarded. Hereâs a picture of the door and the trees youâll want to portal to.â Azrael shows me.
âAlright. You guys will portal all my warriors out front, and you ambush them. I will portal myself and Seth to that back door, and we sneak in that way. Aston, leave two important-looking ones alive, and they come here.â I tell them before I turn to all my warriors, âEveryone! Grab onto each other. Queen Aylin, King Armaros, and Prince Azrael will transport you all. You ambush them, kill whoever you can, and spare no one. If you lay eyes on your Luna, go for her.â I yell
Iâm met with a mass response of âYes, Alpha.â
I immediately grab Seth and portal us to the trees Az showed me.
âWait a minute, we need them to be distracted,â I tell him.
I donât take my eyes off the door, looking for any hint of life behind it. It takes about two minutes before we hear snarls, yells of alarm, and a battle breakout. Seth and I run for the back door and throw it open.
Hold on, baby, Iâm coming.
