Chapter 39-Roman
Alpha's Fallen Angel
Thereâs a second of awkward silence as Amara exits the room. I refrain from letting out a sigh, trying to maintain my mask of indifference. I know sheâs going to try and forget her problems by sleeping, but we have to face this head on. Iâll talk to her. Hopefully Sophie will help too. I donât really know what to say to make it better, my mate she may be but I still have a lot to learn about her.
âForgive her, sheâs overwhelmed easily by all this, as Iâm sure you can imagineâ I tell Thayer
âOf course. It would certainly be a shock to me if I woke up one day and found out all this information. Iâll have one of my men transport my books to you as soon as I arrive home. We will be leaving later tonight so expect them tomorrow morning.â Thayer says, getting out of his seat.
I simply nod as he lets himself out, finally allowing that heavy sigh out. We have quite a long road ahead of us it seems. I look at Cici, Violet, and Serena who are all looking at me expectantly, so I fill them in, including my own secret as well. By the end, not even Violet is able to mask her shock. Again, thereâs a few moments of silence while they digest everything.
âWell, at least we seem to be heading in the right direction. If it comes to outright war, the Fae being on our side is a huge advantage, and hopefully thereâs something in those books to help the Luna.â Violet says finally
âWhat we need is her father. I was hoping heâd be here shortly after her powers unlocked. I donât know how to help her, I can only help her with her demon side. I know nothing of angel training, and frankly, I donât even know if her magic will present the same way. The powers weâve tapped into, theyâre similar to mine, although a little stronger, but thereâs too much we donât know. At this point, if weâre going to train her, which it sounds like we need to do ASAP, our only hope at not going in blind is her father.â I say
âHe will come brother, heâs got an entire underworld kingdom to get under control before he leaves. We will do whatever it is we have to do, but I believe he will come. He didnât go to all that trouble just to say âeh fuck itâ and abandon her. I think the more pressing issue here is getting Luna to accept it. Is she ok?â Aston says
âSheâs having a hard time with it. I tried to feel her emotions today to see where sheâs at with it, but all I got was anger and despair. I think she was in a rough enough place before this all came to light, but then this just shattered her.â
âWhat did she say about it when you guys were at momâs house?â Violet asks me
âWe didnât really talk about it, outside of occasionally training her demon powers I didnât even bring it up. I just wanted her to have a break.â
âYou idiot! You had all that time, and you didnât talk about it?! No wonder she made no progress since I last saw her. I knew something was wrong, I knew it. She was completely shut down, and I just watched her shut down again. She needs to talk, not avoid. Fucking men. This is why Iâm gay!â Violet yells at me
I guess sheâs right, I just wanted her to enjoy our week off, I didnât really think about anything other than making her forgetâ¦fuck I am an idiot.
âYouâre just as new to this as I am. I didnât think of it either. Itâs not an unfixable mistake. Weâll just have her talk about it to us now.â Adonis says in my head.
Fair enough, I guess. Iâm suddenly even more grateful Sophie was able to come. Iâll go up to her room with her, see how she gets Amara out of her slumps. I know it was her who got Amara out of the initial slump. Iâll just have to take notes. Yes, thatâll work.
âI had her friend from her previous pack come up here today, sheâs on her way now. Theyâve been friends since they were pups. Sheâll be able to helpâ I say, and Violet scoffs
âShe needs her mate to help her too. Donât you remember how inconsolable you were when mom died? Neither of us could help you. You fought that darkness alone, and you havenât been the same since. I havenât seen you happy until Amara came around. Mates help heal each other, you canât-â
âViolet, I know! Iâm not pushing it off to her friend, Iâm simply saying Iâll observe how she does it. Amara and I are still new mates, same as you and your mate. I have shit to learn about her yet!â I snap at her and she purses her lips. I look to the other girls in the room, who have been quiet and not said a peep since they came in. Cici looks back at me and swallows before speaking
âI donât know Amara well, but sheâs strong. I know that much. If thereâs anyone worthy of this title itâs her. She came here, and just started turning into the person she always wanted to be. This got dropped on her before she could even accomplish that. Be firm with her, push her. Sheâs not weak, this just overwhelmed her, she probably doesnât understand it, and thatâs even more frustrating for her. Donât let her keep escaping the situation.â she finally says
I nodded, and dismissed them. I can already feel the makings of a headache coming on. Seriously, Iâve been home less than two hours and I already need a drink. I decide to let Amara cool off and dive into some paperwork, but Iâm not even 15 minutes in when I receive word that Sophie is here. I walk out to the front of the packhouse to meet her. When I get outside, I see her walking up to the packhouse entrance and she beams at me.
âSo youâre the terrifying legendary Alpha Roman? You donât look so scary in person. Well, maybe thatâs just because of all the stories Amara told me about you.â she says sizing me up. Well, sheâs certainly not shy. I raise a brow at her
âYouâre just as spunky as Amara described you as. Come. Amara is upstairs sleeping. Sheâs a little â¦-â I start to say before she chimes in
âAh, she always sleeps when sheâs in a mood. Show me where she is, is she expecting me?â
âNo, I wanted to keep it a surprise.â I say flatly, and I lead her upstairs to our room.
The entire way she does all the talking, by Selene this woman can talk. Even if I wanted to respond, I wouldnât have been able to get more than a few words in. She comments on the packhouse, her and Amaraâs childhood, asks where Amaraâs cat is but doesnât give me a chance to answer before sheâs commenting on the training session she can see through the window. It takes me less than 5 minutes to walk her to our room, but I feel like Iâve just had an hourâs worth of conversation that I didnât even get to participate in. Her and Violet will definitely get along
âHereâs our room.â I say as I open the door. She doesnât waste a second before she runs in, yelling
âWake up grumpy pants!â and I hear Amara groan.
I know I said Iâd hang out with them, but I have to get away from the energizer bunny before my head explodes. I shut the door, and walk back down to my office, deciding to get some paperwork done before I take over on the next round of training.
