Chapter 37-Roman
Alpha's Fallen Angel
We spent 8 days at the cottage, the extra day happening after Amara used her tears and a couple other parts of her to convince me to stay. But unfortunately, we have to get back to regular life. Aston, of course, whined like a little baby whenever I told him we were staying one more day. We spent pretty much the entire 8 days having sex, and occasionally Amara would train. She actually would execute anything I had her do perfectly, so in reality we could have dived a little deeper into the training, if we hadnât gotten distracted. Yeah, we might have ended up fucking in the backyard a couple times. Now, after the run back, weâre just walking into the packhouse
âIâm gonna go find Violet! Iâll stop by your office after.â Amara says to me and kisses me quickly before running off. Ok then, I guess she isnât too upset about coming home. I chuckle and walk into my office.
My eyes nearly jump out of my head when I see the pile of paperwork sitting on my desk. Fucking Aston! Did he do any paperwork at all? By Selen, Iâm going to murder him. Immediately, my smile reverts to its usual scowl. Right behind said pile, is none other than Aston himself, beaming at me with a face full of mischief.
âCare to explain why the fuck theres all this paperwork on my desk?â I growl
âWhat? I have it organized for you so that way when you do it, you donât have to dig!â he says smugly
I simply just growl at him, again. I guess Iâll be diving balls deep back into work after having such a wonderful week off. When I walk up to him, I push him out of my way and grab the first stack my hands touch, finding it completely finished. I glare back at Aston
âYouâre such a dick you know that?â I tell him
âMaybe, but itâs oh so fun to see you throw a temper tantrum over some paperwork. Donât worry, save for that small pile over there that I came into this morning, itâs all done.â he says
âIâll get you back for that. But first, fill me in on what I missedâ I say scrubbing a hand down my face. It felt like time paused when me and Amara were away. I think there were even moments when we both forgot about the reality of Amaraâs- or rather, our-situation completely. Now that Iâm back here, reality has just come crashing in.
âWell first off, the land in the forest got fixed without a hitch. The fae dude, Thayer or some shit like that wanted to talk to you. They never went home, which Paloma was ecstatic about by the way. The new border patrol is up, courtesy of Max. Still nothing on the vampires, and no evidence that Lunaâs father is looking for her either.â Aston says, turning serious.
âLetâs get some scouts out to Blood Moon. I want their borders and the area around their pack heavily watched. If the vampires are going to attack, itâll be there. If they could have snatched Amara up when she was alone, weak, and vulnerable in the woods coming here, they would have.â I say
âSending scouts out there can be risky. Whoâs to say they wonât be made by the vampires? That would lead them right back here, and then they know right away that we know.â Aston says, not challenging, but questioning.
âI think itâs a necessary risk. We could have some witches do a cloaking spell on them. We need to spin their lack of knowledge on her to our advantage as much as possible. If they think sheâs still there, then theyâll probably bring their best game to that battle. If her birth was so powerful it was felt across the realms, whoâs to say her coming into her powers wasnât?â I say
âThe cloaking spell could work, we should also see if they can shield us from the vampire glamor.â he says, looking thoughtful âFae magic could shield usâ¦I donât know what Thayer wants, but when he saw the damage, he was wide eyed and pale. Him and his daughter fixed it up easily enough, but he didnât ask any questions. Not one. You know how those sneaky ass Fae can be.â Aston says, crossing his arms and muttering something about bitch ass fae and their pranks. I smirk, Aston got drunk with some fae once and ended up naked on a rooftop in the Razor Tail Pack.
âBring the sneaky Fae in thenâ
âWipe that smirk off your whore face and shut the fuck upâ Aston says, noticing my smirk âAnyways, Iâll have the guards grab Thayer. But just be careful, heâs a High Fae and might even be a Lord. But regardless, heâs powerful.â
I nod thoughtfully at this, when I met Dahliaâs mate the few times I did, I did notice the power rolling off him. I never bothered to ask, which may seem careless as an alpha, but I never got any sense of ill-will from him. I also know Dahlia personally, we were good friends growing up, and sheâs a good person. I can count on one hand how many outsiders I let in and out of my pack and theyâre part of them.
Iâm still thinking when Amara comes in, my sisters and Cici in tow. Theyâre all laughing, and when I hear Amaraâs laugh I let out a sigh of relief, thankful reality hasnât hit her the same way it hit me being home.
âHello, mate.â I purr as she walks up to me and I pull her into my lap, kissing her shoulder as she giggles
âHello, Alpha. How Iâve missed you.â she says, her green eyes twinkling âme and the girls are going to hit the shops in the territory. Given that Violet is here, expect me back after youâre already in bed since sheâll have to stop and talk to every single person there.â
âI can hear you, you know!â Violet huffs
âYou were meant toâ Amara shoots back, getting off my lap and pulling me in for a kiss. I get up with her and walk over to the other side of my desk, hugging my sisters.
âWell, I have a surprise for you, so why donât you wait another hourâ I say back to my mate.
Indeed I did have a surprise for her, fearing that sheâll go back into a dark hole when we got home, I stole her friend Sophieâs number from her phone and contacted her. She was more than willing to come see Amara. A couple omegaâs and warriors are on their way with her this second.
âOh?â she says
Sheâs about to say something else when the door opens and Thayer walks in with Dahlia. Immediately Dahliaâs eyes find mine and they light up. Ah fuck.
âRoman! Itâs been too long!â Dahlia says running up to me and hugging me. As expected, sheâs met with a feral growl from Amara, who I can guarantee is fighting to hold back her black misty eyes, giving her away.
âGet. Your. Hands. Off. My. Mateâ Amara says, calmly. Too calm.
Dahliaâs face pales, and she turns around, throwing her hands up. Shit, I never even spoke to Amara about Dahlia, with the mate bond still new, her possessive instincts of her mate will still be on high alert. Seeing a female she doesnât know, who Iâve never spoken about, touching me would send off red flags.
âWho are you?â Amara growls
âMy name is Dahlia, Iâm just an old friend, nothing more! Iâm sorry, I didnât know Alpha Roman was mated. My mate is right behind you, weâre just old friendsâ
Amara instantly blushes and takes a couple deep breaths before letting out a small, embarrassed chuckle.
âSorry, I donât know what came over meâ¦Iâm Amara, Iâm new to this pack. Roman and I just found out we were mates.â she says to Dahlia
âIâm Dahlia, I used to be a part of this pack. I left when I found my mate, me and Roman grew up together. Iâm sorry again for being so thoughtless.â
âNo, no. I shouldnât have reacted so harshly-â
âItâs your instinct! When I met my mate, I nearly ripped his own sisterâs head off for touching his shoulder. Itâs normal, donât worry about it!â Dahlia interrupts Amara, who laughs nervously again, before she looks behind her at a deathly pale Thayer.
âMother of Mimir, itâs trueâ Thayer whispers, so softly that if it werenât for our heightened senses, we wouldnât have heard it.
Instantly, I pull Amara into my arms and Aston steps in front of her, simultaneously putting Cici on his other side behind him. The women in the room look nothing short of confused, while Thayer takes a step back. I size the male in front of me up. Indeed, he radiates power and heâs not just a High Fae, but heâs certainly a Lord. I canât say Iâm surprised, Dahlia is a strong witch, so thereâs no doubt she would have a strong mate.
âI mean no harm, Alpha Roman. I came to speak to you about the damage we repairedâ¦but I did not expect to meet the tribrid here.â Thayer says
âThe what? What shit is your crazy fae ass on?â Violet growls at Thayer, which is immediately answered by a warning growl from Dahlia
I speak up, taking control of the conversation before this gets ugly.
âEveryone, quiet. Thayer, what do you know of the tribrid?â I say with deathly calm, stepping slightly in front of Amara just incase he decides to pull some shit.
âRoman. What the fuck are you talki-â Violet says but I cut her off
âViolet. Enough. I promise I will fill you in later. Just please, stay silent for now.â I say via mindlink, and sheâs instantly quiet.
Probably because she can see my mask of indifference and the power I now allowed to radiate off me. I motion for the guards who escorted Thayer to leave. They comply, and shut the door behind them.
âThere are many legends on the tribrid, Alpha Roman, especially in the Fae literature. Thatâs actually why I came to speak to you, when I healed your land⦠the power I felt behind the destructionâ¦â he trails off for a second before picking back up, now speaking confidently âThat power wasâ¦noticeable. It makes perfect sense now. I take it she is to remain hidden?â
âYes.â I say coldly, but also in warning
âGood. Alpha Roman, I donât know what you know of Fae prophecies, but we have an otherworldly sense. Your mateâ¦she is sought after. Not by Fae, no. by vampires. The Fae value peace and serenity above all else, and the tribridâ¦sheâs been long awaited. There is literature from centuries ago speaking of her reign. It is foretold that when she comes into power, there will be great destruction, not by her, but by those who seek her power. She is by all means, the queen of the Earth realm.â he says calmly
I pause for a moment, digesting what he says. Amara is pale, CiCi and my sisterâs mouths are hanging open, and Dahlia is wide eyed-stepping back with her hands over her throat-while Aston has the same mask of stone I have on. I donât say anything, sizing up the powerful Fae before me, honing in my senses on him.
âAnd why are you so willingly divulging this information?â I say
âAs I said, we Fae have an otherworldly sense. We also believe in the literature written by the messengers of the Gods and Goddesses themselves. The tribrid was said to be a benevolent being. Meaning no harm, but with the power to end the Earth realm as we know it. Not only that, but she is said to bring peace to the Fae. Us and the vampires have been at odds for many, many years. A few invitations on one another here and there, but not outright war, not yet. But there will be, and your mate will be the one who settles that. Please, letâs discuss this. The Fae literature and foretellings are unmatched through any other species. Even the demonsâ he says to me, calmly and politely, but with enough of a bite that I know he knows what I am.
I continue to size him up, and weigh his words. I sense nothing but truth from him, I look into my mind, making sure my mental shields are up, and when I find them untouched, I meet his eyes.
âHave a seat then. Letâs discuss what you knowâ I say coldly to Thayer.
