After Cheng Xi married Lu Chenzhou, she spent the next three years in Gansu, where her illustrious career truly started taking off. When she was reassigned back to Renyi, she published her paper âNovel Treatment Procedures in Psychiatric Care,â which was based on the three yearsâ experience she had accumulated treating these illnesses in Gansu. The paper provided new modes of thinking and treatment plans for many long-standing difficult mental illnesses.
Her paper was actually published in Nature, one of the most well-known science journals in the West.
With this success, Cheng Xiâs name started circulating within the world of psychiatry. At the same time, because of the success of her work in Gansu, she aroused the attention and curiosity of psychiatrists worldwide. As her organization expanded both in size, influence, and scope, more and more people and other, smaller organizations flocked toward it.
Of course, the latter didnât have much to do with Cheng Xi anymore. Ever since Ceng Xing had gone to Gansu, Cheng Xi had given him all of the liaison and administrative tasks. Thus, unlike Cheng Xi, who focused wholeheartedly on medical treatment and research, Ceng Xing spent the majority of his time on administrative tasksâand the results showed that he was far better as an administrator than a psychiatrist.
In the end, he also found a career path that was suitable for him.
And in order to better manage this burgeoning organization, Ceng Xing transferred to Lanzhou General Hospital shortly after arriving in Gansu. It was at Lanzhou that he met his true love.
His marriage took place a year before Cheng Xi left Gansu, and by the time Cheng Xi finally did leave, he had already had a child who was almost a hundred days old; his relationship had progressed very rapidly.
On the day that Cheng Xi left, the weather was good, and Ceng Xing had brought his wife and child to see her off. When he saw Lu Chenzhou and Chen Jiaman by Cheng Xiâs side, he intentionally teased, âMr. Lu, this is the goddaughter that Cheng Xi claimed on your behalf. Arenât you going to hug her?â
As expected, Mr. Luâs face turned ashen.
Once again, Cheng Xi had made him a âfatherâ without asking for his permission or agreementâa godfather was still a father!
But what upset him even more was the fact that the man in front of him had been in such low spirits when he and Cheng Xi had gotten married. And now, he seemed to be a completely new person...... When Lu Chenzhou thought about it, he really was somewhat of a failure. Over the last three years, he visited Gansu about once a month on average, and depending on Cheng Xiâs ovulation period, stayed around ten days per visit each time. Unfortunately, although he had strived to sow his seed with great effort, the field remained barren even after three years!
Even Baldy had become a father by now, and he constantly bragged to Lu Chenzhou, âMy sonâs going to be born any day now! Whereâs your daughter and my future daughter-in-law?â
Mr. Lu didnât like sons, and he had always wanted a cute and gentle daughter like Cheng Xi. But before Cheng Xi could give birth to a daughter, Ceng Xing had come along with a supposed âgoddaughterâ for him. Unfortunately for Lu Chenzhou, Cheng Xi evidently liked this little baby girl very much. When Lu Chenzhou shied away from the baby, she smiled, received the baby from Ceng Xing, and held her lovingly as she said to Chen Jiaman, âLook, your sisterâs cute, isnât she? Feel her handsâmy goodness, theyâre so soft. Ah, she scratched me~ Sheâs quite strong.â
Cheng Xi cradled the baby for the entire trip to the airport, not complaining at all.
Lu Chenzhou was unhappy, and when they finally boarded the plane, he flipped her around to face him. âWhy are you so enthusiastic about embracing someone else?â
â......That was a three-month-old baby......â
Lu Chenzhou stared at her until Cheng Xi couldnât stand it anymore. She preemptively hugged him of her own accord and then, in a particularly mushy fashion, said, âAlright, alright. It was my mistake. I shouldnât have hugged anyone else. Youâre also my baby, and Iâll only hug you.â
Mr. Lu rested his head on her knees, only feeling content after she cradled him for the entire flight.
With Lu Chenzhou around, Chen Jiaman was normally particularly obedient. However, on this flight, she couldnât help herself from flinging a few supercilious glances at Lu Chenzhou before secretly whispering to Cheng Xi, âDadâs really childish.â
Cheng Xi laughed. âItâs alright. I donât mind.â
After all, the reason why Lu Chenzhou could act so childish in front of her was because he trusted her. He had never shirked any of his responsibilities, not even Donglai. After their honeymoon, he had stormed back into the company through a forceful takeover, publicly admitted the problem with their vaccine, acknowledged the misdeeds committed by Donglaiâs management, and then publicly apologized while also promising to compensate all of the children and families that had been affected by the incident. Then, Lu Chenzhou began a thorough audit of the company, including all of their current products. This entire process was made transparent to the public, and he even recruited unbiased volunteers for the audit.
And lastly, Donglai had to accept the huge fine levied by the governmentâthough, the only reason why they were able to get away with just a fine was because the problem hadnât been very widespread. Otherwise, just a fine would be nowhere near enough.
This series of actions finally brought Donglai some breathing room, but it almost bankrupted the company in the process.
In the end, it was Cai Yi who saved Donglai. Her research had been prospering after her breakthrough, and her announcement that she was collaborating with Donglai to develop new medication to curb depression breathed new life into the company.
In the three years after the scandal, Donglai steadily recovered and rebuilt itself. Although it couldnât quite reach its previous peak performance, its reputation soared within the industry as the company had pared down its nonessential ventures and streamlined its workflow, essentially transitioning into a specialized manufacturing company.
Lu Chenzhou fell asleep in the beginning of the flight. When he woke up, he saw Cheng Xi browsing through some of Donglaiâs documents. He sat up a little straighter and hugged her. âWhyâre you looking at this?â
She smiled at him. âOf course itâs because I want to know what youâve been doing all these years. And I donât want to hear about how wonderful and talented you are from someone else.â
Lu Chenzhou took the tablet from her as he kissed her lips. âI can tell you all of those things myself.â He kissed her again before saying, âCheng Xi, I know that I donât like to talk, but in the future, Iâll do my best to let you know about the things that I want to do and have done. If you want me to do anything else, then just please tell me, alright?â
He also added on, âI donât know how to love people, but Iâll do my best to learn to love you.â
A few years ago, he had said something similar to this. In truth, over all of these years, he had worked hard to fulfill this promise.
Cheng Xi smiled as she caressed his face. âAlright. My legs are numb because youâve been sleeping on them, so will you help me massage them?â
â......â
He sighed, leaned down, and started squeezing her legs in a rough and untrained manner. His ministrations only made Cheng Xi itchy, and she couldnât stop herself from giggling lightly. Then, she hurriedly grabbed his hands. âAlright, alright. Itâs not numb anymore.â
She leaned down slightly, causing her upper body to rest against his shoulder as she laughed so hard that her face turned slightly red. Lu Chenzhou kissed her lips softly, and then deepened the kiss.
Cheng Xi was a little embarrassed by the public display of affection, but she couldnât break free. In the end, she closed her eyes and did her best to pretend that nobody could see them.
Her wish nearly came true; Chen Jiaman had fallen asleep, and the attendants had been instructed not to disturb them. If they did enter, however, then they would have seen a cloyingly sweet sight, beautiful and warm. A handsome man and a beautiful woman were smiling and eyeing each other as if they were characters in a childrenâs fairytale.
In the past, Lu Chenzhou hated travelling, but now, being on the road with Cheng Xi was one of his favorite ways to spend his time. Afterall, it was only then that she belonged solely to him.
After the plane landed, Cheng Xi was once again surrounded by a crowd of people who had come to welcome her, pushing Mr. Lu away from her. Chen Jiaman, that terrible lass, had long since lost her fear of him after a few words from Cheng Xi. When she saw Lu Chenzhou being separated from Cheng Xi, since she hated seeing him occupy all of Cheng Xiâs time, she naturally mocked, âIs your heart aching? Youâre not the only one by Momâs side anymore.â
â......â
Lu Chenzhou vowed to give birth to a daughter to lower Chen Jiamanâs importance in Cheng Xiâs heart!!!
