Run➳Jacob Black [Book 1]

The first day of school was always a nightmare. What was even worse was that Bella and Kate were starting school in the middle of the semester: March. When they parked in the parking lot that morning, Kate felt like she was going to be sick. She slung her bag over her shoulder as she got out of the car. They made their way to the front of the school but before they could a kid called out to them.

"Nice ride," the kid mocked.

Bella meekly said, "Thanks" and pulled Kate along with her to the front of the school not looking back.

"Bella, let go," Kate whined.

She was ignored and was dragged up to the front steps of the school. When they got there, Bella let go of her and looked down at a map of the school trying to find their classes. Suddenly they received taps on their shoulders and they turned around to see a dark haired kid looking at them way too excitedly.

"You're Isabella and Katherine Swan, the new girls! Hi, I'm Eric, the eyes and ears of this place. Anything you need, tour guide, lunch date, shoulder to cry on?"

Kate rolled her eyes but Bella tried to appease him, "I'm more of a suffer in silence type."

"What about you baby Swan?" Eric asked her.

She just shrugged, "I'm more of a make other people suffer type."

Eric's face just lit up, "Good headline for your feature. I'm on the paper and you're news, ladies. Front page."

Kate grabbed his arm, "No we're not."

"Whoa! Relax! No feature okay?"

Kate nodded her head and smiled looking for a way out of there, "Right. Well I've got to get to class. I think it's in building B. I'll see you guys later."

Bella looked at her begging her not to go but Kate just ignored her and went to her first class of the day. Finding the classroom was not hard once she got the hallways marked down. She quickly sat at the back of the class and waited for class to start. Right before the bell was supposed to ring a blonde girl came and stood right next to Kate and looked at her expectantly before tapping her on the shoulder.

"You're in my seat," the girl said shortly.

"Oh, sorry," Kate mumbled before scooting over to the seat next to her. The blonde girl sat down and took out a notebook and various pencils. Once the bell rang, the teacher called the class to order.

"Alright, alright, settle down. Now we have a new student in class today, Miss Katherine Swan. I expect each of you to give her a warm welcome in due time. Now today, we are going to continue our work on landscape shading. Get to work!"

Kate sat there stupidly looking around at the other art students opening their notebooks and chatting among themselves. The blonde next to her did the same but didn't look up from her drawing once. Kate chanced a glance at it and saw a beautiful open home with trees in the background. She gasped and the blonde looked at her before going back to her work.

Shaking her head, Kate opened up her book and started to flip the pages. There were so many drawings of various things from her life but she never really loved any of them enough to display them. She took her pencil and copied the blonde's idea next to her and drew Charlie's house. It felt like minutes but the second that the bell rang she had only finished the outline.

"We'll continue tomorrow," the teacher called out.

The morning passed in a similar fashion. Kate would get to class, she would get called out, she would work, and she would leave. Unlike the rest of the classes, she was actually looking forward to gym next period because it was the only class that she had with her sister. In Arizona, she and Bella weren't required to take all four years of gym but here, but here they were.

"How's your first day going?" Kate asked Bella.

Her sister just made a strange face and walked out onto the volleyball court. Kate sighed and followed her out there. Bella should never do anything that requires any physical activity. The volleyball game was a fiasco for Bella who watched Kate dive for balls left and right. Kate spent the game jumping and hitting the ball getting pretty good at it until the ball came right for Bella and she hit it right into the back of some poor guy's head. Kate rolled her eyes and walked over to the boy with Bella.

"I'm sorry," Bella apologized, "I told them not to let me play."

"No, no...don't...uh...you're Isabella and Katherine right?"

"Bella and Kate actually," Bella corrected.

The boy shook his head and put his hand out to them, "Yea, hey. I'm Mike Newton!"

"Nice to meet you, Mike," Kate said as they dropped hands.

Just then, a perky brunette girl bounced over to where they are. She smiled at the Swan sisters but kept eyeing Mike to see his reaction.

"She's got a great spike, huh? I'm Jessica by the way!"

"Kate and this my sister Bella."

"You guys are from Arizona right? Aren't people from Arizona supposed to be really tan?"

Kate just gave Jessica the strangest look she could come up with while Bella just muttered like she normally did, "Yea maybe that's why they kicked us out."

There was an awkward silence between the four of them before Mike and Jessica started laughing. Although, admittedly, Jessica's laugh was really fake. Bella waved goodbye and walked back toward the volleyball game.

"Hey Arizona, you should have lunch with us," Mike told Kate.

Seeing as how she didn't have anyone to eat with, and she would bet all the money in the world that Bella didn't either, she nodded her head and followed her sister back to the volleyball game.

The lunchroom was just as disgusting as any lunchroom Kate had ever seen. There were the cliques spread all throughout and the food looked just inedible. Mike, Bella, Jessica, and Kate made their way to the lunch table where Eric sat and made their selves comfortable. Kate sat there picking at the food just watching the people interact with each other. She didn't even notice what was going on until Bella's foot slipped under the table and kicked Kate hard in the shins.

"Ow!"

Bella looked at her with a guilty expression on her face, "Sorry," before turning to Jessica, "Who are they?"

Jessica and the girl whose name she learned was Angela turned to look at the incoming group of people. Kate stretched her neck to see a group of the most beautiful people in the world coming in from outside. Leading them was the blonde girl whose seat she had stolen in first period.

Angela whipped around back at the table, "The Cullens."

Jessica explained some more, "They're Dr. and Mrs. Cullen's foster kids. They moved down here from Alaska like, a few years ago."

"They kind of keep to themselves."

"Yea cause they're all like together, like together, together. The blonde girl, that's Rosalie, and the big dark haired guy, are like a thing. I'm not even sure that's legal."

Kate watched the family enter. They were all so graceful and beautiful it almost hurt her to look at them. She actually found it a little hard to swallow.

"Jess," Angela interrupted, "They're not actually related."

"Yea but they live together! It's weird. Okay the little dark haired girl is Alice; she's really weird. She's with Jasper, the blonde one, who looks like he's in pain. Dr. Cullen's like the foster dad/matchmaker."

Angela giggled, "Maybe he'll adopt me."

Kate smiled and went back to her food until Bella spoke up again, "Who's he?"

Jessica smiled even more, "That's Edward Cullen. He's totally gorgeous, obviously but apparently nobody here is good enough for him. Like I care you know?"

Kate snorted into her soda but quickly covered it with a cough.

"Seriously, like don't even try," Jessica warned her.

Bella shook her head but looked back over at their table, "Wasn't planning on it."

Kate suddenly felt a little sick at the sight of food and pushed her tray away from her. To distract herself, she allowed Jessica and Angela to question her. She honestly felt like she was being interrogated. She was relieved when the lunch bell rang and she could get out of there. All of their questions were giving her a pounding headache.

After school Kate stood by the truck waiting for Bella to get there. She was growing angrier with her sister by the minute. Her head had been pounding all afternoon and not even the heater in the school could keep her warm in this cold weather.

"What took you so long?" she asked Bella as she scurried up.

Bella shook her head, "Nothing."

"Bullshit. Come on let's get home. I want to lie down," Kate said wrenching the door open.

Bella smiled at this, "Getting sick of this place already."

Kate rolled her eyes but leaned her head on the cool door, "Laugh it up, Bella."

They were ten minutes down the road before Kate sat bolt upright, "Bella pull over."

"What?" Bella looked around at her confused.

"I said pull over!"

Bella pulled the car onto a side street. Kate flung open the door and vomited all over the side of the road. Her head was killing her. She got out of the car and put her hands over her head.

"Oh my god, Kate. Are you okay?" Bella screamed at her.

"No," Kate panted, "I don't know what's wrong."

Bella placed a hand on her shoulder; "Let's get you home okay."

Kate nodded but before she could take a step, her head felt like it was being split open and she groaned so loudly that a dog next door started to bark.

"Kate, hold on! Kate! Kate!"

She heard Bella's cries as if she was going farther and farther away down a tunnel but there was nothing to stop her. Kate shut her eyes and cried out before passing out not feeling it when she hit the floor.
