Chapter 18

Arrested

Latino Billionaire 1: The Billionaire's Heart

TINA

I sat at the counter, watching as the police officers went about their work. I could not believe what had happened today.

Kelly was arrested.

Why is it that whenever she comes to my house and invites me to hang out, something disastrous always happens? The charity event, the club, the healthy restaurant, and now this.

If we got through this, I would tell Kelly to put our hangout on hold for a month. Or until that slut was dealt with. It was almost always her fault. And she wasn’t even someone Alejandro really cared about. I could tell from how he talked about her.

Speaking of Alejandro, I had immediately called him after the arrest and gave him the details and whereabouts of the station, and he replied that he would be over. When this is over, he would also get a good talking to from me. I didn’t care that he was my boss and my potential lover. He needed to put this bitch on a leash and get her out of our lives.

Just when I got tired of waiting and assumed Kelly was going to spend the night in a cell, I saw Alejandro walk into the station. He looked tired, and his hair was disheveled.

I liked that look on him. He still looked as sexy as ever. His eyes scanned the room, and they landed on mine. He rushed to me.

“Thank goodness you came,” I said as he took my hand in his.

“I don’t make promises I don’t plan to keep. I’m sorry I kept you waiting.” His tired eyes stared intently into mine. “Where’s she?”

“In custody,” I replied. “I think you will have to speak with the chief.” His hand felt good around mine.

“That won’t be a problem.” He gave my hand a squeeze. Then he made his way to the counter where one of the officers was on duty. I saw recognition fill the officer’s eyes as Alejandro questioned him.

Their voices were low during the interaction, but I knew Alejandro was asking about Kelly.

The officer jerked a thumb toward a corridor, and Alejandro nodded. He turned to me and signaled for me to wait.

I guess I had to trust he was taking care of this. I’d never bailed anyone out of jail before, and somehow, I felt like maybe he had. I slumped back into my seat. Alejandro made his way into the corridor.

Another round of agonizing minutes passed. It’s so funny how interesting the ticking hands could be when you were waiting for something.

I leapt to my feet as Alejandro made his way out. To my relief and happiness, Kelly followed behind him.

“Kelly!” I squealed as I rushed toward her. I caught her in a tight embrace.

“Easy, babe.” She laughed as she patted my back. “Don’t squish my boobs. They are my most valuable assets, you know.”

She said the last part in a whisper, and I pulled away from her, shaking my head. I loved her for making light of a serious situation.

I examined her. Apart from her rumpled blouse, she didn’t look out of sorts.

“Are you okay?” I asked her.

Alejandro had moved toward the counter to talk with the officer.

“Yeah,” Kelly replied, flashing her signature defiant smile. “No cell in this world can tame this bad bitch.”

I laughed as I swatted her arm.

“I’m lucky our boss bailed me out.” She nodded toward Alejandro, who was now walking toward us.

I felt my heart warm in appreciation. His eyes landed on mine, and I read the message behind them. I knew why he had come to Kelly’s rescue. He knew what she meant to me.

“All right, let’s head out,” he said.

It was a silent ride. I stared at the now dark sky, trying to count the tiny stars. Even the usually talkative Kelly was silent in the back seat.

She looked thoughtful. I wondered if she was just as upset as I was.

I glanced sideways at Alejandro. His eyes were focused on the road, but I could see the tension in his jaw.

“I owe you ladies an apology.” He finally broke the silence.

“Why, sir?” Kelly asked from the back.

“Because it was my fault,” he replied, keeping his eyes on the road. “The woman who caused this mess is my responsibility. I didn’t think she was going to lash out like this.”

“Don’t beat yourself too much about it, sir.” Kelly flashed a grin. “I’m sure what I did to her was a reminder not to cross the line.”

Alejandro’s lips twitched, and I knew he was struggling to contain a smile. It was so cute that he still tried to stay stoic in front of everyone but me.

After we dropped Kelly at her house, Alejandro parked the car by my apartment and switched off the ignition. For a moment, we said nothing as we listened to the crickets chirp around us.

“Crazy day,” he said.

“I couldn’t agree more.” I laughed.

He smiled as his eyes shifted to mine.

My laughter died down, and I felt the excitement leave me. I looked away.

“What is wrong?” I felt his finger under my chin, tilting my face to look at him. His eyes were filled with concern.

“Thanks for what you did today,” I said. “But it’s not enough. Natalie has proven to be more than an obsessive ex—”

“She was never my girlfriend—” Alejandro scowled.

“I know,” I cut him off. “But she doesn’t see it that way. Honestly, Alejandro, you are an awesome guy. I really care about you, and I want to give this a try. But I can’t be dating you if violent and obsessive women keep popping out of nowhere—and—”

Then he kissed me.

I gasped into his mouth from sheer surprise. Then my eyes closed as I returned his kiss.

A moan rumbled down my throat as I felt his hand land on my thigh. It sent a tingle to my legs, and I felt heat at my core.

My legs spread a bit as his hand roamed further up. My heartbeat tripled. I was so excited.

It felt amazing to kiss him. I hadn’t thought anyone would get me going after Mike, but I felt like I could be present with Alejandro. I would have been smiling if I wasn’t busy with my lips doing more important things. I ran my fingertips over his eyebrow and then his chiseled cheek. I wanted to touch him everywhere.

I was making out with a billionaire, and things were about to get X-rated. I wouldn’t mind if they did. It had been two months since I got some action last.

But then he pulled away. I pouted in disappointment.

“Don’t do that.” He touched my lips with a slight chuckle. “It doesn’t suit you.”

“This is your fault.” I folded my arms.

“I know,” he replied. “And I’ll make it up to you. After I sort out Natalie and we have dinner with my family, I will. Let’s not rush.”

He leaned in and kissed my cheek.

I could feel my face blush. I really liked him. Any other guy might have happily taken me to bed, and I would have been happy to let him. But this guy wanted us to take our time. Still, he’d left me high and dry. “You’re lucky you’re good-looking.” I stuck out my tongue at him. “Otherwise, I would still be mad at you.”

“I know.” He winked.

I chuckled as I opened the door and stepped out.

“Goodnight, Alejandro,” I said as he started the engine.

“Goodnight,” he replied with a teasing smile. “Dream of me.”

I watched his car as it disappeared down the road.

Oh, I definitely will dream of him.

And I hope it’s not going to be innocent dreams.
