Bumpkins Rich Handsome Husband Chapter 145
Bumpkins Rich Handsome Husband
The phone in Veronicaâs pocket rang all of a sudden as she walked out of the basement car park deject edly.
When she took out her phone, she couldnât help but think of Matthew. For one second, she even had th e anticipation that the call could possibly be from him, but she then recalled that she had already block ed his contact.
So, when Veronica looked at the phone screen to see Xavierâs number, she heaved a sigh of relief inwardly and answered the call. âHey, Xavier.â
âWhatâs up? Do you want to come out for supper?â Xavier asked on the other end of the line.
He knew Veronica was going to leave Bloomstead soon, so he wished to ask her out and spend more ti me with her.
âSure, since I havenât had dinner yet, but the meal is on you todayâIâm broke.â Veronica couldnât help feeling distressed at the thought of the sum that she had spent last night.
âThatâs not a problem at all, but can you please donât ditch me at that kind of cheap motel again if I bec ome drunk next time? Iâll pay you back anyway.â
Only Xavier knew how miserable it was to wake up in a cheap motel.
âHaha⦠Iâm broke, you see. Itâs hard to earn a living. Hahaâ¦â
Laughing heartily, Veronica felt a sense of ease that was only possible when she was with Xavier.
With that, the two decided to meet at Johnâs, where Veronica bought Xavier a meal for the first time.
After meeting up, they found a table near the entrance. Then, Veronica ordered some dishes and a dozen beers as she sat down and started chattin g away with Xavier.
âYou told me you had something to attend to so you couldnât make it to the office this morning. What is i t that kept you busy the whole day?â
Sitting across Veronica, Xavier stared at her fixedly with his eyes glistened.
At the mention of todayâs incident, the smile on Veronicaâs face obviously became still, but she quickly li fted her brows and grinned. âNothing. Itâs just⦠I had a long day yesterday and was a bit tired.â
Veronica did not wish to talk about what happened between Matthew and her anymore.
âBy the way, how much was the bill at Twilight Club last night?â
Xavier shook his head in embarrassment and shrugged with an evil smile. âI was in a good mood yeste rday, so I drank too much and fell asleep.â
Hearing Xavierâs question, Veronica did not answer him as she did not know how she should reply.
âHow much discount did Matthew give you? Or he did not ask you to pay at all?â
Given Xavierâs understanding of Matthew, he thought that Matthew was actually quite caring toward Ver onica.
Back when Veronica was abducted overseas, it was Matthew who went ahead of Xavier to rescue Vero nica; the other time when the flood happened at Dawnpol Village, it was Matthew too who came to Vero nicaâs rescue before him.
Xavier had caught all these details, but Veronica thought Xavier was dropping a clanger.
âHeâ¦â
Veronica wanted to say that Matthew charged her the full amount, but given Xavierâs personality, if he k new Veronica had paid the full bill at Twilight Club last night, he would surely transfer the money to her.
Ever since she came to Bloomstead, Xavier had given her much care. Veronica was grateful to Xavier
and did not want to owe him anything, so she decided to lie. âYeah, he didnât even ask me for a single p enny. Hahaâ¦â
My foot!
Smiling bitterly, Veronica poured a glass of beer and lifted the glass to give Xavier a toast. âCheers! Iâm
leaving in a few days and only God knows when we can meet again. Isnât that right?â
âYeah. We should drink the night away!â
âSure, letâs tie one on. However, we should keep in touch even after I leave Bloomstead. There are so me things I still wish to consult you with.â
âNot a problem at all. All you have to do is ask. As your good friend, I will definitely not sit by and do not hing.â
Following that, the two had a relaxed and hearty chat.
Veronica genuinely felt that she would feel extraordinarily carefree every time she was with Xavier. The
interaction between them was like brothers pouring their hearts out to each other, so Veronica felt very
comfortable.
After both of them bottomcd up, Xavier put down his glass and stared at Veronica, who was sitting acro ss from him while wearing a thoughtful look with her head lowered. Then, he pressed his lips and aske d, âAre you really going to leave Bloomstead? Can you even bear to leave?â
What Xavier had just said bore a hidden meaning behind it.
As smart as a whip, Veronica naturally knew what Xavier was hinting at.
She then placed her elbows on the table and cupped her face with her hands. Her gaze went past Xavier to stare atâ
a television hanging on the wall, and her eyes became even more gloomy.
âTo be honest, putting aside the personal grudge between Tiffany and me, the two of them are indeed a perfect match.â
As Veronica said that, there was a tinge of sorrow and loneliness in her alluring eyes.
Perceiving Veronicaâs expression, Xavier followed her gaze and turned to look at the television on the
wall which was broadcasting news about Matthew and Tiffany.
The television was showing a playback video which was taken during the engagement of Tiffany and M atthew back then with the title âYoung Master Kings and Miss Larsonâs Marriage Is Happening on 28th
Next Month.
The eyeâcatching broadcasted title was actually hard on Veronicaâs eyes.
Staring at the television screen, Veronica sank into silence, but her eyes continued to glue to the screen However, Xavier felt his heart wrenched seeing Veronicaâs sorrowful look.
âHe is not worthy of you,â Xavier expressed his personal opinion.
He indeed felt that Matthew was unworthy of Veronica. Besides the fact that Matthew came from a bette âI donât get it. Back then, it was you who saved Matthew, but didnât he suspect that at all?â Xavier was ve Veronica continued staring fixedly at the screen and mumbled as if she was talking to herself, âHe has no clue.â
She shook her head and sighed. âIâve never told Matthew that I saved him. Besides, Iâve changed the fo food delivery account and the fake name left in the hospital, Tiffany had the ring which was given by Mat spend extra effort to investigate a matter which was already âconfirmed.â
In fact, if the same happened to Veronica, she too would not go and investigate an incident that already
let alone Matthew since it was clearly a waste of time to do so.
âThatâs not fair,â
Xavier tightened his grip on the singleâ
use wine cup and distorted the plastic cup. At the same time, beer flowed out from his fist.
Amused, Veronica laughed. âHaha! Fairness? Nothing is fair in the adult world. Everyoneâs just striving t Then, she gradually retracted her gaze to look at Xavier. âBeing born into the Crawford Family, you should know this better than me.â
Nonetheless, Veronica clearly knew that it was exactly because Xavier had seen everything too thoroug Towards the end, he too was a pitiful man.
âRony, youâre too silly.â
Xavier grabbed the beer bottle, filled his cup again, and started drinking on his own:
âFortune favors fools at times. Sigh, letâs not talk about these anymore. By the way, Iâve always wanted to since youâre currently running a company independently, donât you plan to one day go back to work for C
