Plotting
The Werewolf Chronicles
Bambi
âNo one really comes to the pack house library, except for the occasional high school student doing a research project,â Kalindi said as she led me down a steep staircase. âAlthough it is an ideal place to plot and strategizeâno prying eyes or distractions.â
~I donât know if what Iâm doing is considered plotting, but I seem to have chosen the perfect location for researching the Great War.~
We entered a room with a low ceiling and a dozen tables and chairs, surrounded by dusty discolored bookshelves on every wall.
Kalindi was right. This place clearly hadnât seen much use in recent times.
Sitting at a table in the corner were two girls around my age.
One of them looked similar to Kalindi, but less edgy and toned. That must be Ela.
The second girl was a pretty blonde, with gray eyes and glasses. She shot out of her seat as soon as I approached and extended her hand.
âVictoria Spencer,â she said, introducing herself. âIâm so glad you thought to start a book club. I think thatâs a wonderful idea.â
I exchanged a knowing look with Kalindi.
âPleasure to meet you, Victoria.â
âAnd this is my little sis, Ela,â Kalindi said, wrapping her arms around the other girl. âSheâs a legal assistant, here at the pack office.â
âIâd shake your hand, but my sister is squeezing me to death with her vise grip.â Ela laughed.
âDo you work here too?â I asked Victoria.
âOh no, I sometimes work at my motherâs bakery, but honestly, when Ela told me about this book club, I just jumped at the chance to have something social to do,â she said, starting to relax. âI donât get out as much as Iâd like.â
âSheâs mated to Beta Ryland,â Ela said, loosening her sisterâs grip. âSo she gets the whole mating into the Royal Pack thing.â
âReally, youâre mated to Ryland?â I said, surprised as Victoria blushed.
~Itâs cute that the mention of her mate makes her blush. I wish I felt that way.~
âYes, he was very excited when I told him Iâd be spending time with the Luna,â she replied.
âOh, umâ¦please just call me Bambiâ¦both of you,â I said embarrassed. âIâm not a fan of titles.â
âDone and done,â Ela said with a smile.
âOn that note, Iâll be patrolling the perimeter of the library while you girls do your thing. For the safety of the ~Luna~,â Kalindi winked.
Ela waited until her sister was gone then instantly leaned in close to me.
âOkay, spill,â she said, excited. âWhatâs the real reason you wanted to come here? It canât actually be about the books, right?â
She clearly had the same quick mind as her sister.
âYes, tell us, Bambi. I need some excitement in my life,â Victoria said, pulling me into the chair next to her.
~Can I trust these two? My gut instinct says yesâ¦~
âItâs not that interesting, butâ¦â
They both looked at me with wide eyes.
âIâm here to researchâ¦the Great War,â I revealed.
âOh, thatâs it?â Ela looked disappointed. âI was hoping it would at least be like⦠studying positions from the ~Kama Sutra~ or something.â
âNo, nothing like that.â I laughed nervously. âItâs just that Ekon doesnât keep any books on the war at his estateâ¦like, none at all. And I have some questions I need answered.â
âOkay, now youâve got my attention,â Victoria said, intrigued. âI know about Alpha Ekonâs aversion to anything war-related through Ryland.â
âMy parents died in the Great War,â I explained. âAnd I think Ekon knows more than heâs telling me.â
Ela rubbed her hands together excitedly. âSounds risky. Iâm in. And donât worry about Vicky over here. Just because sheâs mated to the Beta doesnât mean sheâll snitch.â
âLike I said, I need some excitement in my life,â Victoria said, leaning back in her chair.
I looked at my new friends with a determined smile.
âSo, where do we start?â
Victoria got up and walked over to the dustiest shelf in the room. She pulled out a massive book that looked like it hadnât been checked out in ages.
âWe can start with the ~Werewolf Chronicles~, the recorded history of all packs,â she said, dropping the book on the table with a thud. âThis is volume three. It should cover most of the Great War.â
âPerfect, then letâs get started, ladies,â I said, eager to dive in.
~The truth about my parents and Ekon might be buried in this very bookâ¦~

When I arrived home from the library, I heard yelling from Ekonâs office.
I crept quietly to his door, which was slightly ajar.
As I peeked through the crack, I could see Ekon, pacing around Ryland in a fury.
âThat cunt sniffer has a lot of nerve showing up hereâto my pack,â Ekon growled.
I covered my mouth in shock.
~Who is he talking about in such a harsh way?~
âItâs unexpected, yes, but the treaties that King Dmitri signed allow ~any~ pack to cross the borders of another whenever they please, even the Blackwoods,â Ryland said. âAnd that includes giving them food and lodging if theyââ
âFuck that treaty. Iâm not providing hospitality to a fucking Blackwood,â Ekon spat.
âI understand your concern, but Hunter Blackwood isnât his father. He didnât start the Great War. He inherited the Pack from his father, much like you, and we have a duty under the king toââ
âDonât try to be diplomatic about this, Ryland. A Blackwood is a Blackwood. Theyâre all rotten bastards. Especially the cunt sniffer.â
âHe does have aâ¦certain reputationâ¦Iâll admit, but this is a chance to bury hatchets and show that the Jedrek Pack is willing to mend old wounds,â Ryland responded. âItâs only one night, and then heâs off to the Northern Pack.â
âI wonât let that snake go to the Northern Pack alone,â Ekon growled. âHeâs plotting something. Iâll escort him there myself and see what his intent really is.â
As Ryland walked close to the door, I quickly backed away and ran up the stairs to my bedroom. I sat down on my bed, trying to deconstruct everything Iâd just heard.
An Alpha named Hunter Blackwood was coming here for the night. And his reputation clearly preceded him.
Iâd heard that name before, but I couldnât place itâ¦
Max would know, that I was sure of. I pulled out my phone and began typing.
Bambi
Max, I have a question about an Alphaâ¦
Bambi
Heâs coming here to stay with Ekonâs pack tonight.
Bambi
I canât place his name.
Max
Who is it?
Bambi
Alpha Hunter Blackwood
Max
FUCK
Max
bambi
Max
you stay the fuck away from him
Max
do you understand
Max
donât trust anything he says
Max
donât even fucking look at him
Bambi
Max, calm down.
Bambi
Is he really that bad?
Max
yes
Max
heâs a damn cunt sniffer
Bambi
Why does everyone call him that?
Bambi
Isnât that a bit extreme?
Max
do you consider fucking another alphaâs mate extreme?
Bambi
What??
Bambi
Thatâs not even possible!
Max
heâs done it
Max
and when the alpha attacked him
Max
blackwood disemboweled him
Max
he got off bc he was technically defending himself
Bambi
Thatâs terrible!
Max
just promise me youâll be careful
Bambi
I promise.
So Hunter Blackwood slept with another Alphaâs mate? Mating bonds were extremely difficult to break. It was almost unheard of.
I didnât know if that scared me more than the fact that his father had helped start the war that killed my parents and countless others.
Either way, Hunter Blackwood was bad newsâ¦

As we stood at the gate of the compound, Ekon looked more tense than Iâd ever seen him. Ryland stood at his side while Kalindi stood at mine, and all the staff and soldiers lined up behind us.
This was a typical reception for an Alpha. Iâd done this many times alongside my brother at our pack back home, but never as a Luna.
Ekon hadnât told me anything about Hunter Blackwood, probably hoping to shield me from him, but it was better that I knew what I did.
I was prepared for his tricks.
As the heavy iron gates creaked open, a long motorcade began to drive through.
Ekonâs eyes grew darker, and the hair on his neck stood up. He looked like he was holding back from shifting.
The motorcade stopped in front of us.
âCunt sniffer,â Kalindi growled under her breath.
I smiled to myself. This welcome may have been mandatory, but it wouldnât be a warm one.
One of Blackwoodâs soldiers opened the door of the luxury car in the middle of the motorcade. A tall, muscular man with tan skin and dark hair stepped out.
He had a devilish smirk on his face, and his yellow eyes sparkled with mischief under the floodlights of the compound.
He definitely looked like trouble.
âAlpha Supreme Jedrek,â he said, extending his hand as he approached Ekon.
I could tell that it took everything within Ekon not to extend his claws instead.
Hunter Blackwood turned to me next and looked at me with an insatiable thirst in his eyes.
He closed his eyes and sniffed the air around me.
My stomach dropped. I was frozen as I waited for his next move. And then his eyes flashed back open, and his gaze bore into me.
âYou smell...nice,â he said, lightly licking his lips.
