Chapter 85
Sweet Subterfuge
âHer daughterâinâlaw! I bet sheâs trying to force her to change her mind. Itâs totally disgusting!â
âYeah! If I was Larissa, I would never come! See what she does!â
âCome on, guys, letâs go! I daresay that someone like her wonât jump! The more people watch, the more sheâll act up! If no one bothers to entertain her, sheâll just slip away quietly on her own!â
The voice of the speaker was a little familiar. Larissa had just turned back when she smacked right into a firm chest. Huffing as she held her sore nose, she looked up to see-âMr. Rogers?â Her eyes widened.
As for the other guy near him chatting with the others, who else could it be but Dylan Shields?
âWhy are you here?â
Kevan did not answer, but he gripped her wrist and said flatly, âCome.â
As his pace was faster than hers, Larissa had to jog a little to keep up with him as he dragged her.
Kevanâs car was parked near the surgery building. Once he pushed Larissa into the back seat, he sat on the other side of it as well.
A few minutes later, Dylan got into the car as well.
âDid you come by yourself or did the police call you?â he asked Larissa.
âZero told me that my motherâinâlaw intended to jump off the hospital building, and I came over to see if it was really her,â Larissa replied.
Kevan frowned. âAfter that, you didnât leave? What were you waiting for, for her to blackmail you again?â
He sounded like a parent scolding their child. Even if his tone was unkind, Larissa could hear the concern he had for her.
She bit her lip. âI turned off my phone. The police wouldnât be able to call me.â
âWhat if someone recognized you? Have you forgotten that millions of people have seen your livestream tonight?â Kevan was still nagging her.
Larissa softened her tone immediately.
âIâm sorry.â She smiled in an attempt to appease him. âI did not think this through.â
Kevan harrumphed coldly and turned to look out of the window. He rolled it down, and the cool wind of the night soothed some of his anger.
However, Larissaâs soft pleading incited a sudden urge in him to push her down in the car and roughly have his way with her.
Once he had calmed down, Kevan said, âDylan.â
Dylan, who was busy keeping an eye on what was going on at the surgery building, responded.
âHmm?â
âHead up there.â Janineâs incessant wailing made Kevanâs eyes narrow. âTell her that youâre the lawyer representing Larissa. Ask her if she has any demands.â
âSure.â Dylan got out of the car. He had taken two steps before turning back again. Leaning against the window, he gazed at Larissa.
âBy the way, Ms. Seymour.â He smiled coolly, which scared Larissa so much that she shuddered.
âWhen I get back, weâll have a good chat about that attorneyâs letter in your bag.â
Larissa instinctively hugged her bag.
To be honest, she had not thought too deeply into itâDylan specialized in handling divorce cases and might not excel in other cases.
She did her research online. Defamation lawsuits were not difficult to go through, especially when there was sufficient evidence. So, she did not trouble him for it and found a reputable law firm instead.
She did not think he would mind it so much.
âOkay.â Larissa forced out a smile with great difficulty.
