Chapter 68
Sweet Subterfuge
Phrases like âfulfill a request of mineâ oftentimes contained a huge trap.
Although Kevan was not a bad person, he was definitely no angel either. She would never dare delude herself into thinking of taking advantage of him, because she knew that this was impossible. So, she said, âItâs better if I transfer the money to you.â
However, Kevanâs attitude was not as aggressive as she thought. He even changed his mind after her words, saying, âSure then. Transfer 1.5 million to me tomorrow.â
âWhat?!â Larissa thought she might have misheard. â1.5 million?â She felt like an inexperienced and naive person at this moment, complaining loudly. âIsnât it just a dress? Why is it so expensive?â
But deep down, she knew that the gown really was that expensive.
âIf you suspect that Iâm lying to you, Iâll have Vivian send you a picture of the receipt later.â Kevan looked at Larissa. He was as cool as a cucumber.
Well, since he said so, Larissa could no longer question him like this.
However-
âI donât have that much money at the moment,â she said with some embarrassment. Could I pay you back in installments? Or wait until my lawsuit with Travis is finished? Once I get the house, Iâll sell it and pay you back all at once.â
âInstallments?â Kevan raised an eyebrow with some disdain. âWhatâs your monthly salary? Twenty thousand? Even if you donât eat, you still have to wait a few years before it is all cleared, right? As for the lawsuit between you and Travisâwith his current condition, how long do you think itâll take before he can accept any inquiries from the court?â
Larissa was struck speechless by his questions, âMy apologies, Ms. Seymour. Even if you can wait for that long, Iâm afraid I canât.â Kevan rejected her installment payment plan suggestion at once.
bl Larissa felt that she was standing at a fork in the road, but one of the paths had been off entirely.
Before she knew it, the elevator had reached the 19th floor, and sopened with a ding. Larissa looked out, but she could not step out of the elevators.
They remained in a deadlock, and Kevan clearly had no intention of backing off.
Larissa hesitated and struggled before asking, âWhat do you mean by fulfilling a requestâ of yours?â
If he broached the topic now, she may consider it. If he insisted on getting a promise from her first, she would do whatever it takes to gather 1.5 million dollars for him.
Seeing that she had relented, Kevanâs smile became a little obvious.
âItâs simple,â he said. âPretend that youâre my girlfriend.â
âWhat?!â This was even more shocking than the 1.5 million dollars earlier. âWhy?â She really could not understand.
A man like Kevan could have any woman he liked. If he wanted, he could have a real girlfriend as well!
Why would he need her to pretend? It was so unnecessary.
Kevan tugged on his tie, his face contorted with disgust.
âToo many women are trying to sleep with me. Itâs annoying,â he said. âYouâre the only woman I know who isnât interested in me. So, I hope to fend off the annoying ones with your help.â
Larissa had witnessed the terrible state he was in after Karin had drugged him, so she knew he was not lying.
But-
