Chapter 580 - 586: Overwhelming Charisma

“Did you find out what the matter is?” Su Wenyue noticed that after Zhai Li’s visit, Han Yu’s expression had turned rather grim, and she feared he had learned why Liu Xiu was interested in her. She was actually quite curious herself, but judging from Han Yu’s reaction, it likely wasn’t good news.

“I found out, but I think someone is truly foolish. To think I trusted her words, and yet she caused such a mishap for me. How should I punish her, I wonder? Daughter-in-law, what do you say?” When Han Yu said this, a bemusing smile still played across his face, and his tone had softened.

He didn’t elaborate on the matter, his reply completely off-topic. Su Wenyue, however, heard the grit in his teeth, and even though she didn’t know the reason, she was quite certain that the ‘someone’ he referred to was her.

“Husband, you haven’t told me what the matter is! Even if someone made a mistake, it might not have been intentional. At least let her understand the reason, so she’s not wrongfully accused.” Since Han Yu wasn’t being explicit, Su Wenyue played along with his veiled speech,

“Wrongfully accuse you,” Han Yu didn’t hold back any longer. After hearing what Su Wenyue said, his smile grew even broader, making Su Wenyue’s scalp tingle.

“What exactly is the matter? I genuinely don’t understand why Liu Xiu would notice me. None of this was intentional. Please, don’t be angry and just tell me what’s going on, so I can stop feeling so uneasy,” Su Wenyue couldn’t stand Han Yu’s attitude and decided to ask him directly.

Seeing his daughter-in-law like this, Han Yu finally dropped his smile, and his face adopted a somewhat helpless expression: “Daughter-in-law, when you were with Uncle Wen, didn’t you say that Uncle Wen was always unconscious and hadn’t seen your true face? And you assured me so confidently that it wouldn’t bring you any trouble. So, what now, hm?”

Su Wenyue then realized what was going on. She thought about the situation back then, believing she likely wouldn’t have the chance to meet Liu Xiu again, and even if Liu Xiu did see her, she considered herself his lifesaver, so she expected that Liu Xiu’s character wouldn’t allow him to repay kindness with enmity. She didn’t care much about it. As for her assurances to Han Yu, those were merely to prevent him from taking the opportunity to lecture her, and to have some peace. In her previous life, she only found this man cold and indifferent, rarely speaking a few words to her. In this life, however, Han Yu seemed to have reversed his attitude, probably considering her part of his possessions and protection. His nagging could become unbearable at times.

“It can’t be that serious. Even if Liu Xiu finds out, he surely couldn’t hold a grudge for being saved rather than harmed by me. Shouldn’t he be grateful to me instead?” Su Wenyue thought to herself and voiced her opinion with a touch of defiance.

Han Yu felt somewhat hurt inside. His daughter-in-law’s logic was sound; Liu Xiu indeed held no malice toward her, rather, he had an excessive fondness for her, despite having tried his best to conceal it.

Don’t think he hadn’t noticed—being a man himself, he understood the thoughts that run through a man’s mind. If it weren’t for a deep concern, based solely on the fact that Su Wenyue was his daughter-in-law, Liu Xiu should have kept his distance to avoid suspicions. The saying “friends’ wives must not be coveted,” enforced a strong constraint on men like Liu Xiu, who grew up reading Confucian classics. Liu Xiu’s inappropriate actions only showed how great his daughter-in-law’s allure was.

“Stay at home obediently these days and don’t go anywhere. Seeing how Uncle Wen looks, he seems to have taken quite an interest in you. Han Yu, seeing Su Wenyue’s disbelief: “Are you doubting your man’s judgment?”

“No, of course not. But if that person does bear such thoughts, hiding at home wouldn’t be of much use,” Su Wenyue said somewhat guiltily, even though she hadn’t done anything to be disloyal to Han Yu. Yet, facing such an event, she still felt somewhat lacking in his presence. Moreover, she didn’t actually believe Liu Xiu would do anything; it seemed unnecessary to hide at home because of this.

“I would not ask you to do this without reason. Can’t you just be obedient?” Han Yu first reprimanded Su Wenyue, then continued, “I believe Liu Xiu remembers your appearance but isn’t certain that you are the one, so stay put these days, and I will have ways to throw him off. Even if he wouldn’t do anything to you, I still don’t want other men coveting my daughter-in-law.”

“That’s good.” Su Wenyue let out a sigh of relief upon hearing what Han Yu said, sneaking a glance at his expression. Although Han Yu still looked displeased, his words and tone were all about protecting and accommodating her.
