Chapter 580 - 586: Overwhelming Charisma
Rebirth of a Farming Wife
âDid you find out what the matter is?â Su Wenyue noticed that after Zhai Liâs visit, Han Yuâs expression had turned rather grim, and she feared he had learned why Liu Xiu was interested in her. She was actually quite curious herself, but judging from Han Yuâs reaction, it likely wasnât good news.
âI found out, but I think someone is truly foolish. To think I trusted her words, and yet she caused such a mishap for me. How should I punish her, I wonder? Daughter-in-law, what do you say?â When Han Yu said this, a bemusing smile still played across his face, and his tone had softened.
He didnât elaborate on the matter, his reply completely off-topic. Su Wenyue, however, heard the grit in his teeth, and even though she didnât know the reason, she was quite certain that the âsomeoneâ he referred to was her.
âHusband, you havenât told me what the matter is! Even if someone made a mistake, it might not have been intentional. At least let her understand the reason, so sheâs not wrongfully accused.â Since Han Yu wasnât being explicit, Su Wenyue played along with his veiled speech,
âWrongfully accuse you,â Han Yu didnât hold back any longer. After hearing what Su Wenyue said, his smile grew even broader, making Su Wenyueâs scalp tingle.
âWhat exactly is the matter? I genuinely donât understand why Liu Xiu would notice me. None of this was intentional. Please, donât be angry and just tell me whatâs going on, so I can stop feeling so uneasy,â Su Wenyue couldnât stand Han Yuâs attitude and decided to ask him directly.
Seeing his daughter-in-law like this, Han Yu finally dropped his smile, and his face adopted a somewhat helpless expression: âDaughter-in-law, when you were with Uncle Wen, didnât you say that Uncle Wen was always unconscious and hadnât seen your true face? And you assured me so confidently that it wouldnât bring you any trouble. So, what now, hm?â
Su Wenyue then realized what was going on. She thought about the situation back then, believing she likely wouldnât have the chance to meet Liu Xiu again, and even if Liu Xiu did see her, she considered herself his lifesaver, so she expected that Liu Xiuâs character wouldnât allow him to repay kindness with enmity. She didnât care much about it. As for her assurances to Han Yu, those were merely to prevent him from taking the opportunity to lecture her, and to have some peace. In her previous life, she only found this man cold and indifferent, rarely speaking a few words to her. In this life, however, Han Yu seemed to have reversed his attitude, probably considering her part of his possessions and protection. His nagging could become unbearable at times.
âIt canât be that serious. Even if Liu Xiu finds out, he surely couldnât hold a grudge for being saved rather than harmed by me. Shouldnât he be grateful to me instead?â Su Wenyue thought to herself and voiced her opinion with a touch of defiance.
Han Yu felt somewhat hurt inside. His daughter-in-lawâs logic was sound; Liu Xiu indeed held no malice toward her, rather, he had an excessive fondness for her, despite having tried his best to conceal it.
Donât think he hadnât noticedâbeing a man himself, he understood the thoughts that run through a manâs mind. If it werenât for a deep concern, based solely on the fact that Su Wenyue was his daughter-in-law, Liu Xiu should have kept his distance to avoid suspicions. The saying âfriendsâ wives must not be coveted,â enforced a strong constraint on men like Liu Xiu, who grew up reading Confucian classics. Liu Xiuâs inappropriate actions only showed how great his daughter-in-lawâs allure was.
Having a wife who was too appealing could be troubling. Forget Liu Xiu, there was previously Sikong Ling, who after just a day or two of being around his daughter-in-law, somehow became deeply attached to her. This made him proud yet simultaneously distressed.
âYou little tormentor!â Seeing his daughter-in-law looking so innocent and unaware, Han Yu felt a wicked fire in his heart, and he pulled her in for a thorough ravishing. Seeing his daughter-in-law flushed and lying in his arms, allowing him to do as he wished, all his emotions transformed into strands of tenderness, affection, and desire.
Had it not been for the injury on his body, and the business he still had to attend to, Han Yu would have found it difficult to restrain himself. It took a great effort to finally quell the fiery restlessness in his heart.
âStay at home obediently these days and donât go anywhere. Seeing how Uncle Wen looks, he seems to have taken quite an interest in you. Although he may not have any malicious intent, itâs still better to be cautious and avoid unnecessary trouble!â Han Yu said this primarily because he couldnât bear the thought of other men coveting his daughter-in-law, even if it was merely in their thoughts. As long as Liu Xiu stayed sensible, whether for public or private reasons, he wouldnât likely do anything to Su Wenyue.
âAre you saying?â Su Wenyue looked at Han Yu in surprise. She thought his reaction was somewhat excessiveâit was all over this? But how could that be?!@@novelbin@@
âHusband, could you have misunderstood? Iâve only met that person once; how could he possibly have such thoughts? Could you be mistaken?â Su Wenyue still found it hard to believe. While she was quite confident in her charm, who was Liu Xiu? Certainly not a man of lascivious character! To him, women were more of a commodity to be used. Even after he ascended to that position, there were just so many women in his harem, which was relatively few compared to the emperors of past dynasties. Back then, his subjects had presented various enchanting women to him, but Liu Xiu remained indifferent.
Su Wenyue knew this because she had heard it from Sikong Lingâs sighs. At that time, a beauty presented by the foreign countries, said to be a princess, had captured even Sikong Lingâs fancy. And yet, Liu Xiu, utterly lacking in compassion for feminine allure, bestowed that princess as a reward to one of his heroes.
Han Yu, seeing Su Wenyueâs disbelief: âAre you doubting your manâs judgment?â
âNo, of course not. But if that person does bear such thoughts, hiding at home wouldnât be of much use,â Su Wenyue said somewhat guiltily, even though she hadnât done anything to be disloyal to Han Yu. Yet, facing such an event, she still felt somewhat lacking in his presence. Moreover, she didnât actually believe Liu Xiu would do anything; it seemed unnecessary to hide at home because of this.
âI would not ask you to do this without reason. Canât you just be obedient?â Han Yu first reprimanded Su Wenyue, then continued, âI believe Liu Xiu remembers your appearance but isnât certain that you are the one, so stay put these days, and I will have ways to throw him off. Even if he wouldnât do anything to you, I still donât want other men coveting my daughter-in-law.â
âThatâs good.â Su Wenyue let out a sigh of relief upon hearing what Han Yu said, sneaking a glance at his expression. Although Han Yu still looked displeased, his words and tone were all about protecting and accommodating her.
In fact, she considered herself very lucky. Although Han Yu tended to get jealous, it was mostly talk, and he never really took it to heart,
