Chapter 578 - 584: Inexplicable

“Uncle Wen, you’re here?” Han Yu lay on the bed, smiling as he looked at Liu Xiu and said.

“You’ve just moved in, so I came to check if the environment is good. It looks quite decent here. The courtyard might be small, but it’s rather exquisite. Living here should be very comfortable, at least much better than the conditions in the military camp.” Liu Xiu had observed the surroundings on his way here and glanced around the room before drawing his conclusion.

The corner of Han Yu’s mouth still held a smile, and he seemed to be in particularly good spirits, “I’m not fussy about where I live, anything is fine, men aren’t so picky. This place was chosen by My Wife, and indeed, it’s quite nice!”

“Tsk tsk, it’s really different with a Daughter-in-law around. Who could have thought our usually cold and stern General Han has changed so much? Those unaware might think you’re a different person. “By the way, didn’t your younger sister-in-law come to take care of you? Where is she? I haven’t seen her since I came in.” Liu Xiu spoke as if casually, but it seemed more like a conventional expression of concern.

These past two days he had barely managed to restrain himself but had finally found an appropriate opportunity to come over today. Apart from caring about Han Yu’s health, his main intent was naturally to meet Su Wenyue and verify the suspicions in his heart. Unexpectedly, he hadn’t seen her yet.

However, Han Yu sensed something amiss in Liu Xiu’s behavior. Although such teasing was normal and the brothers in the Camp often joked like this, it was different coming from Liu Xiu.

Liu Xiu was a man with a Gentleman’s demeanor. Though their mutual trust had grown lately, bringing them closer and allowing Liu Xiu to joke occasionally, it was always within limits. Such excessive teasing as today had never happened before.

Han Yu had felt something was off when Liu Xiu didn’t ask for his opinion and directly sent word for his Daughter-in-law to come; he hadn’t thought much of it at the time, attributing it to Liu Xiu’s concern and eagerness to make amends. But now, it seemed that was not the case. An occurrence once could be a coincidence or unintentional, but twice or three times was definitely intentional.

Han Yu was already on guard inwardly, yet his face bore an even more harmless smile, seemingly oblivious as he mentioned Su Wenyue, his face unconsciously taking on a softer expression, “We’ve just moved in, and many things aren’t settled, My Wife has taken some people out to make purchases, and it might take a while before they return. Uncle Wen, if you want to meet her, you’ll have to wait until next time.”

Han Yu, who was always cunning on the inside, and particularly since he’d noticed Liu Xiu’s unusual attitude towards his Wife, would not let Liu Xiu meet Su Wenyue. At least not before he fully understood Liu Xiu’s intentions, he wouldn’t allow him to meet his Wife.

Liu Xiu, unaware that Han Yu had noticed something wrong, and hearing what Han Yu said, knew he would not be able to see her today and, not wanting to raise Han Yu’s suspicion, made a few jokes and didn’t mention Su Wenyue anymore.

“I just came over today to see how things are for you here, whether you needed my help. Since you’ve already arranged everything and have a Daughter-in-law to take care of you, I won’t stay long and will head back to Camp. There’s a lot to do there, and you best rest well.”

Han Yu had a Servant see Liu Xiu out on his behalf.

Once Liu Xiu left the room, the smile on Han Yu’s face disappeared, replaced by a look that was deep, inscrutable, and somewhat menacing.

As soon as Su Wenyue returned from outside and came in, she saw Han Yu looking at her with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, leaving her rather baffled.

Han Yu didn’t speak at first and just pulled Su Wenyue into his arms, causing her to startle repeatedly, “Han Yu, be careful, let go quickly, what if you hurt your wounds?”

While Su Wenyue said this, she didn’t dare struggle, for fear that any force she applied might touch Han Yu’s wounds, so she waited for Han Yu to let go of her himself.

“Han Yu, what are you doing, spouting all this nonsense out of nowhere? I can’t make heads or tails of it, and why? If you keep this up, I’ll be angry. My face is already hurting from your pinch.” Su Wenyue said somewhat angrily, without much authority, sounding like she was coquettishly scolding Han Yu.

“Such a spoiled little thing, with skin like tofu, so soft that even a light pinch leaves a mark,” Han Yu hearing Su Wenyue complain about pain, eased his grip and rubbed the spot for her, as if in admiration.

“You still haven’t explained what just happened. I know you did that on purpose. If you don’t give me a satisfactory answer, I’m moving to the study to sleep tonight!” Su Wenyue huffed, employing a tactic that had proven effective in threatening Han Yu, always working every time.

Alas, this time Han Yu didn’t give in, instead narrowing his eyes, “Who allowed such bad habits, threatening your Husband like this all the time? You’ve really grown some ‘Ability.’ Dare try and see if you can?”
