Chapter 578 - 584: Inexplicable
Rebirth of a Farming Wife
âUncle Wen, youâre here?â Han Yu lay on the bed, smiling as he looked at Liu Xiu and said.
âYouâve just moved in, so I came to check if the environment is good. It looks quite decent here. The courtyard might be small, but itâs rather exquisite. Living here should be very comfortable, at least much better than the conditions in the military camp.â Liu Xiu had observed the surroundings on his way here and glanced around the room before drawing his conclusion.
The corner of Han Yuâs mouth still held a smile, and he seemed to be in particularly good spirits, âIâm not fussy about where I live, anything is fine, men arenât so picky. This place was chosen by My Wife, and indeed, itâs quite nice!â
âTsk tsk, itâs really different with a Daughter-in-law around. Who could have thought our usually cold and stern General Han has changed so much? Those unaware might think youâre a different person. If the brothers in the Camp saw this, theyâd probably be so shocked their eyeballs would fall out!â Liu Xiu teased Han Yu, sweeping his gaze around as he spoke.@@novelbin@@
âBy the way, didnât your younger sister-in-law come to take care of you? Where is she? I havenât seen her since I came in.â Liu Xiu spoke as if casually, but it seemed more like a conventional expression of concern.
These past two days he had barely managed to restrain himself but had finally found an appropriate opportunity to come over today. Apart from caring about Han Yuâs health, his main intent was naturally to meet Su Wenyue and verify the suspicions in his heart. Unexpectedly, he hadnât seen her yet.
âIâve heard your younger sister-in-law is as beautiful as a celestial, one of the top Beauties in Yiyang City. Could it be that you, you jealous man, have hidden her away?! That wonât do. No matter what, I must see just how beautiful she is today, to see what sort of charm she has to keep our General Han so thoroughly smitten; sheâs no simple woman!â Before Han Yu could speak, Liu Xiu was teasing him again.
However, Han Yu sensed something amiss in Liu Xiuâs behavior. Although such teasing was normal and the brothers in the Camp often joked like this, it was different coming from Liu Xiu.
Liu Xiu was a man with a Gentlemanâs demeanor. Though their mutual trust had grown lately, bringing them closer and allowing Liu Xiu to joke occasionally, it was always within limits. Such excessive teasing as today had never happened before.
Han Yu had felt something was off when Liu Xiu didnât ask for his opinion and directly sent word for his Daughter-in-law to come; he hadnât thought much of it at the time, attributing it to Liu Xiuâs concern and eagerness to make amends. But now, it seemed that was not the case. An occurrence once could be a coincidence or unintentional, but twice or three times was definitely intentional.
Han Yu was already on guard inwardly, yet his face bore an even more harmless smile, seemingly oblivious as he mentioned Su Wenyue, his face unconsciously taking on a softer expression, âWeâve just moved in, and many things arenât settled, My Wife has taken some people out to make purchases, and it might take a while before they return. Uncle Wen, if you want to meet her, youâll have to wait until next time.â
Han Yu, who was always cunning on the inside, and particularly since heâd noticed Liu Xiuâs unusual attitude towards his Wife, would not let Liu Xiu meet Su Wenyue. At least not before he fully understood Liu Xiuâs intentions, he wouldnât allow him to meet his Wife.
When had his Wife become entangled with Liu Xiu, prompting him to abandon his long-held principles? That restless little creature, when she returned, he would have to interrogate her thoroughly, daring to become entangled with other men, she really deserved a lesson.
Of course, Han Yu was merely intolerant of his Wife being noticed by other men, hence his reaction, without any suspicion towards Su Wenyue. As for his Wifeâs character, Han Yu had always had great faith in her; she had never been a flirtatious woman. Itâs just that she was too beautiful, always easily catching the eye of others. Sometimes, Han Yu truly wished to hide Su Wenyue away, letting no one see her.
Liu Xiu, unaware that Han Yu had noticed something wrong, and hearing what Han Yu said, knew he would not be able to see her today and, not wanting to raise Han Yuâs suspicion, made a few jokes and didnât mention Su Wenyue anymore.
âI just came over today to see how things are for you here, whether you needed my help. Since youâve already arranged everything and have a Daughter-in-law to take care of you, I wonât stay long and will head back to Camp. Thereâs a lot to do there, and you best rest well.â
Han Yu had a Servant see Liu Xiu out on his behalf.
Once Liu Xiu left the room, the smile on Han Yuâs face disappeared, replaced by a look that was deep, inscrutable, and somewhat menacing.
As soon as Su Wenyue returned from outside and came in, she saw Han Yu looking at her with a smile that wasnât quite a smile, leaving her rather baffled.
âWhatâs going on? Why are you looking at me like that?â Su Wenyue, too lazy to guess and unable to fathom Han Yuâs thoughts at the moment, asked bluntly. After all, she hadnât done anything wrong behind Han Yuâs back and had a clear conscience.
Han Yu didnât speak at first and just pulled Su Wenyue into his arms, causing her to startle repeatedly, âHan Yu, be careful, let go quickly, what if you hurt your wounds?â
While Su Wenyue said this, she didnât dare struggle, for fear that any force she applied might touch Han Yuâs wounds, so she waited for Han Yu to let go of her himself.
But Han Yu clearly had no such intention. Instead, he hugged her even tighter and pinched Su Wenyueâs cheek with a slightly punishing air, âYou really are a troublesome little thing, with such beauty, itâs no wonder you attract so much attention, drawing those annoying flies. What am I to do with you?â
Su Wenyueâs eyes widened as she looked at Han Yu, not understanding what he meant, even more confused by these incomprehensible words he said out of the blue, especially since Han Yuâs pinch on her cheek was not gentle at all, it was quite painful, she suspected her face might have been pinched red, which was truly annoying!
âHan Yu, what are you doing, spouting all this nonsense out of nowhere? I canât make heads or tails of it, and why? If you keep this up, Iâll be angry. My face is already hurting from your pinch.â Su Wenyue said somewhat angrily, without much authority, sounding like she was coquettishly scolding Han Yu.
âSuch a spoiled little thing, with skin like tofu, so soft that even a light pinch leaves a mark,â Han Yu hearing Su Wenyue complain about pain, eased his grip and rubbed the spot for her, as if in admiration.
âYou still havenât explained what just happened. I know you did that on purpose. If you donât give me a satisfactory answer, Iâm moving to the study to sleep tonight!â Su Wenyue huffed, employing a tactic that had proven effective in threatening Han Yu, always working every time.
Alas, this time Han Yu didnât give in, instead narrowing his eyes, âWho allowed such bad habits, threatening your Husband like this all the time? Youâve really grown some âAbility.â Dare try and see if you can?â
