Chapter 4
The Flower That Was Swallowed by the Beast
Chapter 4
Britney couldnât believe what was happening right before her eyes.
âThis is a dream. Yes, this is probably a dream. In reality, Count Green wouldnât propose to that bitch! Besidesâ¦that stupid little girl canât be so confident as to accept the marriage proposal.â
Despite Keivrandâs sudden proposal, Iris wasnât flustered.
She was arrogantly staring at his head as if she knew this would happen.
âYou can raise your head, Count.â
âUntil Miss Iris accepts my proposal, this head will be here.â
âWill you be here forever if I donât accept it?â
âIâll be in this position.â
A light smile formed around Irisâ lips.
âWhat the hell is that? In front of others? Whatâs wrong with her?â
Britney was fuming inside.
Originally, it should have been her in Irisâ position.
So why was it Iris who was exchanging pleasantries with Keivrand?
âCount Green is saying thisâ¦â
Irisâ violet eyes slowly move towards Reuben.
âWhat should I do, father?â
Britney also turned her head and looked at him.
She had no doubt that he would angrily kick Iris out.
âWell, well. Hmmâ¦Count Green likes you very much, so why donât you accept it?â
âWhat do you meanâ¦!â
Britney leapt to her feet.
Reuben grabbed her by the wrist and gave her a stern look.
âYou should leave, Britney.â
âBut father. Iâmâ¦â
She, what could she say?
The man she wanted to have, and the one that everyone coveted, to say that she didnât want Iris to have him?
Or say that she wants to marry him?
Or say that Alfred, a greasy old man, was befitting of Iris?
With an ounce of reason left, she knew she couldnât behave disgracefully in front of Keivrand.
âBritney, leave.â
Reuben said firmly.
Britney looked at him in disbelief, but he avoided her gaze.
She bit her lower lip hard.
There was nothing she could do if she stayed here.
So she decided to quickly leave the room. However, as she passed Keivrand,
âYouâll regret it, Count Green.â
âWell. I donât think so.â
âHmph.â
After Britney left, Reuben spoke.
âCount Green. Iâll allow you to marry Iris, so please come and sit down.â
âI havenât heard from Miss Iris yet.â
âIris, what are you doing, not answering quickly?â
âYes, father. Count Green, I accept your proposal.â
Only then did Keivrand straighten his back.
âIris, I have a long story to share with the Count, so you go out.â
Reuben spoke kindly.
âNo, Duke. I want to be with Miss Iris.â
Kei objected.
âWhat?â
âWeâre a couple whoâll be together in the future, so weâll be together from now on.â
âAhâ¦â
Reuben was shocked.
Is the man in front of him really Count Keivrand Green?
Keivrand Green, who Reuben knows, wasnât a friendly person towards women.
âWill you stay with me, Miss Iris?â
At Keivrandâs request, Iris nodded slightly.
Then, as Keivrand raised his arm towards her, she gently placed her hand on his arm.
The two came to the sofa and sat side by side as if they had been in a long relationship.
âNow letâs talk about the gold mine, Duke.â
Reuben, whose eyes were filled with questions as he looked at Keivrand, quickly changed his demeanor when Keivrand mentioned the gold mine.
âRight, the gold mine.â
Putting aside Keivrandâs status, if he can get that, then nothing else matters.
âIf you sign this contract, the gold mine will belong to Duke Whittle.â
Keivrand said as he opened the document.
âAnd Miss Iris here will be mine.â
âO-okay.â
Reuben rushed to pull the document with a quill, but Keivrand slipped it back.
âIâm heading back to my estate with Miss Iris today.â
âWhat? Today?â
âYes.â
âBut we have to prepare for the wedding. I have a lot of things to teach Irisâ¦â
âMiss Iris is more beautiful and kinder than I had thought, so Iâm afraid Duke will suddenly change his mind and refuse to give his daughter.â
âNo, thatâs never gonna happen. Iâm not someone who goes back on their word, Count.â
âAnd holding hands like thisâ¦â
Keivrand gently laid his hand on Irisâ hand as their arms intertwined.
âI donât want to let go. Iâll bring her with me, Duke.â
Reubenâs eyes shook.
Originally, he was supposed to send Iris away to Alfred when he came today.
In his heart he still wanted Britney to become Count Greenâs wife.
âNo, it doesnât matter if he takes Iris away. That child is obedient anyway, and Count Green has fallen head over heels for her, so Iâll be able to use him well.â
Reuben nodded.
âYes, then letâs do that.â
* * *
Alfred was attacked by suspicious masked men on his way to meet the flower of Duke Whittle, Iris.
The cowardly Alfred had paid a lot of money to hire strong mercenaries.
He had hired the ten best mercenaries from the mercenary guild, but they all had failed to beat three masked men.
Alfred, who has already been stuck in the carriage for hours, glanced out through the small window of his carriage.
There were two masked men, but now that he looked again there was another.
âIs the business done?â
As he listened, he overheard their conversation.
âYeah. Letâs go.â
When one of the masked men walked up to the carriage, Alfred quickly fell against the seat and pretended to faint.
Pak-!
The masked man roughly opened the carriage door and poked Alfredâs thigh with a sword.
âArgh!â
Realizing that he was stabbed in the leg by a sword, Alfred screamed.
âWhatâs wrong?â
Another masked man approached after hearing the commotion.
âI stabbed him a little bit and heâs freaking out. A little coward.â
âOh, letâs go.â
âOkay, okay. Hey, weâre leaving, so be nice from now on. Donât reveal too much about this.â
Long after the masked men had left while giggling, Alfred was still shivering in the carriage.
Arriving at Duke Whittleâs estate as if he was barely conscious, he heard the startling news that Iris had already become the wife of another man.
* * *
As soon as she got on the carriage, Iris lowered her hand that was around Keivrandâs arm.
Keivrand did a lot better than she had expected.
She enjoyed the crumpled face of Britney when Keivrand proposed.
Britney, who was the main character everywhere thanks to her doll-like face, must have felt like a side character for the first time today.
âItâs just the beginning, Britney Whittle.â
In her last life, the dukedom of Duke Whittle had recovered thanks to the Laventâs gold mine they had received from exchanging Iris.
While Iris was unable to die and continued her miserable life, Britney held everything in her hands and tormented Iris until her death.
âIn this life she will not be able to hold a single thing in her hand.â
* * *
Keivrand was silent as they headed for the Greenâs estate.
Iris also had a lot to think about, so she was grateful for the heavy silence in the carriage.
âLady Whittle.â
Coming to her senses from hearing Keivrandâs voice, she found herself standing in the middle of his room.
Because of the sunlight coming through the back window, Keivrand looked like a giant beast.
âYou can call me Irie.â
âAll right, Irie. You can call me Kei.â
âOkay, Kei.â
âFrom today on, you will sleep with me in this room. In the same bed.â
Keivrandâs hand pointed to a big bed.
âI understand.â
âIs that all?â
âWhat else is there?â
He quickly approached her.
As expected, there was a scent of the forest.
âSo you know what it means to share the same bed. Or, you donât know because you grew up as the innocent flower of Duke Whittle?â
Iris grinned.
âIâm not a fool, Kei.â
What a man and a woman do when they sleep together, Iris knows too well.
Some women value such an act very much, but she didnât.
In her last life, and in this life, it made no difference to her.
âThatâs a relief.â
Keivrandâs palm touched her neck. Feeling the heat of his hand, Iris flinched unknowingly.
âItâs not my preference to teach stupid women every little thing.â
Keivrand lowered his head.
His breath grazed Irisâ ear and cheek.
âThe sun hasnât even set yetâ¦â
Iris murmured.
âYou know, Iâm a beastman.â
âOh, thatâs right, youâre a beastmanâ¦â
Iris politely but firmly pushed Keivrandâs face off her neck.
In response to the outright rejection, Keivrand squinted his eyes as if he was having fun.
âCan you show me?â
âWhat?â
âThe beast.â
âYouâll regret it.â
âI donât regret anything.â
âIs that so? If my wife, who I had exchanged for a gold mine, wants to see it, then Iâll have to show it. Back up over there.â
Iris stepped back and headed to a corner. Her heart swelled with anticipation for the scene ahead.
Keivrandâs shadow against the sun began to grow. His back bent, and his face changed its shape.
Shriik-
She heard the ripping of clothes.
After a short period of time, a giant black wolf sat still where Keivrand was.
It was a wolf as tall as Iris even though it was sitting.
The wolf sat like a well-trained dog and didnât even move, as if it was worried that Iris would be scared.
As she waded through the darkness of death, Iris had witnessed the dying breath of this wolf.
The betrayed beast, struggling desperately until the end, had died horribly.
Iris slowly approached the wolf.
She hadnât known before, but there was silver fur on the part of the wolfâs eyebrows.
She carefully reached for the wolfâs snout.
Then, the wolf slowly rubbed its snout against her palm.
âBig.â
âArenât you scared?â
His voice was lower and thicker than when he was in human form.
There was a growl of a beast mixed in.
âCute. Especially these round eyebrows.â
Keivrand wrinkled his nose as his long, sharp canine teeth were revealed.
Instead of being angry, he seemed to be smiling.
âYouâre fearless.â
âThereâs nothing to be afraid of.â
She had already died once.
Keivrand licked her ear and then suddenly returned to his human form.
Iris widened her eyes at the appearance of Kei who had regained his human form.
Looking down at the frozen Iris, Keivrand grinned.
âI told you, youâll regret it.â
She should have expected it when she heard his clothes rip.
Just because he had returned to human form doesnât mean that his clothes that had ripped would be restored.
