Chapter 10
The Flower That Was Swallowed by the Beast
Chapter 10
Many famous scholars have come from the Lutech family.
While the Fernie family were renowned for their artists.
Iris liked the two women.
Elly, who was about the same age as Iris, had red hair, green eyes, and cute freckles on her nose.
And Christina, a married woman with a child, had pitch-black hair and blue eyes.
Elly said it was okay for her to stay in the Greenâs mansion, while Christina said she had to go home two or three times a week because of her child.
âThank you so much for coming, ladies of prestigious families.â
âNo, Countess. Itâs an honor to serve the famous flower of Duke Whittle and be by your side.â
Elly widened her eyes at Christinaâs words.
âThe flower of Duke Whittle? Ah, are you really that Iris?â
Christina poked Elly in the ribs with her elbow.
âAh! Iâm sorry, Countess. I was so surprised that I was rude.â
She quickly bowed her head.
Unlike when she asked if she was really Iris, Ellyâs voice was quite calm.
âYou two must have known each other.â
âYes, Iâve always had a relationship with the Lutech family, so Iâve been interacting with this kid since she was a child.â
Elly kept her mouth shut and Christina replied instead.
âElly doesnât talk much, so Iâd appreciate it if youâd excuse me for answering sometimes, Countess.â
Iris thought what Christina had said was strange.
Elly doesnât talk much?
In Irisâ eyes, Elly was someone who wanted to ask this or that but looked a little down because she couldnât.
However, she didnât bother to point that out.
Since it was their first day, she greeted them and came out of the drawing room. Jamie, who was waiting in front of the drawing room, quickly approached Iris and quietly whispered.
âJuliette is waiting in Miss Irisâ room.â
Iris lightly nodded and told him to show the two who are now her personal maids to their room.
Walking to her room, Irisâ eyes sank coldly.
* * *
Iris had told Jamie that he could rest in his room until instructed after showing Elly and Christina to their room.
As soon as Jamie left, Elly looked at Christina and spoke.
âWow, awesome. Thatâs amazing. Wow, pretty. Awesome.â
âElâ¦â
âNo, itâs really awesome. Wow. Iris, the flower of Duke Whittle. I thought it was an exaggerated rumorâ¦.Wow, sheâs so pretty. I was surprised. Did you see her smile at me? Wow, really. I almost melted. My heart almost stopped.â
Christina breathed a sigh.
âEl, please change your tone. What kind of tone is that for a 25 year old girl? Thatâs why no man is going to take you.â
âOh, stop it. I donât need a man to take me. I donât want to live pretending to be a noble.â
As Elly flopped on the sofa and put her feet on the table, a deep crease formed between Christinaâs eyebrows.
She couldnât believe that such a behavior came from someone who was wearing such a pretty dress.
The elegant Countess might faint if she saw Elly like that.
âElly I donât expect anything else, but Iâm going to ask you just one thing.â
âWhat?â
Elly asked, scratching her head.
âPlease get rid of the horrible thing hidden under that dress!â

As soon as Iris entered her room she found Juliette sitting comfortably on the sofa.
Juliette looked as if she was the master of the room.
She didnât stand up even though she would have heard Iris come in. She just turned her head and stared up at Iris.
Iris walked silently and sat across the sofa, staring at Juliette.
Rich brown hair, white skin, and big green eyes. Her small face and fine features were harmonious.
Her face was as pretty as Britney, so Iris could see where Julietteâs arrogance came from.
Juliette first accepted Irisâ gaze with a smirking look, but when Iris didnât open her mouth, her fingers twitched as if it was unbearable.
In the end, it was Juliette who broke the silence.
âWhy did you call for me?â
âThe Merdi family must have left their home education up to the marketâs beggars because they ran out of money.â
âWhat?â
Juliette raised her eyebrows.
Then her face belatedly flushed when she realized that Iris had criticized her.
Iris observed her and said nothing.
Juliette seemed to want to contradict Iris, but it would be hard to find the words. Itâs a fact that she had been rude to the mistress of this mansion.
She clenched her fists and bit her lower lip. Her hands, which were laid leisurely on her thighs, turned pale.
âShe wants to hit me.â
Iris has already figured Juliette out.
If Juliette was wise, she would have secretly enthralled Keivrand from behind by showing her respect to the mistress of the mansion.
But she was exposing all of her emotions. It was easy to deal with someone like this.
âIf you called me just to say that, then Iâm leaving!â
It wasnât long before Juliette stood up.
Iris kept her eyes straight and spoke quietly but firm.
âSit down, Juliette Merdi.â
Juliette flinched.
Iris still didnât look up at Juliette and was sitting with an aloof air.
No matter how Juliette behaves publicly, Iris was Countess Green.
As long as she was in this mansion and was working as a personal maid, she couldnât ignore Irisâ words.
Juliette sat back down.
Again, Iris didnât open her mouth but just observed Juliette.
âIf you have something to say, say it quickly.â
âJuliette. Youâre my personal maid from today.â
Julietteâs eyes widened.
âWhatâ¦Iâm the Countâs personal maid!â
âNot from today. Youâre my personal maid.â
âHa! No way. I didnât enter this mansion to serve you. Do you think my Merdi family serves you?â
âThen does your family serve the Count?â
âThatâs different.â
âItâs not different. It is said that couples are one body.â
âButâ¦! Itâs a political marriage. I know all about it.â
A light smile flashed across Irisâ lips.
âWhether itâs a marriage for politics or love, I thought you were old enough to know that marriage is marriageâ¦â
Juliette clenched her teeth and spoke.
âI donât think the Count will allow it.â
âWell. I beg to differ.â
Juliette stood up and left the room.
This time, Iris left her alone.
Juliette walked anxiously down the hall. She wanted to scream and let out her anger.
âItâs annoying!â
She hated Irisâ eyes that looked down at her.
She didnât like her unshakable and calm attitude, or the way she spoke. And that beautiful appearance that was even more exaggerated than Duke Whittleâs claims. She hated it all.
âThereâs no way the Count would send me to that woman to be her personal maid.â
Juliette was Keivrandâs only personal maid. And she was the only woman in the mansion who could enter his study room.
Keivrand had told her that whenever she was feeling down that she could freely enter the study room to read books. Even when she pretended not to know that he was in the study room and she entered without asking, Keivrand had never gotten angry.
âThe Count is only generous to me. Iâm different from that woman whoâs only married politically.â
She had no doubt that Keivrand would never send her to be Irisâ personal maid.
This time she couldnât open the door as if she didnât know he was inside. This is because she came here to inform him of Irisâ atrocities.
She took a deep breath with a deep look on her face and knocked on the studyâs door.
âWho is it?â
âCount, itâs Juliette.â
âIâm working.â
âI have something urgent to tell youâ¦â
âI said Iâm working.â
At Keivrandâs stern refusal, Juliette was unable to open the study door and could only stand there.
Then, at some point she found Iris standing next to her.
âKei.â
âThe Count is working.â
At the same time Juliette said so, the studyâs door opened.
Keivrand, who had refused Juliette because of work, opened the door at the first call from Iris.
Juliette couldnât believe the situation and looked up at Keivrand with her eyes wide open.
Keivrandâs grayish-blue eyes were entirely directed at Iris as if Juliette wasnât there.
A light smile appeared on Keivrandâs lips. It was a smile that Juliette had never seen before.
âAre you here to show off your dress, Irie?â
The voice flowing through his red lips was calm and sweet. Juliette had never heard such a voice either.
âDoes it look like that?â
âI thought youâd want to show off how good you looked.â
Keivrand reached out and slightly wrapped the tip of Irisâ hair around his finger before releasing it.
âThe green dress makes you look like an elf standing among the forest.â
âAn elf, really?â
âI just told you. Itâs right in front of me.â
Keivrand and Iris laughed face to face, as if they couldnât have been more entertaining.
Juliette was stunned by the way the two exchanged jokes as if they were the only ones here. However, she couldnât interrupt them and could only bite her lower lip.
âWho is this man?â
The current Keivrand wasnât the Keivrand Green that she knew.
Like an ice castle in the arctic, Keivrand was a cold-hearted man who rarely expressed his feelings. He would sometimes laugh when heâs with his subordinates, but heâs usually silent and has little change in facial expressions.
She couldnât believe that Keivrand was acting like a puppy in the spring breeze next to Iris.
âSo whatâs going on, Irie?â
âI love the ladies Jamie brought in. Elly of the Lutech family and Christina of the Fernie family. I never would have imagined it.â
Juliette has heard of the Lutech and Fernie families.
Having produced numerous scholars and artists, even Viscount Merdi couldnât treat them thoughtlessly.
âBut two maids arenât enough.â
âYes, if you give me time, Iâll look for a family thatâs as good as the Lutech and Fernie.â
âNo. The daughters of such good families arenât necessary.â
Finally, Irisâ eyes turned to Juliette.
Keivrand looked back at Juliette as if he had just noticed her presence.
âThis is enough.â
Juliette would have screamed if it werenât for Keivrand.
Iris spoke as if the Merdi family was lesser than the Lutech and Fernie families while also pointing out that Juliette was worse than Elly and Christina.
Her existence was reduced just like that.
Keivrandâs answer was Julietteâs last hope.
Juliette stared at Keivrandâs lips, hoping that he would refuse.
Keivrand, who glanced back at Juliette, replied casually.
âDo as you please, Irie.â
