CHAPTER 49
Rejecting Azrael | ✔️
Azrael's POV:
After the dinner with Coco's mom, another day passed.
However, I didn't know how much longer I had before my time was up. I needed to do something and fast.
I need to tell Coco about the rejection. But I don't want to pressure her... she still needs time to process everything.
Wouldn't it be selfish of me to ask her to take back the rejection?
I want her feelings for me to be genuine, not because I asked her to take it back.
I groaned, making my decision.
"Hey Coco? I have something really important to tell you."
My mate turns around, smiling. "What is it?"
Just when my words are about to leave me, a throbbing sensation in my head hit me.
Suddenly, I'm overcome with the feeling of pin and needles all over my body. My hands tingled, my vision becoming blurry. It wasn't long before I started to feel my intestines twisting inside and out, as I coughed up blood.
Coco, who was walking ahead of me, started to scream.
"Oh my god, Azrael!"
'I'm sorry... I tried.'
'We're almost there, Xenon. Please. We still have to see her best friend. Rhea is just around the corner, we can make it. Just an hour and we can get the answer we need.'
'We can't.'
Soon enough, I fell to the ground. Just a few feet away from Coco's friend's house. My body started convulsing as I coughed up more blood. Pain was everywhere on my body. Everything I did, even breathing.
The last thing I saw before I went under was my beautiful mate's face.
And honestly, I didn't mind dying then and there because she was the last person I'd see.
And just like that, it was dark.
Coco's POV:
"A-Azrael! What do I do? What's going on?!" I shrieked, wanting to help him.
Running to my mate's side, I tried to shake him. He didn't move a single muscle and was dead silent.
'Mist, what is going on?!' I asked, pleading desperately.
'It's because we rejected him... mate can no longer hold on. He is dying.'
That's when it hit me.
How could I have been so careless? So lost in my own world that I had forgotten about the rejection. I was so happy with Azrael and it slipped that I rejected him right when I found out he was my mate.
'I thought he accepted the rejection already and moved on!'
'No, he is still fighting for us. Waiting for us.'
My mate continued to burn up as his eyes were closed. His fever was dangerously high with his skin becoming a ghostly white. Blood soaked his shirt from the amount he was coughing up previously. I quickly wiped the blood away and used all my strength to carry him up.
Rhea, who was in the house, heard all the commotion outside. She ran out in her PJ's and looked at me in confusion.
"What is going on?" She asked until her eyes laid on Azrael.
I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. I was in sheer shock.
She must have figured it out because her expression changed. "Oh dear god, don't tell me he's suffering from the rejection?!" She yelled, running towards me.
I closed my eyes tightly, biting my lips. "Yes, he's dying. Help me get him to the pack doctor."
"It's too far to get him there. We'll take him inside my house and I'll mind-link and run to get Theo. You stay here with him, got it?"
She came to the other side of Azrael and did her best to help me carry him. Although Rhea was small, she did what she could.
After we got Azrael inside and laid him inside my temporary room, she dashed out the door to get the pack doctor.
It had been awhile since I was in this room. I'm Rhea's nanny but things have been so hectic lately. I still make sure I do what I'm told and I take care of her well.
What was only a few moments, felt like an eternity.
Silence filled the room and I hated it. The only thing I could hear was his harsh breathing. More blood came out as he continued to cough.
All I could do was wipe it away. It made me feel so helpless to help my mate.
If only I didn't reject him, this wouldn't be happening.
Guilt started to swallow me. My heart pounded against my chest as the tears started to flow. I'm about to lose my mate because of my stupidity.
Even though my feelings were valid... I should have given him a chance to explain. Instead of rejecting him then and there.
Getting lost in my thoughts, I didn't realize that Rhea was calling my name.
"Coco, wake up dammit! I got the pack doctor." She said, panting.
Rhea really did run as fast as she could to get him here.
Beside her was a man. He was tall and quite handsome. He was young and honestly, I was wary of how young he was. Doctors are usually older but Theo had an amazing reputation among packs. He was one of the best pack doctors.
'We can trust him.' Mist reassured me.
Rhea soon left the room, claiming that she will get food and refreshments for us. She also said that she didn't want to see anymore blood and I understood that.
The pack doctor, known as Theo, came by my side and examined Azrael. Moments pass and he made his diagnosis.
"Is there a way to take back the rejection, Theo?" I asked the pack doctor.
However, Theo's face looked grim. "There is... but it has to be genuine. You must also combine a pact with one another. If one dies, then the other will follow too. It's almost as both of your life's will be bound together as one. Does this make sense? The Moon Goddess made it this way as a punishment for those who reject their fated mates. To take back a rejection, you have to realize the sacrifice and the punishment."
"Cut the palm of your hand. Next, you will cut his palm as well. Then hold his hand tightly. You will do this as you take back your rejection. Say it how you rejected him, only reversed. Do you understand?"
I nodded, taking a deep breath. Standing over Azrael, I sat down next to him. Theo handed me the blade and I looked away as I sliced my palm. Blood started to form but the cut was closing up fast.
Werewolves do heal fast after all.
Quickly moving onto the next stage, I grabbed Azrael's hand and flipped it over. My heart raced as I sliced his palm.
It made me feel bad that he was losing this much blood but it had to be done.
I quickly held his bleeding hand with my own, remembering what I needed to do. Theo looked at me encouragingly, nodding.
I took this as a cue to start.
"I, Coco Lee, take back my rejection from Azrael Ford. He will be my beta mate and father of my future pups."
Instantly, I felt a humming in the air. A red string started to form in front of me, only visible between Azrael and I. It connected the both of us together as mates.
The bond that was once broken from my rejection started to repair itself.
My life was now his, and his life was now mines. We were now bound for life and if anything were to happen, we would go down together.
Now, the only thing left...
Was to wait for him to wake up.
