Vile Boys: Chapter 61
Vile Boys (Spine Ridge University)
âEveryoneâs staring at us,â Caleb says as we walk through the universityâs hallways.
âIâm enjoying the spotlight,â Blaine says, throwing his hair over his shoulder.
âThis is such a bad idea,â Caleb says, pulling up his hoodie.
âYes, go and hide your face, then,â Blaine jests.
âShut up,â Caleb growls at him.
I snigger.
This day is already going so well. Everyone in the school hallways is staring at us when we walk past, probably wondering why three of the most toxic guys on campus are walking along with me like theyâre some kind of lap dogs. And the fact that Ares actually snarls at anyone who dares to look too long doesnât help either.
Blaine taps Ares on the shoulder, who grips his finger and squeezes so tightly Blaine whimpers.
âOw.â
âDonât touch me,â Ares grits.
âI just wanted to ask if you could please pretend you donât want to kill everyone staring at us.â
Ares releases him. âFine.â
Blaine retracts his finger and pouts. âThat was my good finger.â
âThe one you stick up your own ass?â Caleb snorts.
Blaine throws him a glare. âThe one I use to unlock my katana from my umbrella, the kind of tech you wouldnât know a thing about, you brute.â
Caleb grunts at him, but I stop in the middle of the hallway and they all nearly bump into me.
I spin on my heels and point at them. âStop.â
They all look like they got caught in the act, and Calebâs even blushing underneath that hoodie of his.
âIf you want this to work, you guys gotta stop fighting like that.â
âHe started it,â Caleb snarls.
âWhat?â Blaine scoffs, offended.
âShut it. Both of you,â Ares tells them. âWeâre just going to school. Act normal.â
âNormal?â Blaine laughs in an exaggerated manner. âGood one, darling.â
âIâm serious,â I say. âI canât have people thinking Iâve lost my mind walking around with you three. I just want things to go back to normal.â
Ares suddenly directs his stern gaze to me, making me gulp. âYou will have your normal. But I will not allow you to walk around unguarded.â His gentle caress to my cheeks makes me blush too. âSo go to your classes and we will be by the door waiting when itâs finished to take you to the next.â
He places a kiss on my forehead in front of everyone, unafraid to claim me while the school watches. Part of me is mortified, but another glows with pride.
âNow go on. Get to class, little rose.â
I blush and give him a kiss on the cheek before I turn around and walk off under their searing gaze, as well as pretty much everyone else in this hallway.
Good God.
I head inside for my first class and nearly faint when I see Penelope sitting there with bruises all over her arms. When she looks up, she drops the pen she was holding, and I can barely breathe.
âCrystal?â
She sounds shocked, and I donât know how to react as I approach.
âIs that you?â She looks like sheâs seen a ghost, and suddenly gets up and hugs me tight. âOh my God, it really is you. I was so worried about you. Are you hurt?â She immediately pushes me away and inspects me.
âIâm fine,â I mutter. âAt least, physically. Iâm still a little shaken up from what happened.â
âHow did you even get out of the Bonesmen grasp?â she asks. âFelix and I looked everywhere for you. We even scoured all the Bones Brotherhood locations we knew about.â
âI was taken to a different compound where they tried to sell me again. Luckily, the guys from the Tartarus House found me.â
âCaleb?â she asks. âOh wow, Iâm impressed he managed to find you.â
I nod. âAnd Blaine and Ares too.â
She hugs me again, and I sink into her chest, breathing out a sigh of relief. âIâm so glad youâre okay. We were all worried sick. I didnât even know you were in there. No one did. We went into the first compound to get Lana out together with the Phantom Society boys, but then we lost you, and I couldnât get to the van in time â¦â she says, lowering her brows in shame. âIâm sorry. Iâm sorry I wasnât there in time to save you.â
âItâs okay,â I say, rubbing her back. âIâm here. Iâm safe. Iâm not going anywhere. At least not without screaming at the top of my lungs.â
She sniggers. âWhen Caleb said he was going to ask his boys for help, I didnât expect him to actually come through.â
I make a face. I donât think she knows the full truth. âYeah ⦠about that â¦â I squeak. âWeâre actually kind of, sort of, dating?â
âWhat?!â
I cover her mouth so no one hears her scream.
âDonât make a scene, please. They already hate that everyone is looking.â
Her eyes widen. âThey?â
Oh God.
âAre you telling me youâre dating multiple Tartarus boys?â
âUhh ⦠I plead the Fifth?â
The blush on my cheeks apparently gives it all away, and she grabs me and shoves me back and forth like a crazy person. âOh my God, Crystal! A foursome?â
âShhh â¦â I murmur, looking around. âItâs hard on them.â
âRight, right, I get it,â she says, winking. âIs the sex good? They say the boys from Tartarus are like hedonistic fuck toys.â
âDonât embarrass me. Iâm already mortified.â
âBut itâs so much fun,â she jests, and she pulls me in for another hug. âBut Iâm so glad youâre back, girl.â
âWhat did I miss?â
Kaylaâs voice makes me look up. She just walked into class, which is about to start, and the look on her face immediately goes blank the moment she sees me sitting in one of the benches.
âOh my ⦠God.â
She throws herself into my arms, practically smothering me. âCrystal! Youâre back! Iâve missed you so damn much.â
âIt was only a couple of days,â I say.
âYeah, yeah, I know. Mini family vacation,â she says, rolling her eyes, which confuses me. I stare at Penelope, who just shrugs and touches her lips like she doesnât want me to tell Kayla the truth.
I guess Kayla is not aware of all the things that go on around this campus. Maybe itâs better this way. Wouldnât want her to get dragged in too.
âItâs not the same here without you,â she says.
âI missed you too,â I say. âBut youâre killing my back.â
She laughs and leans away. âSorry, girl. You look scrawny, though. Did your mom feed you well?â
I rub my lips together. âNo, she was far too busy with her new boyfriend, so I was the one doing most of the cooking,â I lie.
âOh, is it that same guy we saw last time at Fiâs Cups and Cakes?â she asks.
I nod. âYup. Calebâs dad. Awkward.â
âOh wow â¦â Penelope says with owl-like eyes, and it makes me want to hide underneath the table. âThat is messed up.â
The teacher begins his class, and we sit and listen, but Penelope still texts me.
Penelope: I want to talk with those guys. Ares, Blaine, Caleb. I just want to make sure they have good intentions with you. Do you have their number?
Me: Please donât ask. I donât want you dead too.
Penelope: They canât kill me that easily. Besides, Iâve got Felix, Alistair, and Dylan to back me up.
Me: Okay ⦠if youâre sure about this. But donât blame me if they end up killing each other.
Penelope: Do you care about them?
It takes me a few seconds to respond.
Me: Yes.
Penelope: A lot?
Me: Like a lot, a lot.
She smiles at me before she continues typing.
Penelope: I donât judge. I remember that feeling from when I first got together with the Skull & Serpent Society guys. I just want you to be safe. Youâre my friend.
Me: I know. I trust you.
Penelope: Good. Because I think itâs already making rounds at school.
She lifts her phone and shows the group chat for our class, which is filled with responses and comments to a picture that was shared. A picture of me kissing Ares while Caleb and Blaine happily stand behind us.
Oh God.
Me: Nathanâs going to try to kill them, isnât he?
Penelope: 99/100 chance.
Blaine
When she finally gets out of class, my heart begins to race with excitement.
My beautiful, darling Crystal so content to finally make it back to her college education like a normal girl even though sheâs far from it after what sheâs endured.
Of all the joys in life, this is what makes her happy?
I snigger to myself.
âHow was it?â I ask.
âGood,â she replies. âWhy are you all acting like you donât go to this school too?â
âWe do, but we donât enjoy it like you do,â I muse.
âDid you learn anything?â Caleb raises his brow. âI saw a ton of texts flying by in the group chat.â
She tucks her hair behind her ear. âA little bit. Itâs just good that I can finally go back to semi-normal.â
âWhatever that is,â Caleb growls.
âIâm guessing you guys saw the texts about us?â she asks.
Oh, we all definitely saw, and I donât mind one bit. Let the world know I love her, I donât care, not even the slightest, as long as sheâs mine.
Ares sighs out loud and turns around, walking off. âDonât want to talk about it.â
Party pooper.
âOh â¦â She follows him, clutching her bag, but when Ares glances at her over his shoulder, she stops and gazes up at him with doe-like eyes.
âWhat they say has no influence whatsoever over my feelings for you. None.â
Her whole face turns red, and oh my God, I am living for this literal real-life romance novel.
None of the books could ever come close to this.
She gulps and murmurs, âMe too.â
âWhatâs that? You have feelings for us?â I lean over her shoulder to look into her eyes, and she nearly squeals like she forgot I was there.
âJesus, donât scare me like that.â
Caleb bursts out into laughter, and it irritates me. âDonât make me pull out myââ
âSword?â Caleb interjects.
Now heâs really ruined my good mood.
âItâs a katana, you seventh-century swine,â I retort.
Caleb narrows his eyes at me. âOink, oink, motherfucker.â And he sticks up his middle finger.
What theâ
âIf you donât stop, Iâll have you both fucking each otherâs assholes tonight,â Ares growls.
âFine, fine, although ⦠I wouldnât be opposed to that,â I say, winking. âI was just saying, Iâm happy sheâs content. This is what I wanted.â
âWhat you wanted?â she parrots like she canât believe it.
âOf course, darling.â I grab her hand and kiss the top as I always do, instilling my love for her with my lips. Sheâs like a precious jewel I want to cherish. âI never thought youâd actually fall for these violent boys, but I am glad it led you straight into my arms.â
Crystal
We head outside to the fountain, where Nathan, Kai, Milo, and Lana all sit on the stone edge, smoking.
âWait here,â I tell my boys.
âAre you sure?â Caleb says, narrowing his eyes at Nathan like heâs got a beef.
âYeah, Iâm safe with them. Donât worry,â I reply.
âWeâll keep an eye on you to make sure,â Ares says.
âGood luck, my little diamond in the rough,â Blaine says, squeezing my cheek like Iâm some kind of chipmunk before I walk toward the fountain.
But every step I take feels more and more unreal.
âLana?â I mutter when I see her throw her black hair over her shoulder.
Her body freezes at the sound of my voice. Her eyes are as wide as can be when they finally find mine.
âCrystal?â she mutters in disbelief.
She jumps off the fountain, runs across the pebbles, and throws her arms around me. âI canât believe youâre here and that youâre safe. How did you even get out?â
âLong story, but ⦠the guys from the Tartarus House got me out of that hellhole,â I say, sighing because I really donât want to think about my time there. âAres, Caleb, and Blaine were there to save me,â I say. âAnyway, I just wanted to say Iâm sorry. Itâs my fault those picturesââ
âI donât want to hear it.â She interjects. âIâm not mad at you. Iâve made peace with it. I donât blame you, and I donât want you to feel guilty. In fact, Iâm the one who should feel guilty for leaving you all alone in that Bonesmen den.â She hugs me even tighter. âIâm sorry. They were after me and then took you too as collateral damage.â
My eyes tear up, but I swallow them away. âThank you.â I lean away. âBut why were they after you in the first place?â
She takes one glance over her shoulders at the three boys standing there, watching us, and Kaiâs penetrative stare makes me gulp.
âThem?â I whisper.
She nods and smiles.
âSo ⦠those fuckers actually managed to find you?â Nathan chucks his smoke into the fountain. âIâm impressed.â
I unfurl myself from Lanaâs embrace and run to him, hugging him tight.
âIâm glad youâre safe, Crystal,â he says. âI just wish I got there in time to save you too when we got Lana out.â He leans away and grabs my shoulders to take a good look at me. âDid they hurt you?â
I shake my head. âOne of them hit me, butââ
âRemind me to cut off some extra fingers the next time I come across any of those Bonesmen,â Nathan hisses at Milo behind him.
âOooh ⦠I love it when you get all aggressive,â Milo says.
âIâm okay,â I say, placing my hand on top of his. âI donât want you to get into more trouble because of me.â
âDonât worry about me. So what happened after you got taken away in that van?â he asks.
âThe Bones Brotherhood tried to sell me to some rich men, but Ares, Caleb, and Blaine got to me before they succeeded.â
âAres?â Kai raises a brow and chucks his smoke away too. âInteresting.â
âIs it that strange?â I say, feeling brave. âYou wanted to save Lana too. Brothers think alike.â
âBrothers?â Lanaâs eyes almost bulge out of her skull. âAres is your brother?â
Kai shrugs.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â
Oh boy. I did not realize what I was about to unchain by saying that out loud.
âDidnât think it was necessary. We donât see eye to eye.â
âThatâs an understatement,â I say.
Kai and Ares make eye contact, but Ares immediately looks the other way and pulls out a smoke instead.
âWe have our issues. Just like any other family,â Kai says. âI donât like to talk about mine, however.â Kai turns around and yells at Ares, âAres. Explain to me why you wouldnât help us find Lana, yet you happily assisted in finding Crystal, a girl you donât even know.â
Ares, Caleb, and Blaine walk toward us like they finally feel invited to join the conversation.
âWho says he doesnât know her?â Blaine says.
Kai frowns. âHow?â
âYou think youâre the only one whoâs been fucking around?â Caleb retorts, tilting his head.
Nathanâs eyes widen. âYouâve been fucking Crystal?â
Oh boy.
âWhat the fââ Lana glances my way. âSeriously?â
âHoly shit,â Milo muses.
I hide my face in my hands. âThis is not how I imagined this would go.â
âOh my God,â Lana says. âSo itâs true? Youâre dating Ares?â
My whole face turns red. âDating is a complicated word.â
Ares folds his arms, staring at them all with contempt. âSheâs mine.â
Milo fans himself. âWhen you put it like that, I understand.â
âReally?â Nathan scoffs at him. âSheâs my friend. She should not be dating any of those guys.â
A smug grin spreads on Calebâs face. âTough luck for you then, because she wants all three of us.â
âJesus Christ,â Kai says, rolling his eyes. âYouâve been busy.â
âSo a foursome, huh?â Milo says. âGuess weâre all banging like crazy.â
Nathan smacks him on the head with a packet of cigarettes.
âItâs not like that. We just ⦠stumbled into it,â I say, trying to tone it down.
âUh-huh,â Milo responds.
Nathan jumps off the fountain. âI never gave you permission to go ahead and jump in bed with my goddamn friend, Caleb.â
âI donât need your permission to fuck who I want,â Caleb retorts.
Nathan grabs Caleb by the collar. âGive me one good reason not to punch your teeth out.â
âGuys, guys.â I shove my way between them. âPlease stop.â
âAnd all this time, I thought you just wanted to get back in my pants,â Nathan grits.
âI never said that. I said I missed you as a friend,â Caleb replies.
âWhatever,â Nathan says.
Ares steps up and points a finger at Nathan. âYou touch Caleb again, and Iâll kill you right here, right now.â
âPossessive,â Milo hums. âI love it.â
âCan we stop fighting, please?â I ask, placing a hand on Aresâs chest to calm him down. âI donât want more bloodshed.â
His nostrils flare, but he finally backs away. âOnly because he is your friend.â
âSo you three have been doing this behind everyoneâs backs?â Lana asks, narrowing her eyes like she canât believe what sheâs hearing.
âI could say the same for you,â I retort, smiling.
She rolls her eyes but smiles anyway. âI guess youâre right.â
âGuess everyone here is lucky,â Milo says, grinning like a bastard. âYou get a foursome, we get a foursome, everyone gets a foursome!â
I just stare at them for a moment before I burst out into laughter eventually.
Itâs all so ridiculous that itâs starting to make sense in a weird way.
Suddenly, Calebâs phone rings, and he turns away to answer it.
âYeah, Dad?â His voice begins to tremble. âWhat?â
He suddenly goes down on both hands and knees, still clutching the phone. A scream unlike anything else decimates all happiness from my heart.
I immediately run to him and place a hand on his shoulder. âWhat happened?â
Ares marches to him and goes to his knees in front of him, gripping his face to make him look at him. âTell me.â
âMy mom ⦠is dead.â
