Chapter 719 A Misunderstanding
A Crazy Night Novel
The medical team soon arrived in haste. They had to check Timothyâs condition thoroughly, so Christina had to leave the ward and wait outside anxiously.
âMrs. Hadley, why donât you take a seat and try to relax for a moment?â Lyle suggested in a gentle tone after noting Christinaâs unsettled emotions. âThe doctors are currently examining Mr. Gibson, and it may take some time for the results to be available.
Do you need water or food? I can get someone to buy some for you.
Christina was completely focused on Timothyâs well-being and couldnât pay attention to anything else.
Shaking her head, she replied, âNo need for that. Iâm not hungry or thirsty. If you need to grab a bite, go ahead. Iâll be fine alone.â
âIf you need me, just let me know.â Lyle remained by Christinaâs side silently, keeping her company until the results came out.
The exantination went on for over an hour. Timothy remained unconscious, showing no signs of stirring despite the doctorsâ
efforts to rouse him. It felt like Christina had imagined his fingers twitching earlier.
âMrs, Hadley, please remain patient. I have confidence that Mr. Gibson will regain consciousness soon,âââ the attending physician reassured Christina calmly.
He left with his team after giving Christina some medical advice.
Christina remained in the ward until evening.
Nathaniel left work earlier than usual, eager to spend some quality time alone with Christina at home. However, upon arriving home, he was greeted by Raymond, who informed him that Christina had not yet returned.
A sense of unease washed over Nathaniel as his attempts to reach her went unanswered. He was on the verge of mobilizing a search team to find her when a timely call from Lyle came in, halting his actions.
Nathaniel immediately made his way to Timothyâs ward. Christina could barely hide her surprise when he showed up.
âNathaniel? Why are you here?â
After confirming that she was safe and sound, Nathaniel did his best to tamp down his irritation. âI didnât see you at home after getting off work earlier than usual, and Raymond told me youâve been out the whole day. I was worried and decided to come over to visit you and Dad,â he said gently.
Christina belatedly realized she had been in the hospital for way too long. She shot him an apologetic look. âIâm sorry. It completely slipped my mind how much time had passed. I had my phone on silent mode since I was at the hospital, and I failed to notice your calls. You mustâve been worried sick.â
âItâs fine. Just take note next time.â Nathaniel went over to her and glanced at Timothy. âI heard the doctor say Dad should regain consciousness these few days and that he showed signs of waking today.â
âThatâs right. He can understand us.â Christina eagerly shared the good news with him. âIâve arranged a place for him to stay in after he gets discharged from the hospital. I hope heâll like it.â
Nathaniel assured her, âDad will love anything you prepare for him.â
âMm.â Tears welled up in Christinaâs eyes.
Nathaniel kept Christina company in the ward for over half an hour before they left the hospital together.
The moment the door clicked shut behind them, Timothyâs fingers twitched, and he slowly opened his eyes.
The following morning, Christina was woken up by a call from the hospital before the sun was up.
âWhat? My father is missing?â Christinaâs body froze as if struck by lightning upon hearing the nurseâs words. It took her a moment to collect herself, and her voice grew icy. âWhen did you realize he was missing?â
The nurse replied nervously, âMr. Gibson was still in his bed when we did our midnight rounds. Around six in the morning, the caregiver noticed that the door to his ward was open and went in to check on him. That was when we discovered he was missing Christina was wide awake by now. âDid you search the other areas of the hospital?â
âYes, we did. After reviewing the surveillance footage in the security room, we discovered that Mr. Gibson left his ward on his own accord. Given his current condition, he shouldnât be leaving the hospital. Ms. Steele, did Mr. Gibson happen to come to you?â
Christina was Timothyâs only relative in Jadeborough. She couldnât help but wonder where he would go after leaving the hospital alone.
Weighed down by worry, Christina had no answer for the nurse.
Nathaniel took charge of the situation, taking Christinaâs phone and ending the call on her behalf. âDonât worry. Dad is an adult, and he must have a reason to leave the hospital in his weakened state. I will send my men to search for him, and we will receive updates soon.â
Christina clutched his wrist anxiously. âNathaniel, my dadâs health is fragile, especially with his leg condition. Heâs not familiar with Jadeborough, and Iâm worried about him.â
She pulled the covers open to get out of bed when Nathaniel grabbed her arm.
-Where are you going?â
âI want to search for him.â
âItâs freezing outside. Christina, youâre pregnant. How could you head out to search for him? Have you ever thought about me?â
Nathaniel exclaimed.
He had always gone to great lengths to take care of Christina, ensuring her safety and well-being.
The thought of her jeopardizing her and the health of their unborn child infuriated him.
Christina hesitated. âNathaniel, Iâm just worried about him. Heâs my only surviving relative in the world.â
Nathaniel couldnât bring himself to be angry with her. Instead, he gently pulled her back to the bed, covering her legs with the warm covers.
Jadeborough is my territory, and I have the means to locate someone easily. Trust me when I say that nothing will happen to him. Be good and stay here to wait for news.â
After Nathaniel gave her his word repeatedly, Christina reluctantly agreed to stay at home to wait for any updates.
Nathaniel instructed the kitchen to deliver a nourishing breakfast to their room so he could make sure Christina ate her breakfast.
Despite her worries, she forced herself to consume at least half of the breakfast. Soon, Sebastian came bearing good news.
It turned out that Timothy had gone to the detention center to meet Nigel alone!
Christina and Nathaniel arrived just in time to witness Timothy emerging from the detention center.
âWhy did you come here alone? Iâve been searching for you everywhere!â Christina suppressed her fear and hurried over to Timothy. âYou look pale. Why donât I drive you back to the hospital?â
Timothy was wearing a down jacket that Sebastian had offered him earlier. He took Christinaâs hand and patted the back of it.
âIâm fine, so donât worry. Letâs talk about this when we get back. Iâm sorry for leaving without saying anything. You and Mr. Hadley mustâve been worried,â he explained, realizing he had underestimated how important he was to Christina.
âIâm glad youâre fine. Letâs head back to the hospital right now. If you want to go anywhere, just let me know beforehand instead of leaving without telling anyone. Iâll arrange for someone to drive you wherever you need to go,â Christina said, her voice quivering as she fought back tears. âIf something were to happen to you, I wouldnât be able to face Mom in heaven.
