Chapter Chapter 713 He Is Your Only Son
A Crazy Night Novel
Nathaniel knitted his brows. âSome of the assets overseas Yerek inherited from Nigel are nothing more than shell companies. It seems that both Yerek and we were deceived by Nigel,â
âWhat? Why would Nigel do that?â Christina exclaimed. Nigelâs locked up in prison, and yet he went through all this trouble to set up this scheme? How on earth did he pull it off while being stuck behind bars?
âNigelâs ultimate goal is to become the head of Gibson Corporation, but he lacks the capability to achieve it. However, itâs a different story for Yerek, who is now a free man. The fact that Yerek managed to find a reliable person he could count on in just a little over a month indicates that he must have had someone guide him behind the scenes.â
Christina went deep in thought. Who could that be? Anya is dead, and Mrs. Lazuli doesnât seem capable of orchestrating such a plan. Even Emilia has vanished without a trace. At this point, the only person Yerek could count on is Barnaby, âCould Barnaby be the person who offered Yerek guidance?â Christina made a wild guess.
âSheridan still holds sway in the Stone family, so Barnaby wouldnât dare to make any reckless moves. With Sheridanâs absolute power in the family, no one in their right mind would dare to challenge him.â
As the primary suspect was eliminated, Christina found herself trapped once again in a deadlock of thoughts.
She could not afford to sit idly by. After much hesitation, she said earnestly, âI want to meet Nigel.â
Since she could not find any clues from Yerek, she thought it best to shift her focus to Nigel instead.
Nathaniel knew nothing would hold Christina back. âTell me when youâd like to meet him. Iâll get someone to make the necessary arrangements.
âLetâs schedule it for tomorrow morning. Letâs get it done and over with.â
Christina had thought she could avoid any contact with Nigel as long as she chose to ignore any updates or information about him.
However, that was all wishful thinking on her part.
The next morning. Lyle accompanied Christina to the prison to pay Nigel a visit.
In just a short span of half a month, the experience of imprisonment had eroded Nigelâs once proud demeanor and determination. His jetâblack hair had turned silver, and his face bore the weight of weariness and hardships. His onceâsharp eyes were robbed of their vitality, leaving them dull and lifeless.
Nigelâs eyes darted stiffly from side to side, devoid of expression. He lifted his gaze to see the striking Christina seated before him. The malicious smile that tugged at the corners of his lips could send shivers down anyoneâs spine.
Separated by a thick pane of glass, Christina remained unfazed.
âNigel, itâs been a while. It appears that prison life hasnât been too kind to you,â Christina said with a subtle grin. âOn the bright side, you should be grateful that your charges are limited to financial crimes. Anyway, Iâll work doubly hard to make sure your stay behind bars is prolonged.â
Nigelâs facial muscles twitched, and his gaze turned dark and cold. âChristina, did you come here today just to rub it in my face?â
âOh, certainly not. Iâm here specifically to seek your guidance. Iâm genuinely curious about how you were able to covertly transfer Gibson Corporationâs assets overseas and subsequently erase any trace of it. I find it intriguing how you left no evidence behind,â Christina said, her eyes fixed on Nigelâs, afraid of missing even the slightest clue.
âI have no idea what youâre talking about,â Nigel responded calmly, âYouâve successfully taken control of Gibson Corporation, and you know better than anyone what assets I had. Now Iâm just an incompetent prisoner. Whatever charges you want to pin on me.
Iâll accept my fate.â
Nigel was confident that Christina did not have any evidence in her hands. Otherwise, she would not have come specifically to engage him in this conversation.
Like a solitary wanderer, he remained calm and unperturbed, impervious to any provocation.
âDo you know Anya is dead?â Christina suddenly changed the subject, calmly delivering that tragic piece of news. âShe was trapped in a car in a fire and burned alive. The culprit remains at large, and the case has made little progress. I wonder, could Yerek be the next target of the killer? Oh, no. Heâs your only son, isnât he Bang!
Nigel furiously slammed the table with his fists, his body hunched over, and his eyes burning with intense anger. He looked daggers at Christina, his demeanor resembling a provoked beast trapped in confinement Unfazed by Nigelâs display of anger, Christina remained composed and continued, âAmong the assets you secretly moved overseas over the years, thereâs a portion that rightfully belongs to my father. You might have thought that by changing ownership, I would be left powerless. But let me assure you thatâs not the case. As for Yerek, his situation isnât looking too promising either. I believe there are forces at work that will deal with him without my interference. Yerekâs fate will be far more devastating than Anyaâs. You may be counting on Barnaby to turn the tables, but unfortunately, when they learned about your imprisonment, the Stone family, in order to distance themselves, publicly denied acknowledging your identity. Yerek is fighting a battle on his own, surrounded by enemies from all sides. How long do you think he can hold on?â
Veins bulged on Nigelâs forehead, a clear sign that he was struggling to contain an inner turmoil.
The two of them remained locked in a stalemate, with Christina appearing calm and composed, patiently waiting for Nigel to take the initiative and discuss their terms.
Nigel gritted his teeth. âChristina Steele, youâre despicable!â
Christina responded with a gentle smile, âIâll never be as despicable as you.â She deliberately glanced at her watch. âVisiting hours are almost over. Iâll give us this one chance to cooperate, and I suppose you wouldnât have agreed to meet me if you didnât have your own agenda in mind.â
Nigel wrestled with his thoughts, engaged in an internal battle.
He licked his chapped lips and confessed, âRegarding the incident that occurred fifteen years ago..... I believe you should have discovered the involvement of Hendrick and David Labarge. Yes, I conspired with them. The Labarge cousins assisted me with the transfer of assets, and I provided them with the initial capital to start their own company.
Suddenly, a realization struck Christina. âSo, the rumors about your supposed falling out with Winston over Raveworks Enterprise were just a staged act?â
Upon witnessing the shock in Christinaâs eyes, Nigel could not help but feel a sense of satisfaction wash over him. A glimmer of triumph gleamed in his dim eyes.
âHendrick is a man driven by greed and ambition. Give him the slightest hint of hope, and he would risk his life to take a gamble.
We considered numerous scenarios for our plans, but we never expected that I would end up in prison so soon.â Nigelâs expression contorted. âYou mentioned earlier that the assets I transferred to Yerek were emptied. It must be the work of Hendrick and David. They must have done it, thinking my days are over.â
The very weapon Nigel had wielded with the most power fifteen years ago had eventually turned against him. What a ruthless move With nothing holding him back, Nigel made the decision to expose everything. If Iâm destined for hell, Iâll make sure to drag them down with me!
Nigelâs voice took on a resolute tone. âI reckon what I just said should be enough for you to spare Yerckâs life, Christina. So, you better keep your promise, or I wonât spare you even in death!â
