Chapter 692 A Joke
A Crazy Night Novel
If Christinaâs guess was true, it meant that Anya was in a perilous situation.
Christina knew that although she had pressured Anya into revealing part of the truth, it was crucial to conduct a thorough investigation to confirm the validity of Anyaâs words.
Before the entire truth was unveiled, Christina would never stop in her mission of taking revenge on Nigelâs family.
Anyaâs involvement in Christinaâs revenge plan was just a piece of the puzzle. Christina intended to utilize Anya as a means to send a clear warning to all those who were involved.
âNathaniel, I want to recuperate at home. I feel too lonely at the hospital,â Christina whined as she snuggled into Nathanielâs embrace. Afraid he would say no, she quickly gave another suggestion. âOr I can transfer to my fatherâs hospital to spend more time with him.â
âYour father is receiving excellent care from the medical team and caregiver. Donât worry about him,â Nathaniel assured her.
âStay for another night. Tomorrow morning, Iâll get the doctor to give you a thorough checkup tomorrow. If all goes well, you can return home to recover.â
They remained in the dark as to whether Anya was still alive, or if her accident was related to Yerek.
Despite Nathaniel assigning a dedicated bodyguard to ensure Christinaâs safety, he knew there was always a possibility of lapses. The hospitalâs security system wasnât as tight as Scenic Garden Manorâs security system.
Therefore, when Christina expressed her desire to recover at home, Nathaniel eagerly seized the opportunity. That was exactly what he wanted as well.
âOkay. That sounds great,â Christina agreed readily.
Half an hour later, Sebastian showed up at the ward with takeaway food.
Christina didnât have an appetite today and only finished half of her burrito. Nathaniel snapped up the rest.
He grew increasingly worried, but he hid his concern to avoid adding to Christinaâs stress.
After making sure she was asleep, he walked out of her ward, where Sebastian had been waiting outside for some time.
âLetâs talk elsewhere.â
Nathaniel led Sebastian to the rooftop. After he lit up a cigarette, something occurred to him, and he removed the cigarette from his lips in frustration, holding it between his fingers.
âHow is the investigation going?â Nathaniel asked.
âOur operative who was tailing Yerek shared the information that he was out of town on a business trip before and after the incident. His last visit to Jadeborough was on the day of the international conference,â Sebastian informed. âFollowing the conference, he flew to another state to meet with clients, and he has yet to return to Hallsbay or make any subsequent visits to Jadeborough. It has been seven days since Yerek last contacted Anya. There are rumors circulating that they are currently in a dispute over the distribution of assets.â
Yerek and Anya were bound to be engaged in a conflict. After all, Nigel had secretly transferred his assets to Yerek without the knowledge of his wife and daughter, leaving Anya and Macy with nothing but accumulating debts.
âSpread the news I told you to gather earlier. Make sure that Anya and Yerck are not given an opportunity to make another move,â Nathaniel commanded coldly Yerckâs aspirations of rebuilding the company that Nigel had painstakingly established were nothing but a mere fantasy at present.
Once Anya discovered the backup plan that Nigel had devised for Yerek, she would undoubtedly make a scene, consequently weakening Yerekâs financial capabilities.
That way, it would be easier for Christina to deal with Yerek.
The most effective strategy to bring down oneâs enemy was to instigate discord among them, causing them to turn against each other.
âYes. Iâll get that done right away,â Sebastian replied.
Nathaniel then listened to Sebastianâs work reports before making his way back to the ward. He shrugged out of his suit jacket and lay down behind Christina.
Christina caught a whiff of his scent and moved closer, her voice groggy. âWhere have you been? Youâre freezing.â
Nathaniel reached for the blanket and wrapped it tightly around Christina. He spoke softly. âI stepped out to take a phone call. Go back to sleep. Iâll adjust the heater to make it warmer.â
Christina let out a soft moan and nuzzled against Nathanielâs neck. Finding a comfortable position, she quickly drifted off to sleep.
Nathaniel retrieved the remote control to increase the temperature of the heater before planting a kiss on the top of her head.
âChristina, Iâll make sure all your wishes come true.â
That very night, a sleek black car came to a halt in front of an upscale condominium. The rear door swung open, and Emilia emerged with the assistance of her assistant.
âI donât want to go home. I want to keep drinking,â mumbled Emilia as she leaned on her assistant for support. They stumbled into the condominium, with Emiliaâs words slurring slightly. âIâIâll make a comeback soon. No one can stop me from turning the tables.â
âEmilia, youâre drunk,â her assistant reminded her softly. âMelissa asked me to take you home. Which floor is your house on?â
Emilia shot a sideways glance at her assistant before abruptly shoving her away. Pointing an accusatory finger, she chided, âYouâre here to gloat at my misfortune, too, donât you? Well, itâs not going to happen!â
Her loud voice echoed through the quiet surroundings. âChristina canât ruin my reputation!â
She patted her chest confidently and continued with a smug tone, âChristina and I have been rivals for years, and she used to be no match for me. If it werenât for her luck in marrying a wealthy and influential man, she wouldnât have gained control over both the Steele and Gibson families!â
One of the tenants shouted furiously at them from above, clearly annoyed by the commotion. Worried that Emiliaâs behavior would make headlines the next day, the assistant reluctantly attempted to appease her.
âYouâre absolutely right,â she hurriedly agreed, supporting Emilia. âMelissa assured me that once the rumors have subsided, she will speak to the company on your behalf to facilitate your comeback.â
Pleased, Emilia patted the assistantâs face forcefully. âHa! When I make a comeback, I wonât forget to reward you. When my contract with Melissaâends, Iâll promote you to be my manager.â
The assistant couldnât help but scoff inwardly. It was common knowledge in the entertainment industry that Emiliaâs chances of making a comeback were slim to none after offending such a powerful individual.
Despite Emiliaâs attempts to cozy up to influential figures at numerous social gatherings, she couldnât even secure any minor roles in web dramas.
No one was willing to risk their own reputation or safety to assist Emilia. However, the assistant chose to remain in her position because Melissa had promised a substantial reward for monitoring Emiliaâs every move.
After finding the access card in Emiliaâs bag, the assistant unlocked the glass door and helped Emilia into the lobby.
Emilia was quiet as they waited for the elevator to arrive.
A sudden chill ran down Emiliaâs spine, momentarily sobering her up.
Fear coursed through her veins, overpowering her heart.
She whirled around to look beyond the lobby. Right then, her assistant told her to enter the elevator.
As though she had seen something strange, Emilia dashed into the elevator, her movements reminiscent of a startled cat.
Her assistant gave her a surprised look. âWhatâs wrong, Emilia?â
