Chapter 578 Strangled In Hospital
A Crazy Night Novel
Mounia is dead? That news was so shocking that Christina didnât return to her senses until some time later.
The fruits on her plate abruptly appeared unappetizing as she settled the plate on the bedside table. âHow did she die?â Itâs only been a few hours since we last met I never wanted her to die!
âSebastian extracted some valuable information from her before sending her home per the agreement. Half an hour later, he received news that there was a fire at the rented house Miranda was staying in.â Sitting on the side of the table, Nathaniel continued, âShe was burned alive inside. Before the fire broke out, the doors and windows were locked from the inside.
Furthermore, she sent one last message to Emilia before she passed. Hence, the policeâs initial speculation is that she committed suicide.â
âThereâs no way Miranda would kill herself,â asserted Christina Miranda didnât yield when she was forced to live in difficult conditions after the Steele family went bankrupt. Besides, she loves Emilia who is still trapped in prison the most. I doubt sheâll end her life before ensuring Emilia leaves prison safely Nathaniel shared the same thought as Christina. Something fishyâs going on, and discovering the truth wonât be easy. If possible.
I want to avoid having Christina involved in this mess.
âSebastian is a man with principles. He didnât utilize violence when interrogating Miranda. The video of Emiliaâs abuse he showed to her as a means of convincing her to spill the truth was just an act. He hired people to produce that video,â informed Nathaniel in a deep voice. âAccording to Miranda, someone deposited a stack of cash and a letter under her door. The letter instructed her to cause your mom trouble, indirectly forcing you to release Emiliaâ
In response, Christina knitted her eyebrow.
âUnfortunately, on the day Miranda met your mother, she spotted Gideon spending time with her. As a result, she was furious.
That was why your mother was injured after she caused a scene at your momâs place.â
I feel like Iâve taken a turn into an advanced mind game. Even though it seems like Iâve grasped a clue, it disappeared swifily.
Christina asked anxiously. âWhat about the letter she received?â If we can obtain that letter, weâll be able to analyze the handwriting to unearth hints about the mastermindâs identity. Itâs better than running around like a headless fly in our search.
âEverything inside Mirandaâs rented house was burned to a crisp.â A frown settled on Nathanielâs countenance. âItâs possible someoneâs attempting to hide certain evidence.â
Christina paled and her head was pounding.
Worried, Nathaniel assured, âIâll ask someone to investigate this matter, Christina. Donât overthink it. Your health is more important.â
âIâm feeling a little tired, Nathaniel. I want to rest for a bit,â stated Christina, wincing.
âSleep. Iâll keep you company here.â Promptly, Nathaniel laid her body flat on the bed and settled a blanket on her.
âYou should return to the company first, Nathaniel. There are caretakers in the hospital. I can take care of myselfâ Christina merely wanted a quiet moment. Besides, Nathaniel has been very busy and putting aside too much of his work because of me.
Hadley Corporation is in the critical stage of its restructuring. As such, I donât want to be Nathanielâs burden.
Nathaniel nodded. âIâll leave after you fall asleep.â
Strangled In Hospital Smiling, Christina lowered her eyelids.
Half an hour later, when he heard her steady breathing, he kissed her forehead and ambled out of the ward.
Christinaâs slumber was unstable as she had experienced too many incidents for the past two days.
As she dreamed, she felt she was suffocating, as though someone was choking her.
When she opened her eyes effortfully, she saw a shadowy figure moving above her head.
As she was gradually roused from her sleep, the pain she experienced felt more and more real. I canât die!
With all her might, she shoved the shadowy figure away. The figure released a muffled grunt and was forced to let go of Christina.
Without delay, Christina leaned toward the bedside table, grabbed the table lamp, and hurled it at the shadowy figure.
Clang!
The table lamp was smashed to the ground as the shadowy figure bolted out of the ward.
âWhat happened?â Upon hearing the commotion, the caretaker rushed into the room and turned on the lights. She noticed the mess on the ground before turning her sight to Christina, who was panting on the bed. Shocked, she asked, âAre you all right, Mrs. Hadley?â
Inhaling deeply, Christina eyed the caretaker suspiciously and answered calmly. âIâm fine. I just had a nightmare and accidentally broke the lamp. Please help me clean it up. Thank you.â
A sigh of relief escaped the caretakerâs lips as a smile formed on her face. âIâm glad youâre fine, Mrs. Hadley. Iâll ask a cleaner to clear this mess. You should go back to sleep.â
Christina was an important figure who came to the hospital for observation. If anything happened to her, they would have a challenging time explaining the situation to Nathaniel. Hence, the caretaker took Christinaâs well-being very seriously.
After the caretaker left the ward, Christina left the bed and strode into the restroom. When she yanked her collar, she saw a clear handprint on her fair neck. I wasnât dreaming earlier! Someone did barge into my ward to strangle me!
When she heard the caretaker speaking outside the room, she tidied her clothes and ambled out of the restroom. Immediately, she spotted the cleaner sweeping the glass pieces away before installing a new lamp on the bedside table.
Turning to Christina, the caretaker inquired, âShould I deliver a meal to you, Mrs. Hadley?â
Christina didnât have any appetite as she could still feel the burning pain around her neck. Sitting on the bed, she casually asked, âDid anyone visit me while I was sleeping earlier?â
The caretaker thought about it and shook her head. âNo. After Mr. Hadley left, I was the only one who occasionally checked up on you. Did something happen. Mrs. Hadley?â
âItâs nothing,â answered Christina expressionlessly.
âThere was a ten-minute blackout earlier. Perhaps the sound of visitors or doctors passing by the room.
Strangled In Hospital during that period confused you.â The caretaker smiled.
A blackout? Thatâs too much of a coincidence. Christina nodded. âYou may leave now. I want to be alone for a while.â
In response, the caretaker spun around and left.
While deep in thought, Christina picked up a familiar scent in the air. Itâs the fragrance of the handmade velvet flower! Was the culprit from earlier Emiliat She was so absorbed in her speculation that she didnât notice Nathaniel had arrived in front of her.
When she felt the sensation of warm hands on her cheeks, she reflexively pushed him away.
He wasnât expecting that, so he stumbled onto the couch behind him. âWhatâs the matter, Christina?â
It wasnât until Christina heard Nathanielâs voice that she focused her attention on him.
She was stunned for a moment before massaging her temples wearily. âIâm sorry. I didnât mean to push you. Are you hurt?â
Striding toward the bed, Nathaniel gazed at her with scrutiny. âYouâve been lost in your thoughts from the moment I stepped in, Christina. I know youâre hiding something from me.â
