Chapter 419
A Crazy Night Novel
Yes, Christma said as she pulled out the emerald pendant she had been wearing around her neck.
After seeing the exquisite, glittering imperial emerald, Sharon gradually calmed down. âYou have to keep that safe I canât stress enough how important it is.â
âI know. Youâve said itâs a family heirloom, so donât worry. Iâll guard it with my life,â Christina reassured.
However, just as she was about to probe further, a nurse entered the ward and interrupted their chat. âItâs time for the patient to rest. Please leave.â
âRest well, Mom,â Christina said, gently patting Sharonâs hand. âIâll bring the two little ones along on the next visit.â
Knowing sheâd see her adorable grandchildren soon, Sharon couldnât help but smile. âAll right, then.â
When Christina stepped out of the ward, her gaze immediately fell upon the tall and lanky Nathaniel standing by the window.
Dressed in a tailored black suit, there was no denying he looked exceptionally suave and steady Christina approached the man and held his arm, appreciating how she could feel his toned muscles even through his clothes.
âLetâs head home.â
Before long, the couple was back in the car and on their way home. âHow was the chat with your mother?â Nathaniel asked softly.
âIt was pretty good. However, when I asked if she knew the Gibson family, she evaded the question and enquired about my pendant instead,â Christina replied.
Come to think of it, that was rather odd. Moreover, I also noticed how anrious Mom became when I mentioned the Gibsons. It seemed as though she was hiding something important from me...
With that, she looked up at Nathaniel. âI have this nagging feeling that Momâs keeping something from me. Are you also doing the same?â
The man flinched a little as his fingers instinctively stiffened. âNo.â
Just like that, his simple one-word reply dispelled all of Christinaâs worries.
âYou head home first. I have a cocktail party later, so Iâll attend it for a while before returning.â Nathaniel added.
As much as he hated such events, there were still receptions and parties where his attendance was necessary.
After a momentâs hesitation, Christina spoke up. âWould you like me to accompany you?â
âItâd be best if you can.â
Christina chuckled as she looked down at the plain suit she was wearing. âMy clothes arenât very appropriate, though. Why donât you send me home to change before we attend the party?â
How can I not dress more formally at these fancy events when the way I present myself is a reflection of Nathanielâs social status? I have to look my best for him!
âWeâll just buy a new outfit now,â Nathaniel replied while driving toward the city center.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at a luxury dress shop.
âGo on ahead. I need to give Sebastian a call first.â
As soon as Christina entered the shop, she was greeted by a vast selection of expensive gowns, with the cheapest one already boasting a six-figure price tag.
Most of the gowns were carefully kept in dust covers, and only those on display were revealed in their full glory.
Even though the salespeople were all busy with their work, one of them couldnât help but look Christina up and down.
My goodness... That outfit sheâs wearing canât be worth more than a thousand. I canât believe she still has the guts to waltz into a luxury dress shop.
The rest of the staff exchanged glances at one another until a short-haired shop manager, Sally, reluctantly approached Christina. âHello, miss. Is there anything I can help you with?â
Christina could hear the distaste in the managerâs voice and figured the latter wasnât too keen on serving her.
Despite that, she chose not to call her out. âDo you have the smallest size for this burgundy gown?â
âNo.â Sally replied curtly.
Christina arched a brow. Huh? How can she be so sure without checking the stock?
The next second, she walked to a champagne dress. âWhat about this one?â
âWe donât have it, either,â Sally muttered, a trace of impatience in her voice.
Once again, Christina held herself back and walked into another section of the shop, where every gown was gorgeous and intricately made.
âWhat about this?â she said after picking out another gown.
âThis gown costs two hundred and eighty thousand. If you have no problem with the price. Iâll get it for you,â Sally said. Ha! Iâve purposely revealed the price, so hereâs hoping sheâd take the hint and leave without embarrassing herself.
âSure. Let me try it on,â Christina replied calmly.
Try as she might, Sally couldnât find a trace of surprise on the womanâs face. Hmph. She sure knows how to put on an act...
âThe one youâre holding is the smallest size.â
âWhereâs the changing room?â Christina added, still not showing any signs of losing her temper.
Alas, her magnanimity failed to earn Sallyâs respect, and the latter merely pointed to the right. âItâs over there. You can go by yourself.â
Christina furrowed her brows and silently walked to the changing room.
+5 Bonus Gowns sizings usually ran large, so for someone with a petite frame like Christina, choosing the smaller sizes was the way to go.
She wasted no time changing into the gown, but since the back zipper got stuck halfway, she had no choice but to step out and ask for help.
However, just as she met Sallyâs gaze and was about to speak, the latter intentionally looked away and busied herself with work.
Needless to say, Christina was peeved.
Are all salespeople so snobbish these days?
Thankfully, another saleswoman came along and saved the day, a smile on her face. âMiss, do you need any help?â
âYes.â
Without further ado, the saleswoman fixed the zipper and pulled out a full-length mirror.
Under the illumination of the bright lights, Christina was a portrait of ethereal beauty as the long gown she wore perfectly accentuated her waist and curves.
âYou look gorgeous, miss,â the saleswoman praised.
Christina smiled, looking ever so graceful and elegant. âIâll just wear this out. Can you get the bill for me?â
âOf course!â the saleswoman replied cheerily, knowing she could get a one percent commission from every gown sold. âThis way, please.â
Alas, just as Christina was about to pay for the gown at the counter, Sally hastily walked over to the saleswoman. âThis is my customer. Iâll handle it.â
âI only took over because you ignored her, yet youâre now insisting on closing the sale? Thatâs against the rules...
Sally glared at the woman. âOne more word from you, and Iâll tell our boss youâre stealing commission sales.â
Ha. Doesnât she know that our shopâs rule is never to steal sales in front of customers?
Christina, however, calmly turned to the saleswoman who served her. âI want this staff to help me.â
Upon hearing that, Sally flew into a rage and walked away in a huff, intentionally bumping into the saleswoman as she did.
The latter failed to keep her balance and knocked against the table, causing a cup of coffee to spill over and onto the hem of Christinaâs gown....
âOh, no! Thatâs the only piece for this dress!â the saleswoman sputtered.
Sally placed her hands on her hips and scoffed, âThatâs none of my business. You were the one who tripped. Either you compensate the customer or pay the shop for the damages.â
Christina frowned What? That gown costs more than two hundred thousand, for goodnessâ sake! How can an ordinary salesperson afford to pay for it
