Chapter 399 We Should Go Home
A Crazy Night Novel
The crescent moon hung in the sky as Christina twitched her brows. She opened her eyes, feeling a throbbing pain in her head.
The door to the ward was pushed open, and two figures walked in.
Sebastian whispered. âMr. Hadley, Iâve discovered that despite the other partyâs claim of drunk driving, it is evident that the two collisions were intentional. It seems that the person had a deliberate motive to...â
He hesitated to utter the word âkillâ
âI suspect that the side collision we experienced last time was not an accident either...â Sebastianâs voice grew softer.
Being involved in two consecutive car accidents was too much of a coincidence. Who on earth wants us dead âKeep this a secret for now, Donât tell Mrs. Hadley about it. I donât want her to worry,â Nathaniel said icily.
His voice was deep. It sounded even more suppressed in the dimly lit room.
As footsteps neared the bedside, Nathanielâs handsome face came into view. âNathaniel...â
âDonât move.â Nathaniel took a seat by the bed, carefully assisting her in leaning against the headboard. âIs your head still hurting?â
His gentle voice provided Christina with a sense of security. âI feel much better now, but Iâm just feeling a bit nauseous.â
âThe doctor said you can only eat thirty minutes after you wake up.â Nathaniel reached out to massage her temples gently as if he was massaging an infant.
Christina nodded. âWhat happened earlier?â
âThe driver behind us was drunk, but the police have taken him away. Everything is fine,â Nathaniel explained casually.
Christinaâs face darkened. Thatâs not what Sebastian said earlier. Who could be behind this? Why didnât he inform me about such a dangerous situation?
Christina held his hand. âIf thereâs any danger, you have to let me know. Even if I canât be of much help. I can at least be there with you.â
Images of Nathaniel carrying her and running on the road filled her mind.
The genuine concern in his eyes was unmistakably sincere.
Knowing how deeply Nathaniel cared for her, Christina felt a warm sensation surging through her heart, embracing her with a comforting warmth.
Hence, she wanted to give their relationship another chance.
Nathaniel gently held her face in his hands and tenderly caressed it. âYou silly girl. What danger could possibly come my way?
Furthermore, people always say that good fortune would follow after we survive a great peril. From now on, everything will go smoothly.â
Christina could not help but chuckle, her eyes blinked like an adorable kitten.
Sebastian could not believe his eyes.
He never expected to witness the usually serious Nathaniel cracking jokes to bring a smile to Christinaâs face Hiâ only they could stay like this forever.
âPrepare some oatmeal and bring it over half an hour later,â Nathaniel ordered in a deep voice. Get out of here. Sebastian.
Only then did Sebastian realize that he was intruding on their private moment. âAll right, Iâll see to it right now.â
After closing the door behind him. Nathaniel held Christina even tighter.
âYour head...â After catching a strong scent of antiseptic, Christina finally noticed the bandaged wound on Nathanielâs head.
A white gauze was faintly stained with traces of red blood.
âDoes it hurt?â The thought of Nathaniel carrying her all the way despite his injury weighed heavily on Christinaâs heart.
âNo, it doesnât. Iâm a man with thick skin.â Nathaniel gave a rather official explanation.
Once again, Christina could not help but let out a chuckle. His skin is not thick at all. In fact, itâs so delicate. His features are well-
defined, and heâs handsome beyond comparison!
âItâs good to finally see you laugh. I was so worried about you,â he said.
Christina immediately stopped laughing. She stared at Nathaniel with wide eyes.
Their gazes met, filled with indescribable emotions blossoming between them.
Nathaniel held her hand. âChristina, letâs stop fighting, shall we? I like you so, so much.â
âWell, will you respect me and not repeat the same mistake from now on?â Christinaâs concern remained. deep-rooted. What if his display of affection is just a fleeting impulse? What if he eventually reverts to his domineering nature again? How should I handle him if that happens?
âIf I ever make you angry again, Iâll give you full custody of our child and never fight with you,â Nathaniel vowed, raising his hand as if taking an oath to demonstrate his determination.
That was what concerned Christina the most.
She lifted her pinky finger, pointing it at his nose, and issued a gentle warning. âRemember, you that vow yourself. I didnât force you into it.â
Nathaniel gently clasped her tiny hand and said, âYes. For the sake of our future staying together as a family, Iâll do my best not to upset you again. If you donât believe me, Iâll get the lawyer to draft an agreement tomorrow.â
Christina flashed a faint grin in response as a surge of warmth filled her heart.
She blushed and smiled, feeling an instant surge of energy coursing through her body. âOf course, I trust you-â
Before she could finish speaking. Nathaniel gently held her chin, tilting it up, and lowered his head to kiss her delicate lips A scorching breath enveloped her, igniting a spark within her like a fire spreading across the grasslands.
In that tender moment, the door swung open.
Mrs. Hadley, I have prepared some snacks and oatmeal for you. What would you like to eat?â
Upon entering the ward, Sebastianâs gaze fell upon them, seated at opposite ends of the bed. This is weird. Whatâs going on?
âJust put them aside.â Christina smiled faintly, trying to mask the lingering awkwardness on her face.
Nathanielâs expression turned cold and stern. âYouâve had a long day. Go back and rest.â
âUm... alright, Mr. Hadley,â Sebastian replied, feeling a bit lost for words as he was not accustomed to Nathaniel showing him concern.
He quickly exited the ward, taking a step back as Nathaniel gave him another menacing glare.
After Sebastian left, Christina could not help but giggle softly.
Nathaniel reached out to pull her over, and she willingly nestled in his embrace.
The morning sun bathed the hospital room in a warm glow.
The doctor made his rounds and performed a routine examination. âMs. Christina, if youâre feeling well with no other discomfort, you can be discharged anytime.â
âThank you, doctor. Iâm feeling better now,â she replied.
The doctor nodded and left with the nurse.
After Sebastian completed the discharge procedure, the three of them left the hospital.
Just as they were about to step out of the elevator, they saw Madison looking flustered.
âNathaniel, are you all right?â she exclaimed, reaching out to hold Nathanielâs hand.
Christina instinctively glanced over and saw Nathaniel coldly retracting his hand. Then, he replied, âIâm fine.â
Whenever there was news about Nathaniel, Madison would always show unwavering concern and promptly appear before him.
It was evident that Madison had deep feelings for Nathaniel.
Although Christina did not view Madisonâs affection as a threat, she did not particularly welcome it either. No wife will appreciate another woman persistently bothering her husband.
Upon noticing the change in Christinaâs expression, he held her hand and said, âCome, letâs go home.â
They then walked out of the hospital.
Tears welled up in Madisonâs eyes.
The simple utterance of âletâs go backâ became an unbridgeable chasm for Madison, a distant dream that seemed out of reach âYou see that, Madison? Itâs time for you to give up and move on. Stop wasting your time on Mr. Hadley.â Sebastian consoled her.
Madison clenched her fists, her eyes turning bloodshot. âNo way!â
