Chapter 351 Retaining Christina
A Crazy Night Novel
Nathanielâs emotions, which had just been in turmoil, resumed peacefulness.
Behind his shades, his eyes narrowed at the inexplicable sense of comfort spreading within his heart.
Yosef sighed lightly. âThereâs no reason for me to slander Nathaniel. Christina, Iâ
âI donât doubt you. Itâs Lauraâs words I donât trust. Perhaps someoneâs just trying to shift the blame,â Christina interjected lightly.
While her voice was soft, the message she hoped to convey was clear enough.
Yosef had not foreseen Christina mistrusting him and was about to come up with a retort when a tall figure stood and pulled Christinaâs wrist to leave. âRest.â
From the way he spit out that one word, it was as though speaking more would cost him.
Yosefâs expression was back to its placid state. âYou should get some rest since itâs getting late. Iâll drop you off at the studio tomorrow morning.â
âI still remember the route to get there. Iâve only been gone for a few months.â Christina declined his offer inadvertently.
âAll right, then. See you tomorrow.â
Christina was not surprised by how luxurious the presidential suite turned out to be since Nathaniel had been the one to arrange for it.
Before stepping into the room, Christina inquired, âMr. Bodyguard, where will you be staying?â
âRight opposite you.â His voice was deep and husky.
Christinaâs eyes widened. âA bodyguard staying in a presidential suite? You sure are living the high life.â
âIâm not your ordinary bodyguard.â
Christina laughed drily. You are almost as unique as your employer at this point.
âGet some rest. Feel free to call me if you need anything.â This was the longest sentence Nathaniel had uttered for the entire day.
Christina nodded. She entered the room, not forgetting to lock the door behind her.
Once inside, she was not in a hurry to shower as she whipped out her phone to video call Lucas.
His smart watch connected to the call promptly.
Two adorable faces appeared on Christinaâs phone screen. They called out sweetly, âMom, we missed you so much!â
âIâve missed you two as well. Have both of you been obedient at home?â Christina felt the dayâs exhaustion dissipate into thin air upon hearing the voice of her children.
Lucas radiant eyes shone like diamonds, and he pouted his rosy lips proudly. âOf course! We woke up early before our alarm clock rang to practice calligraphy and arrived at school on time!â
Christina gave them a thumbs-up. âTake good care of Camila, Lucas. Iâll be back the minute Iâm done with work.â
It was late at night where Christina was and morning at Scenic Garden Manor due to the different time zones that they were in.
She hung up the call shortly as she began feeling fatigued.
At the same time, Nathaniel had removed his sunglasses and face mask in the room opposite her. The mirror reflected the impassive expression on his chiseled face and his jet-black eyes that seemed to pull one into its endless depths. He grabbed his phone and dialed a number.
âInvestigate who exactly was the one who leaked the design draft of Yosefâs studio.â
Sebastian replied, âRight away, Mr. Hadley.â
Nathaniel considered for a moment before continuing. Iâd like to acquire Yosefâs studio. Come up with at price for it tomorrow,â
Christina wouldnât have a reason to remain here once the studio was gone.
âIâll get to it as soon as possible tomorrow. By the way, Iâve already sent the documents you need to handle to your email.â
Sebastian paused before querying worriedly, âMr. Hadley, why donât I head over there? Someone should look out for you instead of you being alone. Should I disguise myself as a bodyguard to protect Mrs. Hadley together with you?â
Nathaniel was used to Sebastian being around whenever he worked outstation and would most likely be unaccustomed to dealing with the nitty gritty work due to his absence.
Nathanielâs brows furrowed. Wonât Sebastianâs appearance expose my true identity?
He refused Sebastianâs offer curtly and ended the call before retrieving his laptop from his luggage to go. through the documents at the work desk.
Christina woke up early at dawn the following day as she did not want to be trailed by her bodyguard.
She left her long hair down, donning a pink knitted coat on top of a simple floral dress. After slinging on. her handbag, she crept out of the room silently.
When opening the door, she tried to do so stealthily to reduce as much noise as possible from reaching the hotel room opposite her.
âHeading out?â A low, magnetic voice sounded from behind her.
Christina almost jumped out of her skin in surprise and turned around to the sight of the disguised Nathaniel, who seemingly appeared out of nowhere.
He was dressed in the same outfit as the day before, which consisted of baggy black attire that concealed his physique. The mask and sunglasses hid his features perfectly as well.
The imposing air around him filled up the space around him.
Christina chuckled awkwardly like a child that had been caught red-handed by their parents. âYouâre up early, Mr. Bodyguard.â
Nathaniel made a sound of agreement. âShall we go?â
âAll right.â
Christinaâs original plan was to wake up early to get breakfast and then take a stroll before heading to the studio When she exited the hotel with her bodyguard behind her, there were scarcely any pedestrians on the street since it was still early at seven in the morning The passers-by they came across couldnât help stealing several extra glances at them as the contrast between Christinaâs petiteness and the bodyguardâs powerful build called too much attention.
Christina stopped at a bakery and directed her sparkling gaze to her bodyguard. âWould you like some bread for breakfast, Mr.
Bodyguard?â
No thanks Nathaniel rejected without hesitation, as eating would require him to remove his mask.
âIf thatâs the case, hold on a second while I grab something for myselfâ
Christina headed into the bakery by the street and bought two pieces of toast and two cups of hot coffee despite her bodyguardâs refusal.
They found an empty bench before sitting down with a great deal of distance between them.
Christina handed the bodyguard his portion, which he accepted but did not dig into.
Christina enjoyed her toast while sipping her coffee. The image of the breeze lifting her hair so that it artfully obscured her limpid eyes was heart-wrenchingly beautiful.
With her head bowed, she seemed to be deep in thought.
âYou truly doubt that itâs him?â The bodyguardâs voice was ridiculously magnetic and lush Christina was stunned for a moment but quickly recovered once she realized that he was referring to the conversation from the night before.
She took a sip of coffee. âItâs more like Nathanielâs style to buy over the studio on a whim.â
Nathaniel despised beating around the bush and wouldnât bother spending so much effort on pirating.
Behind his black mask, the corners of Nathanielâs lips lifted at how well Christina understood him.
On the other hand, he was rarely so thoughtful of Christina. It was no wonder sheâd stormed off in a rage back then.
âItâs almost time. Letâs go to the studio. You should stand quietly in a corner later and refrain from speakingâ
Christina noticed she could never communicate effectively with others whenever her bodyguard was by her side.
Although his eyes and features were shielded, his intimidating aura could not be suppressed.
