Chapter 163
A Crazy Night Novel
Chapter 163 Impossible A deathly silence ensued in the living room.
Nathaniel stepped toward Carl, glared at the latter coldly, and stated firmly, âNo one is allowed to touch my woman!â
Everyone present was stunned.
Felicia laid her coffee cup aside and chuckled. âIâm glad my grandson knows how to protect his wife! Not bad.â
Meanwhile, Julia was sweating profusely as she tugged the old womanâs sleeve and whispered, âDonât fan the flames, Mom.â We shouldnât jump to conclusions before we investigate the matter.
âI believe in Christina,â asserted Felicia.
Julia couldnât understand why her motherâinâlaw believed in Christina so much.
Of course, the Bennetts were understandably enraged. They didnât expect Nathaniel to love Christina so much that he was willing to sacrifice the companyâs interests for her, even though her background couldnât be any more ordinary.
âSo, it seems the reason your wife acted haughtily and bullied our daughter is that she has your support. Hmph, I wonder if sheâs a disgrace to your family,â mocked Carl coldly.
Upon hearing Nathanielâs words, Molly gritted her teeth angrily. âAre you saying you wonât ask the culprit to apologize?â I wonât allow the person who hurt my daughter to go unpunished! If he refuses to relent, then he better not blame us for ignoring the relationship our families share! Itâs a piece of cake for us to drag that woman out of her room! Iâve already asked all of our familyâs bodyguards to come here. When the time arrives, Iâll haul her into the living room and force her to apologize!
The grim atmosphere turned tense. No one dared to lower their guards as they prepared to strike.
Nathaniel placed his hands behind his back and stood tall, looking like an immovable snowy mountain. A dangerous look swirled in his dark eyes.
Composedly, he declared, âElizabeth was the one who pushed Christina into the pool, so she should be the one apologizing!â
The crowd gasped in shock when they heard that.
He wants the victim to apologize? What kind of joke is this? This is ridiculous! He has no respect for the Bennett family at all!
Exasperated, Carl roared. âHow dare you claim that Elizabethâs the one who pushed her! Do you have evidence?â I wonât let this slide unless he has a convincing argument!
Nathaniel appeared to have come prepared as he snapped his fingers confidently.
Moments later, Sam emerged from a corner and displayed a few photos on a tablet. He accidentally took pictures of the environment back then while they were on the way to meet with Christina after receiving her call.
The photos clearly showed Christinaâs clothes, shoes, and phone neatly placed on the side of the bridge.
Coldly, Nathaniel explained with animosity, âLet me ask you all something. Who would set their belongings aside before pushing someone into the water when they themselves have no intention of also SIDE falling into the water? Obviously, Christina laid her belongings on the bridge because she planned to save Elizabeth after seeing the latter falling into the water! Christina tried to rescue Elizabeth out of kindness, yet she was accused as the culprit! None of you are leaving this building until you apologize to her!â
The people in the living room exchanged glances with each other. He makes a solid argument. According to Elizabeth, she met Christina on the bridge before the latter shoved her into the pool. As she did, she grabbed Christinaâs hand, causing them both to fall. If thatâs true, how did Christina have enough time to place her belongings neatly on the bridge?
The Bennetts were rendered speechless as they winced.
At that moment, Elizabeth limped out of her room with a pale countenance. She looked so weak that the wind could topple her.
Resentfully, she refuted, âHeâs lying. They couldâve purposely placed those items there afterward.â I wouldnât have needed to come out here and argue with him if he wasnât threatening to ruin my plan! Iâm so close to succeeding!
Feeling sorry for her daughter, Molly walked over and held her. âWhy did you come out here, Elizabeth? Your father and I can handle this. Youâll have the justice you deserve.â
In response, Nathaniel swept his deadly gaze past Elizabeth, causing her to shudder and avoid his eyes.
Once again, the situation grew tense. Both families were in a stalemate because they wanted to prove they were right, but neither side had concrete evidence.
After brief contemplation, Carl suggested, âFor old timesâ sake, Iâm willing to compromise and settle for a simple apology.â
It was obvious the Bennett family had capitulated.
If Nathaniel accepted the suggestion, then the conflict between the families would be resolved.
However, he instead raised his chin pridefully. âApologize? Thatâs impossible.â
His hostile demeanor made him appear like a demon who just strode out of hell. No one dared to approach him.
Suddenly, a skinny figure emerged from the crowd. âNathaniel.â
When Christina woke up, she was informed by the bodyguards that the Bennetts were making things difficult for the Hadleys.
Expeditiously, she bolted toward the living room and overheard the conversation within.
Upon turning around, Nathaniel saw Christina staring at him with watery eyes. She was like a lost deer that mistakenly barged into the castle of a dangerous hunter, tempting those who laid eyes on her to protect her.
When his line of sight landed on her bare feet, he frowned and approached her.
Without delay, he picked her up in front of everyone. âYou shouldnât run around barefooted.â As his warm breath brushed past her face, she widened her eyes and met his tender gaze, stunned. Before she could react, he leaned over and kissed her forehead. Thank goodness. She didnât catch a fever.
Moments later, Nathaniel carried Christina to his seat and kissed her cheek. Holding her icy hands, he exhaled a puff of breath to warm her hands. âAre you cold? Do you want to return to your room and rest? I can handle the situation.â
She was dumbfounded as his languorous tone made her blush. There are so many people watching us... Canât he wait until later to kiss me?
Meanwhile, Molly couldnât stay silent any longer. She just wanted to wrap the matter up and leave.
Hugging Elizabeth, she eyed Christina and spoke in a sarcastic tone. âItâs just an apology. Itâs not like she doesnât know how to do that. Donât all peasants grow up saying sycophantic things like that? She must be used to it.â
Christina was promptly angered. They donât have the right to look down on peasants! I didnât do anything wrong, so why should I apologize?
Felicia, who had been staying silent, spoke up. âA personâs nature has nothing to do with their background. I can tell Christinaâs a kind child because she canât even bear to hurt animals. Those unable to bring themselves to commit such an act have a compassionate heart.â
