Chapter Ten

Till Death Do Us Part (A Broken Spin Off) ✔️

I looked over all the evidence Michael had sent me, wondering how he got it. It was a confession from the judge himself about how he got paid to rule Mr. Nutsugah guilty. There was also a certain nurse talking about how he helped carry a dead body away after Elorm had been with it. There was a doctor too, tall, good—looking, and he confessed to looking at the dead chief's body, Elorm disclosing that she was the cause of that death, and Kofi denying it.

The evidence was solid. Two witnesses, although that they were working for an illegal organization was a bit damning. Still, if they were arrested, it would make their testimonies much easier to believe. There would be no reason for them to lie about an innocent, unrelated woman.

It made me wonder why Michael had gone through the trouble of gathering all this information if he wasn't going to use it. Perhaps, at the last minute, he decided that she had already been through enough, and that making her relive this nightmare wouldn't have been fair.

I wasn't going to turn this in, of course. I was just going to use this to make him leave Elorm. He wouldn't break her heart or anything of that sort. Maybe, he would go back to his grandparents' for a while or vacation in another far off country. The latter seemed like a better idea. When he was finally fine and had vanquished all his demons, then he would come back to her and they would be happy. It's what she deserves.

I closed my laptop, eyeing the gun beside it.

That night. That night was the night, when I would finally exact my revenge. It was strange how I didn't feel any such guilt or nervousness, only excitement. In a different room in that same house, Wolfgang was getting dressed in black like me, awaiting my orders. Bunny was parked in front of the penthouse in his Corolla. The target was already isolated in his solitary cell, awaiting his end.

An exercise I ought to have completed a while ago nagged at me. I took the concoction and ran downstairs. In the kitchen, I immediately saw a lot of water bottles, but I opened the fridge and took a cold one. I removed the bottle caps of both the concoction's bottle and the water bottle, then poured the deadly mixture into the water.

Like I'd been told, it diluted immediately, not even showing its previous yellow colour. It became white. No one could tell the difference between the concoction and the water if they tried. Perhaps only tasting would do, but I wasn't ready to risk it.

"What is that?"

I dropped the bottle. I watched with horror as the water seeped out hurriedly. Kofi, the intruder who had startled me, came forward and quickly picked up the bottle before it could be completely emptied. He set it on the counter and turned to me.

"Why are you dressed like this?" he asked, suspicion marring his handsome features.

I recovered from my shock at the sound of his authoritative voice. "Mind your own business." I took the water bottle and capped it again. Only half of its contents remained but it was enough, thankfully.

"I know you're up to something. I can feel it."

I really contemplated shooting him if he didn't get out of my way. "Go to bed and stop disturbing me."

"No, tell me what it is you're doing. What is with this dressing?" he touched my hoodie, lifting it up a bit.

"Don't touch me!" I yelled, slapping his hand away.

He withdrew it gently, his eyes on me. He watched me like a hawk, and it sent shivers down my spine. The bad kind. "Here's a piece of advice. Whatever trouble you're going to get yourself into, don't come back when you're done. The moment you step out of that door," he pointed to the apartment's door, "stay out."

I smiled at him. It was a knowing smile, because I knew that before the night gave way to a new dawn, he and Elorm would no longer be an item. He wouldn't have the nerve to talk to me like that. "Here's a piece of advice, or rather, a command. Wait up for me. When I get back, I promise that I'll rock your entire world. Trust me."

He stared. Perhaps there was shock in those dark green irises, maybe anger. I didn't care enough to wait. I got into the lift, giving him a mocking salute as the doors closed between us. Immediately I began descending, I rang Wolfgang and told him to make sure that Kofi didn't see him coming down. It would've aroused too much suspicion.

It was cold outside. Worse still, we were in the rainy season, and yes, it was rainy. Thunderstorms and frightfully chilly rain, it was a nightmare. I wondered whether the rain was a bad sign. It must've been.

I got into the car. The man was smoking a cigarette in the enclosed space. He glanced at me, dangling the thing between his lips, and smiled.

"You don't seem nervous," he observed.

"Because I'm not."

"Of course, you're not the one going to have to demean yourself."

"You got thirty thousand dollars and sex. Shut up."

Inspite of his unwillingness for the task at hand, he laughed. "Good sex too."

"Yeah, you're never getting it again."

"I know you liked it too," he chuckled. "I have mad skills in the sack and you know it."

"Can we stop talking about this?" I asked, seeing Wolfgang approaching.

He nodded though the mocking smile never left. Wolfgang got in behind us, plopping himself down on the seat loudly. He shook like a dog, trying to the rain off his clothes and hair. "Kofi saw me."

I groaned. "I don't know why he's so interested in my business."

"I don't think we can pull this off without him all over our arses."

"Yes, Bunny, step on it, before he gets the bright idea to follow us or some stupid shit like that."

Bunny listened and drove off. The car was not flashy. It was simple enough that no one would pay extra attention to it. If Kofi followed us, we would definitely catch him because he drove a sleek dark blue Mercedes Benz. Elorm had a Benz too, a red Chrysler and a G—Wagon. All those cars were too flashy to not be noticed—at least, after we'd left the wealthy area—so we were safe for now.

From Elorm's plush area to the prison the rapist was held in was like a downgrade from heaven to hell. Even the streets around and the settlements were slums. It was dirty and filthy, just like I had expected. It was good that he was being kept at a place like that. In fact, it was more than he deserved.

"Okay, we're here, now turn off your phones," Wolfgang told us, his phone in hand.

I took my phone out to turn it off, but I stopped upon seeing two missed calls from my father. The sight made me smile. He was so kind and loving, a little bit clingy—not that I minded, since he'd missed out on my entire life—and caring. He really texted me to ask what I had eaten the entire day. I felt guilty for not calling him back, but as soon as all this was over, I would move in with him. Words couldn't even describe how good it felt to have a parent who cared.

We were parked underneath a tree, close but not too close to the prison. Honestly, I was a bit worried about the car. This was a slum and the inhabitants didn't take too kindly to rich people. Rich was a stretch, perhaps people will decent cars. Yes.

"The guard you beat up, his clothes, wear them and get in there," I said.

"Yes boss, I know the plan boss," he mocked. We turned away from him as he changed, even though I'd seen him naked already. I just wanted him to feel comfortable.

"Once you're inside and no one suspects you, bring us some of the prisoners' uniforms."

"Yes boss, I know the plan boss."

"Make sure that you aren't seen bringing us the uniforms. I don't care how you do it. Remember, mine has to be loose. No one can see that I have breasts."

At that, the annoyed frown dropped and a smirk took its place. "That will be hard to hide."

"Yeah okay, get out," Wolfgang ordered him.

With a shrill laugh, he did as he was asked. Wolfgang hopped into the driver's seat and pulled a beanie down my head. It hid my now blonde hair. I'd blackfished by spraying myself with a dark tan so that I didn't look Caucasian.

Although the beanie hid my blonde hair, I decided a split second after that it was too risky. It could come off. I reached into that compartment in front of me, a hidden drawer that you could reach by pulling a lever of some sort. In there, I took out a pair of metal scissors. I didn't wait to talk myself out of it. I watched solemnly as my blonde strands fell at my feet.

"Darn, you're really serious about this, aren't you?"

The corset I wore tightened around my breasts, rendering me almost incapable of breathing. I had lifted it up so that it wasn't pushing my stomach in, but rather, the fatty flesh above. If he didn't think that was serious enough, then he was very daft. "So very serious. That man is going to regret the day he ever lay eyes on me."
