Chapter 17
Mated To My Doom
There's a reason she's not telling Greg that they're not mates.
'Say something I'm giving up on you'
Chapter 17
"I hate how much I love you."
I didn't realize Greg was in my room until after I dropped my towel.
I just finished a nice hot shower and wanted nothing more then to change to my pajamas and go to bed.
Seeing him stand there, absorbing every inch of my body, I quickly grabbed the towel back off from the floor and attempted to cover my self.
"You have a beautiful body," He commented.
I probably look like a tomato right now.
How did he even get in here? My door was locked, as was my window.
Greg started taking slow yet daring steps towards me.
"What are you doing?" I ask cautiously.
"Enjoying what's mine. We are mates after all." He said the word 'mate' in such distaste that I felt like he knew.
I was too shocked by this realization that I didn't get a chance to stop Greg's grabby hands.
He had the towel pulled away from me in seconds, and pressed his body against mine.
It was then I realized he wasn't wearing a shirt. But I could have sworn he was wearing one a second ago.
"Greg?"
His lips grazed mine.
"Shh," he whispered, making his lips vibrate against mine.
I could see the lust clear in his eyes.
One second he was staring into my eyes, like he could see my soul, and the next his lips were on mine, as if he was searching for it.
Part of me knew something was very off about Greg, but I ignored that part and gave in to the lust.
A moan escaped my lips when Greg lightly bites my bottom lip.
He suddenly stops and goes back to staring into my eyes. This time there was no lust, but rather an empty pit of nothing.
"Greg?" I croak out.
"Rose-" Suddenly his blank eyes was replaced by pain.
"Rose, I'm dying."
All of Greg's weight dropped on myself, my tiny hands struggling to keep him up.
Eventually his weight became too much and he fell back.
"Oh god, Greg."
Blood tainted the pure white t shirt he wore.
At the time, I didn't care to remember that Greg wasn't wearing a shirt to begin with.
No, I was far too disturbed by the bloody and twitching heart that lay beside Greg's body.
"Rose."
I dropped to my knees, reaching out and cupping Greg's face.
He stopped moving.
"Greg, wake up. Greg, don't do this!" His eyes were wide open, staring into mine.
"Rose."
Waving my hands in front of his face, I found it no use. It was too late.
"Rose."
He was dead.
"Rose!"
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
I feel like i'm drowning.
Every time I resurface, I find myself knocked back down.
I can't breathe. My mind is going absolutely nuts: its racing and I am unable to form coherent thoughts but at the same time it's continuously telling me that I needed to get to the surface.
The instinct not to breath underwater is so strong that it overcomes the agony of running out of air. No matter how desperate I am, I cannot inhale.
As I feel the small bliss of oxygen entering my burning lungs, it's cut short by a large wave.
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
"Rose!" Soph shouts in my ear.
Startled, I sit up at a lightning speed.
My body was soaked, not by water, but sweat.
It seems that my dreams had turned into nightmares over night.
They always say a nightmare reflects your fears.
If this is true, then that means I have a fear of loosing Greg, and drowning.
I can't help but to think that I have already lost Greg.
Maybe nightmares don't reflect your fears, but rather your future.
"Rose?"
I wait to catch my breathe before replying.
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I found you all clustered and shivering. You looked scared, were you having a nightmare?"
"I guess." My eyes meet Sophs.
"What time is it?" I ask after a few passing seconds.
"7, you have forty minutes to get ready for school." Soph kept changing her glance to different spots.
"I'm sorry,"
Both Soph and I look at each other in shock.
"Jinx!" She yells, a smile finally forming on her lips.
I smile too.
"I really am sorry, I know I can't describe how I feel about Greg or Hunter, but I don't know what it is. I can't stand when people talk bad about either of them."
"I understand, I may not agree, but I understand." Relief washed through me.
I didn't need Soph to agree with my decisions, but it did help if she understood why I made them.
Sophia and I aren't the type of sisters to scream, hold grudges and ignore each other. Well, sometimes she ignores me, but that's only if I finish her stash of Oreo cookies.
But that's beside the point.
We're the type of sisters to get it all out of our system, then say sorry later.
"Are we good?" I ask.
"We're good."
I ruffle her hair and walk towards my closet.
"Eghh Rose! I just straightened my hair!" Soph complains.
I turn back towards her.
"Excuse you, since when are you allowed to straight your hair for school? You're too young, it will only kill your hair. You may have nice think hair now, but if you keep straightening it then you wont."
Soph just rolls her eyes. "Relax, I'm only doing it because it's picture day."
"Well in that case, you might want to comb it, I may have messed it up," I smile cheekily at her as I watch her exit my room.
"Mom needs to talk to you before you leave, by the way."
I quickly change into a sweater and jeans, I decide against makeup, and just wash my face instead.
There's nothing I hate more then washing off my makeup.
Okay that's a lie... I hate lamb meat more.
"You needed me?" My mothers hands were busy washing some dishes, her face turned away from mine.
"Yeah, just gimme a sec."
By the time my mothers done, I've already got my lunch made.
While drying her hands, she says, "So, I've already run it past Soph, but I wanted to inform you that Jake will be moving in soon."
"I mean, if that's okay with you. You're my daughter, this is a big step for all of us."
"Mom, if you love him, like he loves you, then of course he's welcomed here. I just want you to be happy, he's good for you. But, you have to promise me one thing,"
"What?"
"Promise me you'll cut down on the amount of hours you work."
Suddenly, the door bell rings, distracting us from out deep moment.
My mom pulls me in for a hug.
"I promise baby, not go get the door."
When we part, mom goes back to scrubbing the dishes.
"Who on earth is at our door at 7 in the morning?"
Shoving the door open, I see none other than my mate.
"Hunter? What are you doing here?"
"You're moving in today, don't tell me you forgot. I knew you had a small head, but I didn't know your brain was as well."
"Jeez, thanks." Looking back, I see my mom busy in the kitchen, not paying any attention to me.
"Stay there," I shut the door in Hunter's face.
Slipping into some shoes, I could hear a small grown escaping Hunter's lips.
"Don't ever shut a door on me again," Hunter spoke roughly, but his face showed no expression.
"I need a day."
"Pardon?"
I walk past him outside, closing the door on my way.
"Give me one more day, I'll move in tomorrow."
"No," Hunter refuses.
I attempt to use the guilt card.
"I wasn't asking. I can't just leave my family, I need to sit down and tell them. Ever since my dad died, I've always been with my mom and Soph. I can't just walk out telling them a second in advanced."
Something flickered within Hunter, but It was gone before I could register it.
"Fine, you have until tomorrow morning. Now come on, I'm driving you to school."
I was far too shocked that Hunter had actually agreed with me, that it took me a few seconds to register what he said after.
"What? No thank you. I have my own car."
"I said I'm taking you." Hunter's tone directed there was no space to argue, but me being me, found some.
"But- but people will talk."
"And.. people will stare."
"Oh! And someone might actually think we're mates. Do you really want that?"
"Your right, you should wear a paper bag over your face."
Before I could argue back, I freeze.
Hunter's melodic laughter reaches my ears.
"Your face- oh my god- that was hilarious." I ignore him and go back in to get my bag.
Knowing there's nothing I can do, Hunter will one way or another, force me to get into his car, I gather my bag and walk back out.
"Mom, I'm going to school, a.. friends giving me a ride. I'll see you guys tonight." I close the door and walk towards Hunter's car.
He was already sitting in the driver's seat when I got in.
"Wait soph-"
"Will be getting a ride by your mother."
"How do you know that?" I give Hunter a skeptical look.
"I'm Alpha, I know everything. Now wear this." In hunters outstretched hand was a small, brown, paper bag.
Oh hell no.
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
Hunter was in fact serious about the bag, but I guess it didn't matter because as soon as I saw it, I opened the window and threw it out.
I was surprised when Hunter had driven right up to the entrance of my school, an area where many people hang out.
It was no shocker that people would stare. I mean after the big scene in the cafeteria yesterday, I don't blame them.
But it wasn't until they saw Hunter that the whispers began.
I attempted to ignore them by mentally plugging my ears.
Didn't work.
As I got to my first period class, the talking got loud and louder. Even the teacher looked at me weirdly.
By the time I got to my last class, It had gotten too bad to ignore.
As soon as I entered the change room, all the girls stopped their chatting. But of course, it didn't last long.
"Look at her neck!"
"I don't see a mark."
"Of course not. Our Alpha would never mark her."
Laughter.
"She's not fit to be out Luna."
The worst part was that they were right.
I'm not fit to be a Luna. I wouldn't put the pack before me. I'm selfish. I can't help it.
I never asked for any of this.
It seemed like days had passed by the time gym was finally over. My last class.
At lunch, I ignored going to the cafeteria, and instead just wandered the halls.
Liv wasn't at school today. Neither was Tom or Jason.
In a way, I was happy of their absence. At least I have one more day before facing them.
It wasn't until I left the front doors of my high school when I realized I didn't have a ride.
Stupid Alpha.
"Hey you- Rosalyn!" From the calling of my name, I search for the voice.
"Jaxon?" I ask as soon as the car pulls up in front of me.
Why is the beta here?
"Get in," He demands.
He shows no aggression, but I decide to comply anyways.
"I'm guessing Hunter sent you?"
His eyes met mine and he winked.
"That he did." Jackson reversed from the parking lot and went straight to the road.
"He doesn't make you call him Alpha anymore?"
That's right. Jaxon was there that day when Hunter freaked out on me, demanding I call him Alpha, and Jaxon Beta.
"No, I guess he just forgot." So did I.
It seems like years when that conversation happened.
I'm not the only one who changed. Hunter did as well. I just can't figure out if that's good or bad. Maybe If Hunter had actually rejected me, or accepted my rejection, all this wouldn't have happened.
I could have been with Greg.
I didn't even want to think about Greg. There's no doubt that he hates me. I hate me.
"Well in that case, you don't have to call me Beta, not that you even did." Jaxon's voice brought me back to reality.
When he looked over at me, I gave him a short smile, but even I knew it didn't reach my eyes.
Too many things were going on for me to smile and actually mean it.
"Turn left here, right?"
"Yup, how do you know where I live anyways?"
"I'm the Beta, I know everything."
I'm Alpha. I know everything.
Hmm I guess like Alpha like beta.
"No, but really."
"Really. But your Hunter's mate, I should know where you live."
My jaw literally dropped.
"M-mate? me?"
Jaxon chuckled.
"I'm his beta, and quite frankly, his best friend. He couldn't keep a secret from me even if he tried."
"So you know all his secrets?"
"Yes. And I'm not sharing them. "
"I never asked you to. But, that means you know the real Hunter, everything he's ever done."
"And everything he's ever regretted."
"Hunter regrets?" And here I thought he was 100 percent monster.
"I know he regretted how he treated you in the beginning." He did?
"If he regrets that, then why is he still mean to me?" I felt like a 6 grader complaining about their bully.
"You have to remember that he's still an Alpha. It's instincts to be strict, and dangerous. He's very powerful, but he would never hurt someone he loves."
Too late. Apart from all he's done to me, how could I ever forget about Emily?
He killed her mate. Now that is something that can never be forgiven.
"So, are you going to just sit here all day?" It was then that I realized that we were parked in my drive way.
When I didn't move, he jokingly said, "Get out of my car."
I opened the door and stepped out.
"Hey, Rose," I look up at Jaxon.
"Give him a chance." He didn't wait for my reply. Reaching over, he shut the door and left with a wave.
Give him a chance? I wouldn't know where to start.
Walking into my house, I sling my bag to the side.
"I'm home!" I scream loudly.
"Mom?"
"Soph?"
"Buzz?"
"Did you just quote Home alone?" Startled by Soph's voice, I slightly jump.
"What are you doing home? I usually get home before you." Soph was already changed from her earlier clothes.
"That's cuz I didn't walk, I got a drive."
"From who?" Instead of replying to my question, Soph walks to the kitchen and opens the fridge.
"By who, Soph?"
"Greg."
"What!" I swear she told me she thought Greg was a killer.
"Eric was there! We usually walk home but Eric was getting a ride, and I couldn't say no."
"And why couldn't you?" I didn't mind that Greg gave Soph a ride, but I found it amusing that she claimed she hated him, then trusted him to take her home.
"Cuz Eric would ask questions."
"And god forbid if Eric asks questions," I joke.
"Well I couldn't just tell him, no thanks, your brother's a killer."
"Soph," I warn.
"You shouldn't spread rumours."
"Too late." Soph takes out some vegetables from the fridge.
"What are you talking about?"
"Haven't you seen Greg?"
"No," I feel slightly embarrassed.
Perhaps I should have checked up on him. I just thought he would have wanted some time.
"Well then a good thing at that, you wouldn't want to. He had bruises all over his face."
"Why?" I suddenly became more alarmed.
"I'm not the only one who thinks he killed that girl. People have been giving him a hard time."
"Wow, you almost sound like you feel bad."
she shrugs.
"Only for Eric, that's his brother, it must be hard for him." I sigh.
"Mom and Jake will be home early today. Maybe we can order out and have a little movie night? Kinda like a family."
I nod at her request.
"Yeah, that sounds good. Especially since I'm moving into Hunter's tomorrow."
Soph froze as she was washing the vegetables.
"You're really leaving us?" I knew Sophia was trying to cover the hurt she felt, but it was clear as day.
"You know I don't have a choice Soph, for Greg-"
"What about us!" Soph's voice raised, but she didn't turn to look at me.
"I can't let him die, Soph, I'm not a killer. That's just not me. Plus, it's not permanent. I'll find a way out. Don't worry about it."
"Who's worried? Not me."
A laugh escapes my lips.
"You sure it's not you?" I tease.
"Nope. Maybe mom."
"Oh please, enlighten me."
"Was that a 50 shades of grey reference?"
"How do you know 50 shades of grey? You're too young for that."
"I just saw the trailer, sheesh."
"Oh Soph, you're so cute." Pulling at her cheeks, she get's annoyed and splashed water on me.
"Hey! Stop! Or I'll ruffle your hair again. How was picture day anyways?"
"Fine," She muttered.
*Â Â Â Â *Â Â Â Â *
"And that was when Rose, here, walks out then comes back a minutes later with a gas mask."
"Mom," I complain.
"And that's just the first time Soph pooped. Another time, at the park-"
"Mom!" Soph complained.
"Well, I think that's enough baby stories. Movie anyone?"
Jake, my mother, Soph and  I are all crowding around our family room, telling stories and just sharing moments.
I was surprised when my mother wasn't angered by my news. She was however, sad about it. She said she understood. Hunter was my mate, he'd do anything to keep me close. Eventually I would have had to move out anyways.
And thus began the embarrassing stories.
"What should we watch?"
"Scary!" Soph yells, excitingly.
"The Woman in Black should be out on rogers ," Jake adds.
"Let's watch it!" Soph yells again.
"Really, scary? What if you guys get night mares?"
"Mom, we're not kids!" Soph argues.
"I think what your mother is trying to say, is that she will get nightmares."
A tint of a blush reached my mothers cheeks, and Jake teased her some more.
It was a warming sight. To see the people that I care most for, all in one room, all happy.
Today may in fact be the last day I'm sleeping in this house, but I know for a fact that this will not be my last memory here.
But it is a darn good memory.
