Chapter 15
Before driving back home, I decide to pick up Soph a little earlier today. Maybe even surprise her by taking her out for ice cream.
Driving up to her school, I see the parking lot fairly full from all the teachers cars. Nonetheless, I still find an empty space by the entrance.
Walking down the halls of her school, I see lots of cut out trees and snowflakes.
I smile, loving the holiday spirit.
Our winters don't usually get so snowy so there's lots of other festive things done that bring everyone into the spirit.
I try clearing my mind from the memories of earlier at school.
If I don't then I might take out my stress on Soph, and I absolutely hate when people do that.
"Excuse me, sorry to bother you, I just wanted to sign out my little sister. Her name Is Sophia Edwards."
The secretary in the office nodded, then started clicking her mouse.
"Sophia Edwards?" She asked.
"Yup! That's S-O-P-H-I-A."
"Yes, I see that but, well, that's odd."
Her eyebrows furrow and her face looks confused.
"What?" I ask impatiently.
"She has already been signed out."
"What! That's not possible. My mom's at work and I'm the only other person who can pick her up."
"Are you sure you mom didn't?"
"Yes."
"Well then let me have a look at the sign out sheet."
She gets up from her chair and comes towards me. Walking past me to the small table in the corner, she picks up the green binder.
"S... Sophia Edwards! There it is." Her bright smile quickly formed to a frown.
"You're right. It wasn't you mom you picked her up. It was our Alpha."
"Hunter?" I foolishly ask.
"Huh?"
"I mean, Alpha Hunter. Wait, that's not possible. He wasn't on the list to pick her up. Only my mother and I can."
She laughed. Like really laughed. Like the kind of laugh that someone does that is embarrassing for them but makes you want to join them.
"He's Alpha. He can do what ever he wants," She finally says as she wiped the tears from her eyes.
"That wasn't even funny," I mutter quietly.
"Anyways! So you are telling me that you let my 13 year old sister leave with a stranger?"
"He is not a stranger. He is the Alpha."
"He's still a stranger to Soph."
"Hey! What Alpha says, I do! Now shoo! I need to get back to work."
"Oh really, and what do you even do? Sit around eating food and do god knows what on the computer of yours?"
She didn't seem offended.
"Exactly." The lady starts directing my towards the exit.
"Did he at least say why he's picking her up, or where they're going?" I didn't like the thought of Soph being tapped defenseless with the wicked Hunter.
She shrugs, "I dunno. It wasn't my shift till after noon."
"Ugg you're all so useless!"
The secretary paced very fast, each step making a tap.
"Hey! This isn't the end. I'll be telling all my mom about this, and she'll tell all the other moms!"
"And they will all tell you how unreasonably you are thinking. Alpha Hunter, is a Alpha. There is no way that I could ignore his demands, even if I wanted to. Which I don't."
I bite down on my tongue to keep myself from swearing at her.
"I don't care who Hunter is, you can't just let a student leave without their families consent."
She began to become angry.
"Your first thought should be to care for our Alpha. He has, after all, saved us all."
Oh god, not her too!
"Don't tell me he's manipulated you as well. It's all a lie! Can't you see? He kills people! He doesn't care about anyone but himself. He's selfish and evil."
We are now just by the doors.
"Get out," She demands angrily, pointing towards the exit.
"Okay, I'm going. I'm going! But I'm just telling you now, if Soph get's hurt, it's on you."
She shakes her head hysterically.
"What do you want me to do? I couldn't have said no. No one can say no to Alpha Hunter."
"Yes they can!" I argue back.
"Oh really? Prove it."
"I... I said.. I.." If I told her I had said no to Hunter, she would ask how.
And then why.
And there is no way that I would tell this lady that he's my mate.
"I know some one who has, and honestly, I'll say no to him any day."
"Oh please, the other day I saw girls your age practically dropping to their knees for him!"
Girls would drop to their knees for him?
Something bubbled in the pit of my stomach.
Was I jealous?
"Just.. go. Go find your sister." I make eye contact with the lady, and she doesn't smile or act amused.
"Go," She ushers.
I follow her instructions and go to my car.
Before I start driving, I take out my phone.
Well great!
I want to call Hunter except I don't have his number!
Looking through my contacts, I search for anyone who could help me.
Just as my eyes scanned past the My column, I froze.
"What the!"
There in my contact list was the name, My strong sexy mate.
Well.. I take that back. I guess I do have Hunter's number.
Not wasting anymore time wondering how his number got there, I dialed.
I didn't even bother changing the name.Finding Soph is more important.
"Hello?" At first, the calm yet lazy voice pushed me off track. It sounded like Hunter, yet it didn't at the same time.
I was so used to Hunter yelling and being mad that I had forgotten how he sounded regularly.
or maybe I'm just having a really off day.
"Hello?" He asked again, this time less patiently. There's the Hunter I know!
"Hunter?" I asked.
I don't know why I asked. I knew it was Hunter from the moment he spoke.
I blame it on the mate connection.
"Rose?" He asked this time more alarmed.
"Where's my sister?"
"Ouu, someone sounds angry," He mocked.
"Just tell me if she's with you, safe."
"She's with me," He confirmed.
"I swear to god, Hunter, if you do anything to her-"
"You'll what? Send your little boyfriend off on me.. Oh wait.. I kicked him to the curb." Hunter then laughed, as if he had just heard the most funniest joke.
"I'll hurt you," I reply in a menacing tone.
It's a weak threat. As if I could ever hurt an almighty Alpha.
"I'd like to see you try," Hunter teased.
"Look- Just don't do anything to her. I'm coming to get her. Where are you guys?"
"You should have more faith in me, I would never hurt my mate's little sister. I'm at my house, I'll me waiting!"
I was prepared to yell at him but never got the chance. He had hung up the second he spoke his last word.
I already know where Hunter lives. I had gone there the time I was stuck in a cell and found a key to escape.
I drove towards Hunter's house with thoughts from that night stuck in my head.
Who on earth is sending me all those creepy gifts?
That night in the jail cell, all the guards were passed out. Alive. But still...
Who ever this wolf is, they have to be strong. Or perhaps it isn't just one wolf, maybe there's more of them. What if it isn't even a wolf!
So many unanswered questions, the more I thought, the more my head ached.
I was so into my thoughts that I hadn't realized I had already arrived and parked in Hunter's house.
Well that was weird and totally not safe. Was I driving all this time?
"Soph? Sophia?" I don't bother knocking. I just want to see that Soph is okay.
"Rose?" I follow Soph's voice and see her standing in the kitchen.
She's holding a plate filled with two sandwiches.
She placed it down on the counter and runs to me.
Too stunned to move at first, I eventually hug her back.
"Don't be mad," She whispers in my ear.
"I'm not mad at you, Soph, I'm mad at him. Where is he anyways?"
"He upstairs. He's coming now. You're gonna be mad at me." Soph kept glancing at everything but me, her hands were clenched together as if she was nervous.
"Relax, Soph. I told you, this isn't your fault. It's Hunter's." I start wandering around the house in search of him.
"No, wait!" She runs to me and grabs my arm.
"I called him. I told him to get me."
"And why would you do that?" Soph wasn't making any sense.
"I told him, Rose."
"Told him what?" I try to keep calm, but the urgency in my words seep out.
"About what, Soph!"
She looks down before speaking, "About Greg and some other things-"
"YOU TOLD HIM ABOUT GREG!" I scream without thinking.
For a second, a look of fear passes through Soph.
"I'm sorry, okay! But it was the right thing to do."
"Right thing? Are you kidding me? He's going to kill Greg now, I thought you were smarter than this, Soph." I shake my head at her, showing her how disappointed I really am.
"No he won't! I'm not stupid. I decided to talk to Alpha Hunter about it and he made you a deal." Soph stood at a distance, but still allowed her gaze to meet mine.
"What kind of deal?" I ask skeptical.
"Well, he never really told me. He said he won't kill Greg. He'll make a deal but only with you. He wouldn't tell me anything else."
I didn't know what to say, and neither did Soph.
The short break of silence was cut by the loud steps of someone walking.
"So I see the introductions all out of the way. Now, Rose, I think we need to discuss a few things." Hunter looked me dead in the eyes, no amusement was shown.
He must be angry. I mean.. I was going behind his back... Behind the pack as well.
"Soph, why don't you go and sit in the car."
"I can-" One sharp look from me, and Soph grabbed the keys from my hands and hurried off.
"Follow me." Hunter started walking and it took me a second to realize he was talking to me.
"Take a seat."
We both sat around the dining table.
"When you were talking to me on the phone, you said you kicked Greg to the curb. Why would you still pretend like you didn't know?" That question had bothered me since the moment he had said those words.
"Boredom."
His answer wasn't serious, but that's all I got.
"Are you going to kill Greg?"
I'm too tired to wait, I just wan't to know what's going on.
"I should, shouldn't I? It actually depends on you and what you decide."
After a few seconds, he spoke again.
"Let's make a deal."
He waits for my reaction, but continues when doesn't see one.
"You have a choice. A, you and your sister go back home and enjoy the rest of your day while I take Greg and kill him." I gasp at his cruelty.
There is no way I'm letting him kill Greg.
"OR, I don't kill Greg."
He finished his sentence but I knew there's more to it.
"You move in, here, with me. You get your own room. Your own bathroom. You don't even have to look at me, but you will be living under my roof."
"And Greg lives?"
"And Greg lives."
So I had to live in his house.. And he wouldn't kill Greg.
"What kind of deal is that!"
"A very good one. There shouldn't even be a deal. I should have killed that mutt the second he spoke to you."
I scowl at him. Why can't he just do something nice, because he wants to be nice?
"You're selfish, you know that right?"
"Yes, and I'm a monster and an asshole and a sexy beast-"
"No, not the last one," I mutter.
"Now, what's it going to be?"
The ache in my head returns, adding to the stress that I feel.
"I kill Greg and you can go home, or move in with me and Greg gets to live?"
I didn't know what to say, but one thing is for sure, there is no way I'm letting Greg die for something he didn't do.
And I'd rather move to Alaska than live under Hunter's roof.
My head felt worse, almost as if I was light-headed now.
Taking a few deep breaths, I calmed down enough to say,
"I pick-"
