Epilogue

----------
Itâs already past midday, but Evan and I are still lying in bed. For the past few minutes he has been teasing me endlessly about the fact that I am old now. And I would have minded it if someone else had said it to me, but itâs Evan and he can say basically anything to me.
âYouâre old.â Evan says again from where his headâs resting on my chest. He chuckles a bit to emphasize how funny he finds it and I canât help but shake my head in amusement.
âBut if Iâm old I canât do anything on my own anymore.â I say and he looks up at me with a playful look.
âWell old man, I think that itâs time to get out of bed and make you lunch then.â He tries to pull away from me, but I let out a whine and refuse to loosen my grip on him.
âWe do have to come out of bed Alex.â He says seriously and I try to give him the cutest look I can do.
âNu-uh that wonât work, I am starving.â He says overdramatically while pushing me away from him. As soon as heâs free he runs across the room to our joined bathroom. I let out one last groan before pushing myself up and getting out of bed. I put on some comfortable clothes for the day and once Iâm done Evan emerges from the bathroom.
âIâll go and make some lunch as long as you promise to finally shave your hideous beard.â Evan says it with a smile and I canât help but laugh at his tactics. Heâs been so persistent about me shaving the damn thing off and I canât help it but to let it grow.
âI will shave it off, if I get a brownie from you for lunch.â He pretends to think about it for a second, but with a determined nod he walks out of the room.
Within fifteen minutes Iâm completely shaved and so I go downstairs only to come face to face with an almost proud looking Evan. Heâs stirring in the bowl of batter while looking down at a newspaper thatâs lying on the counter.
âTheyâre still talking about you, you know?â Evan says softly as he realizes that Iâm in the room with him.
âWhat are they saying, love?â I ask him as I wrap my hands around his waist. Instead of explaining it to me he pushes the paper closer to me and I smile as I see a picture of Evan and me in the park on the front of the paper.
âDonahew goes gay, business keeps getting better.â
The moment I came out to the public the internet exploded. Iâm not a really famous person, but since I run a big business people are really interested in what you do. To Evan and my biggest surprise more people came to my business, just because they were looking for someone who was going through the same things. They all thought that if I were gay, I could be trusted.
A whole different story was the one about my parents. The second they heard about my sexuality they broke all contact with me, but of course not before they told me what an abomination I really am. It had hurt me at first, I was devastated about the fact that they were so disgusted by me, but that soon vanished as Evan let me realize they were not worth my time.
Together we moved away, to a small city about a half an hour away from the office. I was able to afford a decently sized home and since I am not good with decorating I let Evan do the furnishing. And I think this is the first time in my life that Iâm truly living in a home, with someone I genuinely love.
âI love how they say that Iâve gone gay.â Evan lets out a cute giggle at my words and I smile as I hear the genuine tone behind it.
âWill you go on a date with me?â I ask him once weâre seated at our dinner table and Evan looks up at me with big eyes, his mouth still full of his sandwich. He swallows quickly before answering me and I canât help but laugh at his sweet reaction.
âIâd love to. Where are you taking me old man?â
âDinner.â I answer vaguely and he smiles knowingly at me.
âLuigiâs pasta!?â I roll my eyes at him and give him a sheepish laugh.
âMaybe.â
Evanâs resting against me as small snores leave his mouth, we decided to binge watch some weird shows and half way into the second episode he gave up and fell asleep. My phone goes off and I look at it confusedly as I see Charlotteâs name flashing on it. I pick it up nonetheless, curious as to what she has to say.
âAlexander.â I mutter softly as I put the phone against my ear and I can hear Charlotte let out a squeal from the other side.
âHe asked me to live with him!â Charlotte screams and I smile as I hear the excitement in her voice.
Charlotte had been so keen on not spending time with anyone that at one point I forced her to go and meet people. On a random night out she met some nerd named Patrick, heâs just like her and I think theyâre the perfect match.
âOh and what did you say?â I try to keep my voice excited for her sake and she seems to like it as she keeps talking on about it. After ten minutes of listening to her I finally get the chance to speak and somehow I canât stop myself from asking the same thing as I always do.
âHow are mom and dad?â I ask her hesitantly and I can almost see her sympathetic expression.
âThey are great actually, saw them yesterday at the church for dinner. I donât think you should worry about them so much Alex. On other terms, howâs Evan?â Even though I am aware of the fact that they are doing fine without me, it still hurts. And I appreciate the fact that Charlotte asks about Evan, but I know she still doesnât agree with my way of living. She probably never will. And so we talk for a little bit more before we say our goodbyeâs. I am glad that I can still talk to her, because sheâs simply still really important to me. Just when I put my phone away Evan wakes up and he looks up at me with sleepy eyes.
âShall we get ready?â I ask nervously, but he doesnât seem to catch up on it. With a small nod he rolls off me and makes his way upstairs, me following behind him with shaking hands.
âThis is not really made for date food, is it now?â I ask Evan as he daps away the red sauce around his mouth. He gives me the fakest hurt look he can master before speaking up.
âSpaghetti is always good. Donât you dare say something so mean towards the best invention of this universe.â I shake my head in amusement while my fingers are softly drumming over the bump in my jeans pocket. As the waiter picks up our empty plates I wait anxiously for the right moment. It feels like an eternity before the big cake comes into the room, a big fire fountain standing on top of it. Evan looks at me with excitement clear on his face and as heâs distracted by the cake I slowly get on one knee, my hand reaching into my pocket. And just as I push the lid of the jewelry box open Evan turns back to me. He just stares at me, almost as if heâs processing if itâs really true. And then I just start speaking, while all the eyes in the room are pointed on the two of us.
âEvan you seriously are the love of my life and I donât think Iâll be able to spend another day of my life without you by my side. Will you do me the honor of marrying me?â As the words roll of my tongue the tears form in his eyes and his hands cover his mouth. Without a warning he jumps towards me and wraps his arms around me.
âYes, yes I want to marry you!â He says and tears fall down my eyes as the words process in my mind. Now Iâll officially be his and not even the law will be able to stop me now.
âI love you.â I whisper as I pull him tighter against me.
