Demon in Ruins (Dark Choices #1)✔

Bonus Chapter

-Victor-

I plucked a rose from the garden and the thorn hurt my finger, drawing blood out of it. I smiled. It was a sad smile.

Karen was going back to where she came from. I couldn't stop her. My stupid brother had been emotional when he took the decision. The decisions taken from heart were always wrong. To me, the decisions taken from heart were useless.

I walked towards mother's room. I had to talk to her. I had to stop Karen somehow if possible.

"Everybody wants you alive, Karen." Mother was saying.

The voice of her sweet laughter came but I knew something sinister was behind it.

Karen was in the room, looking beautiful and lively as she always did. Her cute brown eyes and untied dark hair were not only the best features but the feature that made my dead heart beat widely.

I clearly remembered the taste of her lips on mine. I wish I could kiss her just once more. But she considered me a monster with no love inside of me.

I entered the room.

"Mother, I would like to have a conversation with you." I said.

Karen turned around to see me. I nodded.

"I'll be happy to hear you, Victor." She replied. "You may speak."

I looked at Karen who was looking at me suspiciously. I heard her thoughts. What kind of girl considered me handsome and never confessed her love for me? Those girls were rare. Karen was one of them. I was handsome in her eyes but she didn't love me.

"This girl here has to be gone in order for me to talk." I said less rudely.

I saw her flinch. She was angry.

"You should never talk like this in front of a guest." Mother said in a low voice. "That's not what I taught you."

Yeah, right. You taught me to be manipulating and calculative.

"I apologize." I exhaled. "Can I talk to you?"

"Karen, do you have to ask anything or tell anything?" Mother asked her. "My son wants to talk to me."

"Oh, yeah." Cute. "Have the talk. I'm leaving."

I smiled at her but didn't get it back.

When she had vanished completely from our sight I began.

"You said it was a foolproof plan. If I hadn't reached there they would have killed her." I whisper— screamed.

Mother turned to me. There was always a shine and look of dignity on her face. I respected her for being my mother but never respected for a person. She was playing dirty games and I was...involved.

"She survived though." She whispered.

"The vampire was going to kill them both." I said, clenching my jaw in anger. "What kind of plan was that supposed to be?"

"He wouldn't have killed them." She simply replied.

"Right, how do you know?"

"He was ordered to do his job not kill them in cold blood."

"Did you get what you wanted?" I scoffed.

"Yes, indeed." She smiled. It was colder than my body temperature. "She became what she was always destined to. The powers in her rouse when she attacked the vampire to save you. The plan couldn't have been better."

We had made the plan together. She wanted me to do something to awaken the powers of the witch in Karen. She suggested me to find the vampire who was looking for revenge from Nathan. The attachment between Nathan and Karen was the object of alluring Nathan out of the dimension.

The plan was to bring Nathan and threaten Karen. But the vampire, who was assigned for the job, duped us. He wanted to kill Nathan.

"I could have been killed. The vampire hunters knew we were there." I hissed.

"That's your problem. I thought you could handle it." She said shooting me a look of disappointment. "I wouldn't want you dead. It's good that the girl saved you."

"I could take care of myself." I rolled my eyes. "I didn't need her to save me."

Maybe I did. The attack was impromptu. The hunter had attacked without any warning. We hadn't included hunters in our plan. I had no idea where they had come from. It was supposed to be a vampire gathering, along with a witch of course. If she hadn't got her powers, I could have been dead.

It was very funny that they were torturing Nathan to lure out Karen's power but the moment when the hunter was going to backstab me, she became a full witch.

I saw the green energy sparkling all around her. She was glowing. It was a scene I could never forget.

But the thing was...they were in danger. If I hadn't reached the place in time, the crazy vampire could have killed both of them. I didn't care if Nathan died but I couldn't say the same for Karen. I had to save her even if I was hurt in the process. Well, no other vampire could fight me. They were weak.

The hunters were trained to kill us. They would have been looking for the club since years. But why didn't they come in a group?

"She could have died." I muttered.

"Since when did you start caring about that girl, Victor?" She asked in surprise.

Since a very long time. I wanted to say but remained silent. For everyone I was a heartless vampire who didn't know what love was. I couldn't prove them wrong.

"Your plan was to awake the powers in her." I said softly. "Now that has been done. Then why are you allowing Nathan to send her back to the other dimension?"

She nodded her head while listening to me. She got up from the chair and touched my shoulder. There was certain wickedness in her eyes. She was a powerful vampire and she could have stopped Nathan from sending Karen back but she obviously had other plans.

"Let's just say, this is another plan." She whispered in my ear as if telling me a secret.
