Chapter 32
Love’s Cunning Ruse ( Mr.Kieran And Julie )
Chapter 32
Daphne noticed that Julieâs eyes were a bit red when she came back.
Ignoring her own wounds, she propped herself up and looked at Julie, feeling concerned. âJulie, what happened? Did the guy my mom introduced to you treat you badly?â
With that, Daphne started to get up.
Julie quickly grabbed Daphneâs hand with a smile, shaking her head. âNo, the guy was just a bit oddâ
Daphne pulled Julie to sit beside her on the bed. âThen why are your eyes red? Donât tell me youâve got sand in them.â
âMy eyes are red because of the wind, you believe that?â
âDid Mr. Hernandez show up again?â Daphne thought for a moment, figuring that was the only explanation for Julieâs red eyes.
Julie didnât deny it, instead, she took a deep breath and said, âDaphne, I still havenât found a job.â
âOh yeah, I asked about that for you.â Daphne suddenly said seriously, âOur companyâs HR department is hiring. The salary isnât high, but the benefits are decent. Why donât you give it a shot? I can put in a good word for you. No biggie. Youâre not doing anything right now anyway, you might as well work. If a better job comes along, you can always jump ship.
Julie thought Daphne made sense, so the very next morning she put on her professional attire and went to apply at the HR department
The head of HR, Jordyn, was a man in his forties with a big belly. He wore a white shirt with a black tie that looked like it might strangle him at any moment. His oily smile made Julie feel slightly sick.
The same white shirt and tie suddenly reminded Julie of Kieran.
It was true that forgetting did require effort.
Jordyn on the other side asked some questions, but Julieâs mind was full of Kieran. So much so that she didnât even pay attention to Jordynâs questions.
So, Julie had to awkwardly look at Jordyn, âSorry, what were you saying?â
âI was saying that with your qualifications, applying for a receptionist position seems like a waste.â Jordyn said.
After looking at Jordynâs greasy smile, Julie understood what he meant. She politely asked Jordyn, âThen do you have a position that would suit me?â âActually, weâre short of an HR assistant. The new hire will work directly under me. Iâm offering you this special opportunity because you know Ms. Daphne, so think about itâ¦â
Before Jordyn could finish, Julie smiled at Jordyn and asked, âCan you tell me about the job?â
âWellâ¦â Jordynâs hand slowly reached for Julieâs hand on the table, eventually landing on the back of Julieâs hand and gently caressing it.
Julie took a deep breath. After all, this was a job opportunity that Daphne had given her. If she stood up and slapped Jordyn, it would be extremely disrespectful.
*Sorry, your
hand is a bit rough; it makes me uncomfortable.â
After saying that, she quietly pulled back her hand, took a tissue from her bag, and carefully wiped her fingers. Then she stood up, turned around, and walked out with her head held high.
She needed money, and she needed a job. For money and work, she could swallow her pride, but that didnât mean she wouldnât respect herself. Just as Julie walked out of the magazine office, a lowâkey white Jaguar suddenly stopped in front of her.
