Chapter 248
Love’s Cunning Ruse ( Mr.Kieran And Julie )
Chapter 248
Fred was taken aback by the conditions Kieran proposed. He had been hired by Kieran for a hefty fee, so he figured Kieran should be willing to meet any conditions he proposed.
But to his surprise, Kieran was adamant about one particular issue.
Kieran looked at Fred and said, âPlease understand, professor, that this patient had always been treated by Dr. Brice Tranquil Care Hospital, even Dr. Brice resigned from another hospital to Tranquil Care Hospital for the sake of the patient. Dr. Brice knows this patientâs condition better than anyone else. I know youâre not a fan of working with people you donât know, but having someone who knows the patientâs condition working with you should be a good thing, right? What do you think, professor?â
It was clear that Kieran was insistent on having Dr. Brice involved with this patient.
The professor didnât respond immediately. Instead, he turned to look at Alvin.
Alvin promptly wheeled a chair over and placed it in front of the professor.
The professor stared at the coffee on the table, nodded slightly, and said with a serious expression, âI reckon Iâve had too much coffee. Mr. Hernandez doesnât mind if I go to the bathroom first?â
âOf course.â Kieran stood up and approached the professor, ready to help, but the professor blocked him. The professor smiled at Kieran and said, âNo need to, trouble yourself, Mr. Hernandez. Alvin can help me.â
With that, the professor looked at Alvin, who immediately wheeled the professor towards the restroom.
Vanessa stayed put, standing on the other side of the room.
Kieran glanced at Harding, who got up, patted Kieran on the shoulder, and said, âIâm gonna go for a smoke.â
After saying that, Harding left the room.
Kieran took out his phone and started fiddling with it.
After Harding left, he nodded at Karl at the door. He lit a cigarette but didnât take a drag. Instead, he leaned in close to Karlâs ear and whispered, âRestroom.â
Karl pressed a button on his walkie-talkie and said, âRestroom.â
Dylan stood at the staircase, dressed in a white chefâs uniform with a chefâs hat and a mask covering his face.
-Upon hearing the message from the walkie-talkie, he quickly walked into the restroom. He followed closely behind the professor and then entered a stall, where he
started recording.
After the professor had Alvin check the surroundings to make sure none of Kieranâs people were around, he took out his phone and dialed Kyleâs number.
âMr. Hernandez insists on having the patientâs previous primary doctor by my side⦠Yes, I havenât agreed yet⦠Yes, Iâm sure thereâs nobody from Mr. Hernandezâs side around me⦠So, what should I do now?⦠Okay, I understand! I promise I wonât let the patient wake up. I want to hear my daughterâs voiceâ¦
In the restroom, Dylan accidentally overheard the professorâs conversation.
Through a quick glance, Dylan saw the professor angrily throw his phone against the wall.
Alvin immediately picked up the shattered phone. The professor took it from him and casually tossed it into the trash can.
Then, he saw the professor wheel himself out of the restroom, with Alvin hurrying to follow.
Dylan looked at the phone in the trash can and sent a message to Kieran. He quickly received a reply from Kieran.
He took a pair of gloves from his pocket, put them on, reached into the trash can, picked up the shattered phone, and put it into a bag, grumbling, âIf youâre gonna smash it against the wall, just smash it against the wall! Why do you have to throw it in the trash? What a hassle.â
As Dylan complained, he put the bagged phone in his pocket.
After a smoke break, Harding nodded to Karl at the door and returned to the room.
Alvin wheeled the professor into the room, just as Harding was sitting down. He asked, âDid Dr. Ladd also step out for a bit?â
Harding chuckled and nodded, âI went out for a smoke.â
The professor studied Hardingâs hand and said, âDr. Ladd, your hands donât look like those of a habitual smoker.â
âI donât smoke that often, just occasionally,â Harding replied.
The professor didnât pursue the topic. He had a knowing look on his face as he turned to Kieran and said, âI hope I didnât keep you waiting too long, Mr. Hernandez.â
âI hope your answer will be worth the wait,â Kieran responded with a smile..
Dr. Brice watched the two intelligent men. Neither of them was easy to deal with.
The professor laughed, âMr. Hernandez, youâve gone to great lengths to seek me out so many times. This patient must be very important to you.â
âYes, sheâs someone my wife cares deeply about,â Kieran replied.
The professor seemed to understand and nodded, âI see. In that case, I canât let your wife down. Youâre right, Mr. Hernandez. Since Dr. Brice knows the patient the best, his involvement in the treatment process will certainly be beneficial. Donât you agree, Dr. Brice?â
Dr. Brice smiled and nodded, âAbsolutely.â
âThen I have one request, and I hope Mr. Hernandez can accommodate me, the professor said.
Kieran nodded, âGo ahead.â
âSince youâve asked me to treat this patient, I want Dr. Brice to act only as an assistant doctor. That is to say, Dr. Brice canât interfere with the main treatment process.â
Kieran remained silent and didnât respond to the professorâs questions immediately.
The professor continued to explain, âI hope you can trust my professionalism, Mr. Hernandez. At present, I donât trust any other professionals to adopt my methods to treat other patients.â
In short, the professor didnât want Dr. Brice to learn his techniques.
After a moment of silence, Kieran nodded with a smile, âYou have my word on that, professor.â
âThen letâs make this a successful collaboration.â The professor extended his hand to Dr. Brice.
Dr. Brice stood up and shook hands with the professor.
1
Kieran had previously expressed his willingness to cooperate with the professor, and the fee had already been agreed upon.
Kieran asked again, âProfessor, any other suggestions for the previous agreement? Itâs never too late.â
The professor shook his head with a smile, indicating his satisfaction.
After dinner, Kieran arranged for Karl to take the professor back to his hotel.
Suddenly, Dylan appeared, wearing a mask.
âSeems like any white robe suits you fine.â Harding joked.
Dylan rolled his eyes, then threw his recording device to Kieran, âWhoâs pissed you off this time?â
He pointed at the device and said, âYou guessed right. The professorâs daughter mightâve been kidnapped. He just made a phone call in the bathroom, looks like the person on the other end is the puppet master.â
Listening to the conversation Dylan recorded, the professorâs voice came out from the device.
He said he would act discreetly and wouldnât let Sansa wake up.
After hearing this, Dr. Brice frowned, âDo we still let the professor get close to Sansa?â
âSure,â Kieran confirmed.
Dr. Brice was puzzled, âFred has clearly stated he wonât save Sansa, as his daughter is in their hands, he would cooperate fully to save her. He will definitely follow their orders,/
âThatâs exactly why we should let the professor get close to Sansa,â Kieran said.
Harding seemed to understand. He looked at Kieran and asked, âYou want to understand the puppet masterâs motive through the professor, right?â
Kieran nodded, âWe still donât know why the people behind the professor want to harm Sansa, but itâs clear that their goal is to keep her from waking up. What would happen if Sansa wakes up? We want to know whether they just donât want her to wake up or they want to kill her. I think the professor can give us the
answer.â
Dylan nodded as well, âI see. You mean, if they really want to kill Sansa, even if we reject the professor now, theyâd send someone else. So we should keep the professor and start our investigation from him.â
Harding said, âMore precisely, maybe their current goal is just to keep Sansa from waking up. If they find out that the professor has told us, they might take immediate action and hire someone to kill Sansa. We wonât be able to guard against that.â
Dr. Brice nodded, âI see.â
âNext step might involve Dr. Brice.â Kieran said politely.
Dr. Brice laughed and shook his head, âItâs what I should do.â
âEnough with the politeness. Iâm hungry!â Dylan sat down and started ordering.
Dr. Brice laughed, âI have to go deal with my resignation. Iâll leave first.â
Harding said, âIâll go prepare too, and deal with Sansaâs hospital transfer. Call me if you need anything.â
When Harding and Dr. Brice had left, Kieran turned to Dylan, âWhereâs the phone?â
Dylan took out the broken phone from his pocket. He handed the pieces in a plastic bag to Kieran, âGet someone to fix it, maybe it can be fixed.â
âWhat?â Kieran took the phone and examined the damage carefully.
Dylan looked up, âGo find Payne. At least with him, Iâm not the worst.â
âYou guys are really close.â Kieran raised an eyebrow.
Dylan laughed, âWhat do you want to eat?â
âHow about I cook for you tonight?â Kieran suddenly sat opposite Dylan and looked at him seriously.
Dylanâs menu fell out of his hand. He looked at Kieran in shock, âKerry, whatâs this about? Do you need me to do something?â
âHonestly, I do need your help with something.â Kieran propped his cheek on one hand, looking at Dylan thoughtfully.
âI refuse!â Dylan was firm for the first time. He refused so fast, it was faster than flipping through a book.
