Chapter 180
Love’s Cunning Ruse ( Mr.Kieran And Julie )
Chapter 180
Davinaâs got a remote in her hand, hooked up to a tiny time-bomb strapped to the rope binding Julie. All itâll take is one click of that button and boom! The bomb detonates, rope snaps, and Julie takes a plunge.
Weâre talking a good dozen meters up. A fall from this height, Julieâs either a goner or sheâs looking at some serious injuries.
Davinaâs gripping the remote like her life depends on it, staring down Julie like a hawk, âEver watched someone you love die right before your eyes?â
She lets out a hearty laugh, her face twisted into a cruel smile, âYouâre about to find out! Kieranâs on his way. Youâre head over heels for him, right? Youâll know what it feels like soon enough!â
Despite Davina pushing her to the edge, Julie, tied up and all, keeps her cool.
âDavina, weâre both law students. You know what youâre doing has consequences, Julie said, her brows furrowed in concern. âIs it worth it? Youâre throwing your future away. Whatâs going on between us doesnât worth destroying both you and meâ¦â
âShut up!â Davina snatches a gun from a guy standing nearby, pointing it straight at Julie. âIf it werenât for your parents, my dad wouldnât be in prison; my mom wouldnât leave him and take me to Veridia. If it werenât for you, Rankin wouldnât be dead! This is all on you! You started all this!â
âYour father⦠is Latham Field?â Julieâs jaw dropped.
A few years back, Darcey took off with a bunch of cash, Padgett died of a stroke. Julie and Kieran were newlyweds. Sansa Abraham got into a car crash chasing after Darcey, and was fighting for her life in the hospital. The Abraham family was on the brink of bankruptcy. Kieran even had to handle Padgett and Darceyâs funerals. Julie spent her days by Sansaâs side, refusing to accept that she was practically a vegetable.
It wasnât until later that she found out her dad was involved in smuggling. The cops tracked down the smuggling gangs, and the Field family got caught up in the mess. The media only reported on Latham, keeping his family out of the limelight as they werenât involved in the smuggling or embezzlement.
Julie only connected the dots today when Davina brought it up.
Being tied up like this, Julie didnât exactly expect Davina to let her down easy.
So she fired back at Davina, âThe person responsible for your dadâs prison sentence is himself. Smuggling and drug dealing are serious crimes!â
âIf it werenât for your dad, my dad wouldnât have resorted to smuggling and embezzling!â Davinaâs clearly lost her marbles, spitting out words filled with years of resentment.
Julieâs eyes flashed with anger. âMy dadâs dead, Davina. Your dad at least has a chance to turn his life around. I didnât get to say goodbye to my dad, who should I blame for that? Your dadâs in prison for smuggling and drug dealing because he committed a crime! Look at yourself! How are you any different from a criminal?â
âShut up! You have no right to judge me!â
Suddenly, a gunshot echoes through the empty warehouse.
It felt like the bullet whizzed past Julieâs ear, shattering the window behind her. The sound of broken glass filled the air.
Julieâs heart skipped a beat.
âKieranâs on his way. Do you think heâll be devastated to see you fall?â Davinaâs completely lost it, seemingly finding some twisted pleasure from hurting Julie and Kieran.
Julie stayed silent for a moment, then she said, âMy life isnât as perfect as you think, Davina. Kieran doesnât love me. Even the child he announced on the news a couple of days ago isnât mine. Itâs Kieranâs and Bertha Stewartâs. Kieran betrayed me when I was pregnant. Weâve even been divorced
âYou think Iâll believe that?â Davina scoffs. âIf Kieran didnât love you, he wouldnât have signed that contract today. You know, that represents his lifeâs work and wealth. Without his shares in Simpo Co., heâd be left with nothing. You say he doesnât love you? A man who doesnât love you wouldnât give up everything heâs worked for to save your life.â
Davina laughs in disdain, âNo man whoâs loved you has had a good ending. Rankinâs dead, and Kieran wonât last long either.â
âRankin just went to study abroad!â Julie refused to accept the news of Rankinâs death.
In her memory, Rankin was a cool, aloof boy, but when he smiled, he had charming dimples. Whenever she got a question wrong, heâd tap her head lightly with his pen, showing his disapproval. To Julie, Rankin was like a brother.
âTo study abroad?â Davina laughs coldly. âYou just didnât care enough about him to know the truth. He didnât go to study abroad!â
The sarcasm in Davinaâs eyes confused Julie. If he didnât go to study abroad, why did he go to Veridia?
âRankin was diagnosed with leukemia. He went to Veridia for treatment. If it werenât for you getting my father locked up, if it werenât for us having to gather lawyerâs fees for my dad, if it wasnât for you, Rankin wouldnât be dead! You killed him, it was you!â
Davina couldnât keep her calmness. She blamed all her misfortunes on Julie.
At this moment, Julie hoped that Kieran wouldnât show up, let alone come alone following Davinaâs suggestion. Davina held the remote control. Julieâs fate was in Davinaâs hands. It wasnât until the moment of life or death that Julie finally saw through her own heart.
âEver heard the story of Romeo and Juliet?â Davina chuckled.
A sweet smile, but it looked twisted and ghoulish on Davinaâs face.
âRomeo and Juliet, their love was so deep! To be together, Juliet took a placebo, woke up to find Romeo killed himself because of her, so she couldnât bear it and killed-herself too. Why do you think this story has been passed down? Because itâs Shakespeareâs work? No, because the lovers went through pain, but still couldnât end up together. Thatâs how you and Kieran will end.â
Julie seemed to have predicted what Davina was about to do. Davinaâs eyes were filled with hatred and determination.
Julie couldnât stand it anymore, and shouted towards Davina, âDavina, itâs me who you should hate! Iâm the one who took everything from you. Kieran has
already signed the stock transfer contract. If you hurt me and Kieran, do you think youâll survive?â
âSurvive? Why should I? Iâve left a will. Iâm gonna die, and take you with me. After I die, the company will belong to my mom. She wonât be tortured by that man in Veridia anymore, wonderful! Hahaha, the really pitiful ones should be your kid! The kid without parents, will have it worse than me! Thatâs what you deserve!â
After Davina yelled out these words, Julie had a pretty good idea of what she was about to do.
From the moment she planned to kidnap Julie, she had no intention of surviving. She was ready to go down with Julie from the start.
âDavina, the one you really want to punish is me; the one you hate is also me. Kieran has nothing to do with this. Heâs innocent!â Julie suddenly started to struggle, her eyes red as she looked at Davina..
Davina burst out laughing, âWhat? Scared now? Werenât you acting nonchalant just now?â
âDavinaâ¦â
Before Julie could finish, the warehouse door was kicked open from outside. Julie and Davina both looked towards the doorway.
Two men behind Davina immediately aimed their guns at Kieran, then shielded Davina behind them. Three men in black by the door each held a knife, blocking Kieranâs approach.
âDonât come over!â Julie shouted at Kieran. She was tied to a chair and struggling hard.
Davina shot a bullet towards Julie and shouted, âShut up!â
Kieran shot a piercing glare at Davina. Davina felt like she was dying under Kieranâs gaze. Kieran snatched a knife from his bodyguard and threw it towards Davina. The knife accurately landed on the arm of one of Davinaâs bodyguards who was holding a gun.
After a muffled groan, the bodyguard squatted down in pain.
âIf you touch her again, Iâll make sure you donât get a proper burial!â Kieranâs voice was chillingly cold, like it came from hell.
Davina was past the point of any concern. She raised the remote control in her hand, then pointed to the other end of the rope, âIf you make another move, Iâll make sure Julie shatters instantly!â
Davina shot a cold glance at the bodyguard beside her, whispered something to him, though Julie couldnât hear what it was. Then, two trained men in black walked in from the door, one of them holding a vest filled with bombs handed it to Kieran.
âPut on this vest, or watch her die in front of you!â Davinaâs smile twisted, as if her inner madness was bloating.
Instinctively, Julie shouted at Kieran, âDonât! Donât wear it!â
Normally calm and collected, Julie was now like a runaway train, shouting at Davina, âDavina, no! If you have the guts/press it! Kieran wonât wear it!â
Davina ignored Julieâs roar, instead she turned the gun towards Julie, and then looked at Kieran mockingly, âDid you know that Rankin died in my arms for her? You didnât know, did you! If you love her, why canât you die for her? What a cheap love!â
