Chapter 49

Running Into You

They sat in the waiting room until Evan brought Liam and Brett into the interrogation room. They wanted to talk with Olivia first and get a sense of what happened for themselves.

Liam looked at the pretty young woman before him. She wasn’t beautiful and sexy like Maggie and Makayla, but she was pretty.

They could see how tired she was by the bags under her eyes. She was definitely pregnant but didn’t have the glow that Makayla had.

Liam sat next to Brett as he put his large hands over her small ones as they were handcuffed to the top of the table.

“Liv, this is Liam Olsen, my best friend from college. You remember him?” Brett asked gently.

“I do. Why are you here?” she asked.

“Hello, Olivia. I am here for two reasons: I’m a lawyer and want to offer you advice, and also, I am in love with your best friend. I know she will be crushed when she finds out about this…”

“You’re going to help me?” Olivia asked suspiciously.

“Yes, because I know that Maggie would not want you or your baby to suffer. So I am asking you to not fight extradition back to Florida.

“I can talk to the DA. The officer said you are having complications with your pregnancy, what are they?”

“I developed severe gestational diabetes and they are pretty sure I will be a diabetic after I deliver. They are watching me like a hawk so the baby doesn’t get too big. I am on a strict diet.” She took a breath as she started to cry again.

“I know that we made a huge mistake with what I did to my best friend, but I can’t lose my baby! He doesn’t deserve to suffer! Bear, I don’t want him to go into foster care!”

Liam looked at Brett, who was struggling to keep his composure. Liam sighed. He knew they needed to be held accountable for their actions, but didn’t want to ruin their lives.

“Let me talk to the sheriff and see about getting you a doctor,” he said as he got up to leave.

“So, you love, Maggie, Liam?” Olivia asked.

“More than you can ever know. We are getting married in October,” Liam stated proudly.

Brett stayed and talked with her, trying to calm her down. Liam went arranged for a doctor to visit and to move her to the medical ward so she could be monitored.

If all went as planned, they would be before a judge by nightfall and on their way back to Florida tomorrow night. Brett told him that he had an idea that he would work on later that night.

Liam asked to see Jason next. As much as he wanted to punch the man, he knew he had to keep his cool and asked Nick to come in with him, just in case.

They sat down at the table, and before Liam could say anything, Jason blurted out, “Is Olivia okay?”

Liam was surprised at his level of concern for the woman in the other room. “I have asked for a doctor to examine her and get her into the medical ward.”

“Thank you. Who are you?” Jason inquired.

“My name is Liam Olsen, I am a lawyer, and this is one of my colleagues, Nick Thomas. We are here to make sure you get back to Florida where you can pay for your crimes.”

“Fine, just make sure that Olivia and our baby are safe,” he demanded.

“I understand your concern and I will do everything I can to make sure they are taken care of.”

“I suppose that once I am back in Florida, I will have to see the bitch I allegedly stole from,” he sneered.

Nick took in a sharp breath and put a hand on Liam’s back. Liam narrowed his eyes. “Yes, you have a right to face your accuser, but are you sure you want to do that?”

“Sure, why not! I can look her in the eye and she can see that I knocked up her best friend under her nose. I’ll tell her what a lousy lay she was!” Jason spewed.

Liam slammed his hands on the table and abruptly stood up, knocking the chair backward, “You better watch your mouth if you want help for Olivia and your child! You just better watch it!”

Jason saw the way the man before him reacted and smirked. “Did I strike a nerve? She’s nice to look at, but the bedroom adventures go nowhere. She can’t even get off! So, save—”

Liam’s fist smashed into the cocky man’s cheek. His head snapped back as Nick jumped up and pushed Liam back.

“What the fuck is your problem, you stupid Brit? You want me to sue you?”

“The woman you just slandered is my fiancée and the mother of my child! I am here to help you, you fucking wanker, and your child! If you say one more word against her, I promise I will do everything in my power—which is considerable—to have you rot in prison, never able to see your son unless it’s through glass!”

Liam roared at Jason, who shrank back at his words, realizing that he had overstepped his bounds and could mess this up.

“Sorry, man, I won’t say another word. I had no idea that you were involved with Maggie,” he replied sheepishly.

Nick let his good friend go and they sat back down. Liam told Jason exactly what he needed to do and say. Jason listened and agreed to everything Liam said as long as he helped Olivia. Promising that they would, Liam and Nick rose and walked to the door.

“Why are you doing this? Helping me when I hurt Maggie?” Jason asked.

Liam turned and looked at him. “It’s not for you, it’s for that baby and Olivia. When Maggie finds out that a baby is involved, she will want to make sure that he is taken care of and safe.

“I want to make her happy and even though you didn’t realize the amazing person she is and the big heart she has, everyone else knows it.”

Jason lowered his head, and Liam couldn’t resist the temptation.

“And for the record, Maggie is incredible in bed and blows my mind every time. So I guess she just needed a real man to please her because she has never failed to rock my world!”

Liam slammed the door behind him. Nick shook his head as Evan laughed, having heard the conversation.

They waited until the doctor came and checked on Olivia, agreeing with the seriousness of her condition.

“I don’t recommend that she drive back to Florida if that’s something you can arrange. I will escort her to the medical ward and give some orders until she leaves.”

Brett thanked him, and the men went to eat, waiting for the court appearance later that night. Matthews, having finished his task, was going to check out of his hotel and head home. Liam thanked him and said a bonus would be in his account.

Brett had called Olivia’s mom to explain the situation, and she agreed to take the baby once he was born until Olivia got out of prison.

Liam arranged for a private jet to take them back down to South Florida after notifying the DA and the sheriff’s office about the situation.

The court hearing went as planned and both were remanded into custody and waived their right to fight extradition. They were to be returned home to face charges of felony theft and identity theft.

The men were exhausted and fell into bed the minute they returned to their hotel. It had been a hell of an emotional day.
