Chapter 20 What choice do I have?

Xia Meiren noticed that she was still hugging Lu Yifeng. She quickly leaned back and took a step away from him. She was about to apologize when she heard a soft sob which made her turn to Little Melon.

Little Melon’s eyes were full of tears but he didn’t cry out loud like a normal child will do. He sniffled, "Mello wasn’t able to protect dada and momma... Mello got scared."

Xia Meiren smiled a bit. "That’s okay, you were still able to protect me from getting pulled away by a ghost, remember? My Xiao Gua was so brave and strong!"

Little Melon turned to his mother with his tearful gaze and seeing this made Xia Meiren’s chest tighten in pain.

"B-but... the big scary ghosts..."

"They are too big, right? That’s alright, once Xiao Gua becomes big, you’ll be able to defeat them. For now, leave those big, scary ghosts to daddy. He defeated them all, right? That’s why we were able to come out alive." She was trying to console him.

A small smile appeared on Lu Yifeng’s lips when he heard what Xia Meiren said. He gently wiped the tears that formed on the side of his son’s eyes. "Mm, your mother is right."

"Then... when Mello becomes big and strong like dada, Mello will defeat all those ghosts!" Little Melon’s sad eyes were now replaced by eyes full of determination.

Seeing that their words were able to cheer Little Melon, both Xia Meiren and Lu Yifeng heaved out a small sigh of relief. They looked at each other but Xia Meiren was the first to break their eye contact.

Although it seems that she was still putting some distance between them, Lu Yifeng felt like he was able to make a tiny step closer to her. Even though it was just for a short while, he was happy that he was able to hold her in his arms. He wanted to make things right for them that’s why he will take whatever chances he has to come close to her.

Being cheered up, Little Melon was filled with liveliness again. It wasn’t long before Xia Meiren tried to coax Little Melon that it was time to go home.

Being tired from all the fun rides, Little Melon was able to fall fast asleep in the car. With Little Melon asleep, the car was quiet.

It was until the driver spoke up. "Sir, we’re being followed by a couple of cars."

Lu Yifeng understood what his driver meant. Just when he thought his day was going well, those group of thugs that are after his life arrived.

This was something normal for Lu Yifeng since this would happen to him every once in a while because of his twin brother’s connection to the underworld. Some were after Lu Xian Yu’s life but because Lu Yifeng is his brother, some would even target him just to bring Lu Xian Yu out.

The look on Lu Yifeng’s face darkened. What did Lu Xian Yu did this time? Lu Yifeng would always end up cleaning the mess his brother created but now that Lu Yifeng has a family, he can’t allow others to harm them. He should give Lu Xian Yu one good scolding once he comes back.

"You know what to do." Lu Yifeng said coldy as the atmosphere inside the car became frosty.

Noticing this, Xia Meiren couldn’t help but ask him, "What’s wrong?"

"We’re being followed." He said straightly as he turned to look at Xia Meiren. He didn’t dare hide the situation from her since if the worst thing happens, he needs her to follow his order. "Don’t worry, I won’t let any harm come to you or our son."

She didn’t panic but she was worried on what was to come. Because of Lu Yifeng’s look, she understood that the men that were following them were dangerous.

This could be one of her chance to gather some evidence against Lu Yifeng that’s why she secretly turned on the recorder in her pocket before she inquired, "Why are they following us?"

Lu Yifeng was looking out of the glass window to see the three cars that were speeding up to catch up to them. "Xian Yu loves making trouble." This was his only answer.

Xia Meiren was disappointed but because of his answer, she quickly understood that this people were after them because of the trouble Lu Xian Yu made.

Seeing that the black cars keep on following them, Lu Yifeng looked at Xia Meiren. "Do you trust me?"

She looked at his deep and sharp eyes. With the current situation they are in right now, she could only place everything in his hands. Even if she hates him, even if right now, he is still someone like a stranger for her, she knows how genuine he was with Little Melon and because of that, she was sure that he won’t let anything happen to Little Melon. "What choice do I have?"

He took a pair of gun under his seat and handed one to Xia Meiren. "Keep this for now."

Xia Meiren stared at the gun on her hand. She breathed in and out deeply as she tried to calm her racing heart.
