23-What is Happening?

Niao Niao finally pushes the crown prince and runs away. Her head refuses to think about anything. Not rules, not manners, she just wants to meet the emperor, because she knows it will makes her heart feels better.

Her breath are already heavy, but she keeps on pushing herself. When she finally sees the emperor, there's somehow a sense of relief. She smiles before burying her face on his chest.

"Niao Niao, what's wrong?" The emperor's voice is filled with compassion.

"..." she couldn't answer, she still needs to catch up on her breath.

The both of them doesn't care about weird stares from the head ministers.

He hugs her and kisses her forehead. The emperor knows something bad must happened, if not she won't act like this right?

"It's okay.. let's go back first." He says

"Your majesty," she stops, her heart is beating uncontrollably. "The crown prince of Lian is here. He is in our forbidden city.."

His shocked expression is so rare to see. The emperor's eyes grew bigger, why is that bastard here?! What is his plan?

"Niao Niao, lets go to my study." He pulls her closer and walks to his palace.

Niao Niao sits on the chair she always sit on, this familiar chamber. Now she's here as someone else.

"Bai Lu take some chamomile tea.." the emperor orders.

"Zhi."

"Niao Niao, make yourself comfortable.. you must have a hard day.."

"Here's the tea your majesty, my lady." Bai Lu puts the tea in front of Niao Niao. He secretly peeks at her face, is this the emperor's new lover? What is so good about her that can move the empress away from his majesty's heart?

That Niao Niao girl seems to be a normal concubine. The empress is on a different level! How could his majesty cheat on the empress?! Huh! Bai Lu is heated because of that. He somehow doesn't like her.

The emperor is only for the empress, period!

After a cup of tea, Niao Niao feels better.

"Is there anything else bothering your mind?"

This.. how is Niao Niao having so much luck compared to the empress?

As the time getting later, Niao Niao prepares to sleep. But the emperor is nowhere in this palace, where's is he?

The emperor is alone in his study, with only candle light accompanying his night.

Piles of scroll in front of him await to be read. His head hurts.

Even if he wants to, he can't sleep that night. So he decided to go meet his general.

"I must disturb him.." he thought. "But state matters first, right?" When he decides to go, Niao Niao sees him leaving with stroll reports.

*Knock knock*

"Who is it?"

"It's me."

"Oh! Your majesty, this servant apologise for-"

"Are you busy right now?"

"Erm.. no! Of course not!" The general is tying his inner robe. "What takes your majesty here?"

"This.." he opens up the strolls.

"Your majesty what tea do you want to drink?"

"This emperor doesn't mind."

The general quickly returned to his chamber, probably telling his wife that he can not finish what he started.

After five minutes, he comes with black tea on his hand.

"This emperor must be very disturbing.." the emperor murmurs

"Erm.. no, it's not like that.."

The emperor only smiles.

*knock knock*

Who is it now?

The general opens the door and find the empress there.

"Her majesty, please have a sit."

"Thank you.."

"Why are you here?" The emperor questions her.

"Why can't this empress can't be here?"

".." the general caught in the middle of royal fight!

"General, the Lian soldiers already camped 50 miles from the capital, they poisoned the river and their war decree must be on its way right now. So you have any plan?" The emperor starts, "and I got information that their crown prince is here, in the forbidden city."

"That's horrible! We only have less than half of our soldiers here.."

"They sure have the upper hand.."

"What if we ask the rest of our soldiers to come back?" The empress suggests

"This emperor doesn't think that's a good idea, our soldiers are not in a big group. If they come back, they will surely get killed in their way back."

"They didn't even stop to poison the river.." she says,

"This servant never expect them to play so dirty.." the general says in frustration.
