Chapter 44

42. Meeting The Resistance

DYSPHORIA

~3rd person POV~

The London sky had been enriched with smoke and the air was so heavy with tension that any second it felt like the city was about to snap.

And snap it did.

At 21:00 protestors, both transgender and cisgendered alike took to the streets. Each holding small led candles lit in pink, blue, and white, in remembrance of all who have fallen and in resistance to those who were persecuted.

The location of the Gala was their destination set by Kaeden Tremblay. In peaceful protest without bearing arms or threats, the protesters marched.

But surrounding the massive charity event were heavy armored patrols ready to shoot on sight. Snipers lined the rooftops and were set on high alert, awaiting the arrival of these protestors.

In silence, they walked, joining each other into one main crowd walking straight for the gala to protest the loss of civil rights in the transgender community.

Once in full view, the chief marshall took his place outside the heavily guarded barricade.

"One step closer and we open fire," He threatens, even though the last thing he wanted was to hurt these innocent lives.

There were fathers, mother, men, women, children walking in unison and it didn't matter as to whether or not they were trans.

It didn't matter to the gunmen either as the crowd disobeyed and took another step.

But as the massacre began, a low rumble in the distance grew closer.

A black mustang containing a crucial piece of the resistance was roaring through the darkness, it's headlights brightened to the max as Tizzy drove in a panic.

"Finley get in the back,"

She says to Fin and he turns to her.

"You're not going to-"

"I SAID GET IN THE BACK!"

She screams, not taking no for an answer as Finley quickly hops from the front seat and into Maisie's lap as Tizzy swerves the car to avoid the bullet fire from the rooftops as they approached the gala from the opposite side of the protest.

She drifts the car sideways as to fall to the opposite side where two flatbed trucks had war machines aimed at the unarmed protestors.

In a split second decision, Tizzy takes her final stand and hits the back of one of the trucks, killing those inside and forcing the truck to roll forward and hit the back of the other truck, sending it flying forward and into the building where the event was taking place.

The car thrashed everyone forward at 70mph and Marius held onto his cousin for dear life, using his strength as a seatbelt as the girls held his body and Mari held his head.

Shattered glass mingled with splatters of crimson as their ears numbed to the sound. A ringing settled and screaming could be heard from those around them as the car was surrounded by the crowd of protestors who were left in shock, willing to help those who had saved them.

Through the shattered glass in the back of the car, protesters were able to pull four disheveled bodies from the crash. Cassie and Maisie suffered minor scrapes but fainted from the shock of it all once they were pulled to the sidewalk. Marius and Finley stepped out of the car in a daze, also slightly banged up but mostly uninjured.

Fin stood facing the crowd in only a pair of sweatpants as multiple people checked to see if they were okay. He turned to see the heavy artillery had been disarmed by the car crash and the snipers had been ordered to stop.

But when he looks down, he realizes he's drenched in blood.

Blood that is not his own.

He looks back to the car and raises his hands to his hair, letting out a grief stricken scream that sends shock waves through the crowd.

The back of the car had been left untouched but the front had been totaled into jagged oblivion.

"TIZZY!"

Finley launched forward to Mari's shock, the glass digging into his foot but he didn't care as he tried to search for his friend.

Those who had already seen what he was looking for quickly held him back as he screamed her name without stopping until his throat could no longer provide a voice behind the words he wanted to say.

Mari takes hold of his dear cousin and holds him close to shield him from the grizzly sight of their fallen hero.

"Finley, I'm sorry about your friend but there will be time to grieve later. We have to find Kaeden."

Mari gently reminds the tearful man who held prominence in the leader's life. He drags Finley away by force as they make their way towards the back entrance of the gala.
