Chapter 479
King of the Underworld
King of the Underworld Adrik I caught Sephie observing me as we got dressed to go downstairs. I could tell she was noticing new things, but she wasnât sharing yet. Or the was talking to one of the guys and keeping me out of the conversation. It could go either way.
âAre you talking to someone else?â I asked before we left the bedroom.
She giggled. âNo. You were right. Iâm watching you. You feel different.â
âDifferent how?â I stopped her from leaving so I could hear her answer first before we shared everything with the guys.
She inhaled, thinking of how to word it. âBefore, you were always hot. Like me. Even more so than me, I think. Itâs one of my favorite things about you, if Iâm being honest. Now, you feel hot and coldâ¦â
âAt the same time?â 1 finished for her. She grinned at me.
âYou can feel it too?â
âI did when your dad zapped me. Normally, my anger is always present. Itâs always hot, to varying degrees, like you said. But when your dad zapped me, everything got turned up. My fire was a raging inferno, but it felt cold at the same time. But the kind of cold that will burn you,â I said.
She chewed on her bottom lip, her eyebrows scrunched as she thought about what she was feeling and what Iâd just said. She looked up at me, eyes changing to purple as I watched. âYouâre the balance between good and evil now.â
âDid you look in my head for that answer?â I asked.
She looked confused. âNo. It just popped in my head. Were you thinking it just now?â
her âNo, but thatâs what your dad said to me. You, me, and Ivan. Eventually the Wonder Twins and Stephen, too. Weâre all the balance between good and evil.â
âSide note, we need to come up with a new nickname for the three of them. It feels awkward to always say âand Stephen,â she said, grinning at me.
I pulled her to me forcefully, making her squeal. âI just love you,â I said, laughing along with her as I gave her a quick kiss. I went to open the bedroom door and she used the opportunity to jump on my back to hitch a ride downstairs. Honestly, I couldnât think of anything I wouldâve loved more in that moment.
Ivan was the first one we saw when we came downstairs. He was in the kitchen, looking for something for lunch. âHave somebody get Vinnyâs for everyone, if you guys havenât eaten,â I said. âIâm starving.â
âOn it,â Ivan said, pulling out his phone. He typed a quick message, then put his phone back in his pocket. âItâll be her shortly,â he said. âDo I have to wait until the food arrives to hear what happened to you?â
Sephie giggled and hugged me tighter. âI think you should make him wait,â she said.
âWhy do you ha te me now, princess?â he said, clutching his heart.
âYou didnât let me finish! I think he should make you wait until the rest of the guys are here,â she said, innocently. He looked at her skeptically, knowing full well that is not what she meant when she first said it, which made her laugh again. âYou love me, Squish. Donât even try to lie.â
I deposited her on the counter, grabbing a glass from one of the cabinets. I filled it with water, drank half, then handed the rest to her. She finished it, handing me the empty glass along with her sweet smile.
Ivan was watching our exchange with a devious grin on his face. âYou two are extra di sgusting right now. And by di sgusting, I mean f**king adorable.â
Sephie looked at me, trying to be serious. âSquish feels left out!â she announced. She opened her arms toward him, but did not make a move to leave her spot on the counter. âCome here, Squish. Bring it in.
Come on. You know you want to,â she said, trying so hard to not laugh, but failing miserably at it. Her laughter is what brought the rest of the guys to the kitchen.
Ivan heard them coming and walked to Sephie quickly, wrapping his substantial arms around her.
âGotta get in here before everyone else shows up.â he said, laughing along with her.
âYouâre my favorite,â she said in a very loud whisper as everyone else walked in the kitchen. She knew she would cause objections from everyone else. She mightâve enjoyed that part.
âWhy is it that Boss is the one that got zapped and likely has a new level unlocked, but you look like it was you?â Misha asked, looking at Sephie clowning with Ivan when they walked in.
âItâs new level by osmosis. Itâs this new thing weâre trying out. I donât know how itâs going to work with the red pandas though. Pancakes and water donât mix,â she said.
âI thought you said you ha ted school and never paid attention?â Stephen asked in his usual thoughtful way. âYou have impressive range.â
She laughed. âI said I ha ted school and never paid attention. I didnât say I wasnât still a straight A student.
âTouché,â Misha said as he walked to the fridge to look for something to eat.
âDonât bother, my adorable Russian guardian. Vinnyâs is on the way,â she told him, âI love you so much right now,â Misha said.
âDonât love me. Love him. It was his idea,â she said, pointing to me.
Misha turned to look at me, then very seriously said, âI love you so much right now.â
âAwww. See Ivan? Weâre not the only ones that are di sgusting right now. Itâs spreading.â she said.
âGross,â Ivan said, smiling at her. âNow that everyone is here, I want to know what happened.â
âYouâre very impatient,â she said, still enjoying teasing him. She looked at him for a minute, much the same way she was looking at me earlier before we came downstairs. She grinned at him. âItâs not you thatâs impatient right now. Your demon is all itchy.â
He looked at her, clearly surprised. âIs that what this is?â He looked at me, saying, ânow I understand why you needed to go to the gym yesterday.â
I looked at Ivan, noticing what Sephie was seeing. âYeah, sheâs right. I think your demon might already know what happened. Itâs excited.â
âYou can see it now too?â Andrei asked.
âNot in the way you might think. I can tell the difference between Sephie and her demon. Itâs becoming clearer for Ivan now too. Itâs very clear with mine. He apparently has his own thoughts and feelings,â I said, unable to hide my smile as I looked at Sephie. She giggled as I walked to her, standing in between her legs while still facing everyone else. She slid her arms and legs around me, resting her chin on my shoulder.
âHave you had a conversation with it yet?â Misha asked, curious, âNo. I donât know if that will happen or not, but I can feel what he feels now, I donât know if itâs the same for him or not,â | said.
âIs this the new level?â Stephen asked.
I could feel Sephie shaking her head no. âNope. You are especially going to love the new level, Yoden.
But donât be jealous. Iâm still impressed you gave us the clue first. Thatâs normally my job,â she said.
Stephenâs mind was racing, trying to piece together what sheâd just told him. His eyes went wide once he landed on the answer. âSeriously?â he asked, H completely astonished.
âWell, no. Not exactly like you said. No crushing is involved,â I said, trying to see if everyone else could figure it out as well.
âDisappointing.â Stephen said.
âOkay, youâre going to have to enlighten the rest of us because we have no clue what youâre talking about,â Misha said.
âI can remove souls and demons and condemn them to H ell,â I said, matter-of-factly.
âNo longer disappointing.â Stephen said quietly, a look of awe on his face.
