Chapter 346
The Imposter Bride (Natalia and Magnus)
"Steady on, Diana. Keep it together."
Diana took a deep breath, reminding herself to stay composed, to not let Magnus think she was some country bumpkin.
So, with all the poise she could muster, she brushed a strand of hair from her face, a gesture she thought made her look sophisticated and dignified.
"Mr. Andersen," she said with a smile, "those items are my daily essentials. I'm accustomed to high-end products, and I'm afraid I wouldn't adjust well to anything else."
A smirk played on the corners of Magnus' mouth, but he didn't say anything. He turned his attention to James instead.
James shrugged, helpless against such a high-maintenance lady.
"Mr. Andersen," Diana chimed, "when are we leaving? I can't wait to go to Melfort." She pulled out a clean napkin from her purse and carefully laid it on her airplane seat, only sitting down after she was sure her body wouldn't touch the seat directly. She then stared at Magnus with what she hoped was a ladylike demeanor. "Mr. Andersen, are we ready to take off?"
Magnus felt a shiver run down his spine under her gaze. If it wasn't for his need to gather information about his wife's whereabouts, he wouldn't be anywhere near this nauseating woman. Suppressing his discomfort, he said to Diana, "I'll check in the cockpit. We should be ready to take off any minute." He then quickly stood up, pulling James with him. "Come on, let's go ask."
Once out of Diana's sight, Magnus dropped his polite facade and turned to James. "I have a daunting task for you, James. Once we land in Melfort, you're in charge of handling Diana!"
James groaned, "Magnus, can't you spare me? These babes may be visually appealing, but they're high maintenance! I have no interest in them!"
Magnus gave James a sympathetic look before saying, "Bro, that's life. Get used to it." He then clapped James on the shoulder and walked towards the cockpit.
The pilot received Magnus' instructions and started the take-off procedure. As the ground grew distant, Diana turned to Magnus, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Mr. Andersen, this is my first trip abroad. I hope it will leave me with unforgettable memories."
"Really? You've never traveled abroad before?" Magnus asked, not believing her words.
Diana nodded confidently. "Well, not exactly. This is just my first time traveling with a stranger, especially this close." As she finished her sentence, Diana shyly looked down, missing the look of annoyance on Magnus' face and the smug expression on James'.
The private jet safely landed in Melfort after several hours. As soon as the plane steadied, Diana looked out of the window with curiosity. Once the stairs were set, she eagerly exited the aircraft, admiring the scenery and expressing her awe, "Wow! Melfort is so beautiful!"
James rolled his eyes, mentally ridiculing Diana's gullibility.
Magnus walked down the stairs with Diana and arranged for her to stay at the Andersen Corporation's five-star hotel. "Miss Diana, rest for a bit. I'll take you out for dinner later, a small gesture of hospitality for your long journey," he said.
Diana blinked in surprise, nodding her head. "Thank you. There's no need for such a grand welcome."
Magnus said, "I'm merely offering some hospitality." He then said his goodbyes. "I need to go back to the office to sort some things out. I'll come back for you later in the evening, goodbye."
Watching Magnus leave, Diana stood at the entrance of the hotel for a while before finally walking in.
She took the elevator to the presidential suite and unpacked her numerous suitcases, selecting clothes and makeup for the evening.
After much deliberation, she finally settled on an outfit and applied her makeup. As evening fell, she was satisfied with her look but regretted not bringing more clothes. She thought to herself that she would need to go on a shopping spree soon.
A polite knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Diana opened the door, her excitement quickly fading when she saw James standing outside without Magnus. "Where's Mr. Andersen? He said he'd come to pick me up," she asked, her face falling.
James inwardly rolled his eyes. This woman really had some nerve, expecting everyone to cater to her. Humph! "Mr. Andersen is on his way; he'll be here soon. Can you have a little patience?" No sooner had James dropped these words than Diana, with her eagle eyes, spotted Magnus coming down the hallway towards them.
She pushed past James with force, strutting towards Magnus in her towering stilettos. As she sashayed over, she cooed in a saccharine voice, "Mr.
Andersen, why are you so late? I've been waiting for you for ages."
Magnus looked at the heavily made-up Diana, her perfume assaulting his nostrils even before she reached him. It was so overpowering it made him want to retch.
But Magnus was always the epitome of grace. He just slightly furrowed his brow before quickly plastering on a polite smile. "I am a bit late, aren't I?
Are you hungry? I've reserved a table at a top-notch restaurant. Let's head there right now."
