CHAPTER 8
CEO
Nina understood his seriousness about work. He wouldnât tolerate even the slightest mistake. But this matter couldnât be blamed on her; he was with Miranda last night at the hospital. âYou said you were busy and hung up,â replied Nina.
Nash was silent for a second before pursing his lips. âHow did you handle it?â
At that time, Nina was already at the hospital, she explained, âThere wasnât time to handle it then, Iâ¦â
âSecretary Nina,â he said coolly, deliberately using her title rather than acknowledging her as his wife. âI recall your work never having such errors.â
He emphasized âSecretary Nina,â reminding her of her role as his secretary, not his spouse. Nina bit her lip, finding it hard to speak. âWork can still proceed at the construction site; the problem isnât significant, in my opinion.â
âWhen problems arise, donât rush to make excuses for yourself. This is something I taught you before,â he distanced himself. âCome to the office immediately!â
With that, he hung up decisively. Nina felt uneasy, but she didnât have time to dwell on it. Yesterday, she went to the hospital and didnât check on the construction siteâs situation afterward. She didnât even know if it had worsened.
She quickly got ready and prepared to head to the office. Yvonne had just gotten out of bed and, seeing Nina hurriedly dressing, yawned. âWhy are you up so early? Where are you going?â
âI have some things to attend to at the office.â
âThings have gotten to this point, and youâre still thinking about him,â Yvonne grumbled, then thought for a moment. âWell, Iâve already sent the divorce agreement to Nashâs company.â
Nina, putting on her shoes, spoke as she moved. âYouâve sent it?â
âYeah, I had it expedited and sent it early this morning. Nash should have received it by now.â
Yvonne was quicker to act than Nina. She mentioned divorce, so Yvonne was eager for her to proceed with it.
But this was inevitable, sooner or later it would happen, she said, âMight as well, since weâre heading for divorce anyway.â
Yvonne held her arm again. âWhether I become a wealthy lady in the future depends on whether you have a conscience! Nina, youâve got to be more assertive, use some tactics, and fight for whatâs rightfully yours!â
Nina saw Yvonneâs excitement, even more than her, the main party in this. She didnât dare dwell on it too much, just responded casually, âGot it.â
In the CEOâs office, Nash was busy with work. Quincy walked in, holding a sealed leather bag. âMr. York, this is an urgent document delivered by courier.â
âOkay.â
The brown envelope was placed in front of him as Quincy left. Nash glanced at it indifferently before casually opening it. Inside lay the âDivorce Agreement.â His expression shifted immediately as he took out the agreement to read. After reading it, his face darkened, and a cold smirk played on his lips. âShe really has some nerve.â
Asking him to divide two-thirds of his assets to her, and that would end the marriage cleanly; otherwise all his dirty laundry would be aired. Nashâs face remained sour throughout.
The companyâs core staff were trembling with fear, afraid to even breathe. They had no idea what was going on; it felt like they had walked into a minefield early in the morning, and no one dared to take another step closer.
Nash skimmed through the documents, his tone icy. âWhy wasnât I notified immediately when the accident happened? Who was injured? Was the patient given prompt care?â
Taylor lowered her head, trembling, and nervously said, âMr. York, the situation was urgent at the time, I couldnât reach you on the phone. It was me and Ninaâ¦â Nash interrupted her with a furrowed brow. âItâs her negligence.â
Taylor felt extremely remorseful, her voice choked with tears, almost crying, âIt wasnât intentional on Ninaâs part either. The accident happened so suddenly. I blame myself for not taking better care of Nina. At that moment, a piece of glass fell and hit her head, causing her injury and hospitalization. It also halted construction at the site for a day, delaying progress. Mr. York, itâs my fault.â
Upon hearing this, Nash was stunned for a moment. âWhat did you say? Nina got injured?â
Taylor raised her head in bewilderment, then asked anxiously, âMr. York, donât you know? Nina was hit with a concussion. The first thing she said when she woke up was about work, not even caring much about her own health. I couldnât reach you on the phone yesterday, so I didnât mention it. I thought Nina would tell you.â
