CHAPTER 7
CEO
After spending some time at the hospital, she left disheartened with injuries.
âNina!â
When Ninaâs best friend, Yvonne Turner, saw Ninaâs pale face and the wound on her head, she quickly caught her. âOh my, where did you get hurt?â
Nina remained silent.
âYou were at work during this time, so this must be a work injury,â Yvonne said. âWhereâs Nash?â
âI donât know.â
Yvonne noticed that her expression wasnât good, and it wasnât just about the injury. She sneered, âYouâve worked diligently for him, injured your head like this, and yet he, as your husband, canât even be found. This husband of yours is as good as dead.â
âIt wonât be for much longer.â
âWhat? He wants to divorce you?â Yvonneâs expression changed.
âI want to divorce him.â
Yvonneâs attitude changed again. âThen divorce him, right away!â Then she warned her, âRemember to split the property in half. Smart women know that the first step is to get the money. If you have money, you wonât be afraid of not finding a good man. You can find several more, obedient ones who will serve you every day!â
Their relationship had been a contract from the start. If they divorced, she wouldnât get anything.
âNina.â
Yvonne suddenly called her name again, frowning at her. âWhy do you suddenly want to divorce him? Youâve liked him for so many years; you wouldnât give up easily unless heâs cheating.â Ninaâs face turned ugly, and a bitter smile tugged at her lips. âHavenât you seen the news? Miranda is back.â
âIt hasnât been long since Miranda returned, and theyâre already together,â Yvonneâs emotions escalated, continuing her criticism. âCheating within marriage is a greater sin, so you should get a larger share of the assets. Nina, Iâm warning you, donât be soft-hearted. Regardless of whatâs right or wrong, as long as youâre married, youâre entitled to half of the assets. If not half, at least a third. And heâs cheating on top o it. If he doesnât agree, weâll make it public, and then letâs see if he still has any face left!â
âIâve made up my mind.â
Ninaâs reaction was calm. She never made decisions without certainty. By speaking up, she indicated that she was truly tired and didnât want to continue this hopeless marriage. âIâll come to your place tonight. I donât want to see him.â
Just the thought of Nash spending a night with Miranda would make her uncomfortable. She didnât want to risk another argument. At the brink of divorce, there was no need to add unnecessary worries. She thought, there was no need to return to that home that didnât belong to her.
âAlright, come over to my place. Iâll whip up some chicken soup for you. The York family is just awful. See how theyâve made you so thin. Truly despicable!â Yvonne grumbled as she supported Nina, expressing her frustration with the situation.
Nash returned the next morning. Upon entering the bedroom, he found it empty, the bed neatly made. Normally, at this time, she would still be asleep.
âWhere is she?â Nash asked.
The helper hesitated. âMrs. York didnât come back last night.â
Nash remembered clearly. She had called him yesterday, and nothing seemed amiss. Why would she suddenly not come home?
He didnât want to focus all his attention on Nina. Without further inquiry, he took a shower and went to work.
It was only at the office that he learned about the accident at the construction site yesterday. He wasnât there, so the responsibility fell on Nina. Yet, she was nowhere to be found. These past few days, she seemed to be out of sorts at work.
Nash immediately called Nina. Nina had just finished showering when she heard her phone ringing. Seeing Nashâs name, her expression turned complicated before she answered, âWhatâs the matter?â âWhere were you last night?â Nashâs tone was cold.
âI was at a friendâs place.â
Nash asked sternly, âThere was a serious accident at the construction site. Why didnât you tell me?â
