CHAPTER 127
CEO
Nina was a bit at a loss and politely greeted, âHello, Grandpa George.â
Georgeâs eyes widened slightly in surprise. This matter had never reached his ears before, but then he burst into a hearty laugh. âWell, well, youâre all grown up and married now. When did you get married? You and your grandfather are cut from the same cloth. Such a big event, and you didnât even inform me. Itâs a shame Iâm only meeting your wife now.â
George and Nashâs grandfather were comrades in their youth. They had shared life and death together, fought side by side on the battlefield, achieved many successes, and made significant contributions. However, they later diverged in their future paths. George entered politics, while Nashâs grandfather pursued business, leading to less interaction between them.
George scrutinized Nina and nodded approvingly. âSheâs a fine girl, Nash. You have good taste. This young lady seems kind-hearted.â
Nash explained, âOur marriage was kept simple, without any publicity. And since you were abroad, we didnât inform you. She prefers a quiet life, and weâve been low-key all along.â
George didnât seem too bothered either, remarking, âYou guys are quite different from other young couples.
âSheâs been through a lot because of you,â he continued.
As a daughter-in-law of the York family, she had never been publicly acknowledged. It was natural to feel overlooked when others werenât aware. Despite that, she endured with dedication, not vying for anything, already proving herself a good person.
Nash didnât refute it, saying, âShe certainly did.â
Nina couldnât help but glance at Nash, unsure if he was simply reassuring George or if he genuinely meant it. Others might find their secret marriage odd, but he would use her as an explanation to address those doubts.
She didnât entirely object to this tactic, as she also put in considerable effort to keep their relationship concealed. However, when he suddenly remarked that she had endured hardships, it made her feel acknowledged, as if her efforts hadnât gone unnoticed over the years.
âNina, are both your parents still around? How many people are there in your family, and what line of work are they in?â George was inquisitive about Nina, as any elder naturally would be.
Nina could understand and was about to speak when Nash preempted, âNina comes from an ordinary family. Her parents are both working-class.â
George nodded in understanding
and remarked, âBeing ordinary is just
fine, in fact, itâs more than fine. Nash, donât misunderstand me. As an
elder,
itâs
my duty to ask about your
wife so I can stay informed. As long
as your relationship is strong,
nothing else really matters.â Content
With his reassurance, Nash felt at ease. Nina hadnât said much, but she realized that George was easygoing, cheerful, and kind.
George talked too much and started coughing Nina quickly poured him some water, adjusted his pillow to make him more comfortable. She was quite good at taking care of people.
George took a sip of water. âNana, donât fuss. Just sit down.â
His affectionate way of addressing her was also a form of approval.
Nina replied, âItâs okay. Taking care of you and Nash has become second nature to me. Iâm used to it.â
George looked at Nash
disapprovingly. âThis wonât do. Nash,
as a man, should take care of you Youâre a girl. Nash should be the one taking care of you. This wonât.
Nash. A real man shoulde
care
of his wife. Thatâs the bottom line.â
He lectured Nash sternly.
Georgeâs words warmed Ninaâs heart. He was just like Nashâs grandfather-respectful and caring towards women.
Listening to the advice, Nash said, âGrandpa George is right.â He took Ninaâs hand and pulled her into his arms. âIâll take good care of Nina from now on.â
Nina also wanted to maintain Nashâs image: âGrandpa George, please donât misunderstand. Nash has always been good to me and has never mistreated me.â âThatâs good to hear,â George said, relieved. A man who cherished his wife would be happy in marriage.
âGrandpa George,â came a voice from outside. Though Nina hadnât seen the person yet, the voice sounded familiar. Melody walked in holding a bouquet of flowers.
