CHAPTER 120
CEO
He did as she wanted; she should be feeling really happy now.
Nina remained silent.
Seeing their gloomy faces, Linda tried to lighten the mood, saying, âNina, why donât you stay and have dinner with me?â
âIâm telling you, the cookâs dishes here are really delicious. Whatever you want to eat, she can make it. Isnât that amazing? You must try her cooking!â Linda introduced eagerly.
Ninaâs gaze shifted to Linda. âItâs not necessaryâ¦â
âIt is, it is,â Linda quickly replied, then looked at Nash as if she hadnât said it to him, âMr. York, can Nina stay for dinner with me? Iâve been here for so long, and I donât even have someone to eat with. Itâs very lonely.â
Nash glanced at Nina and said indifferently, âAs you wish.â
Satisfied with the response, Linda continued to pester Nina, âSee, Mr. York agreed, itâs okay.â
She was afraid Nina would feel awkward with Nash around.
âOkay then.â
Nina didnât delay any further and agreed to have dinner with her.
âThis quiet place suddenly became lively, Iâm so happy!â Linda said with a smile.
Nash looked at Nina and said distantly, âAre you going to stand here all the time?â
Feeling his displeasure, Nina pursed her lips and understood her place, âIâll go to the kitchen.â
But Linda didnât intend that, âNo, Nina is a guest, how can she go to the kitchen? She can stay here with meâ¦â Nina said, âIâll still go to the kitchen, you both can talk.â
She insisted on going to the kitchen, with a hint of defiance and stubbornness, and disappeared from their sight. Linda wanted to say something more, but seeing her leaving without a glance back, she sighed quietly.
She didnât mean to treat Nina as a helper.
She turned back, a bit puzzled, and asked, âMr. York, isnât she your secretary? Arenât you treating her like a helper?â
Nashâs expression turned extremely cold, his eyes sharp as he locked gazes with Linda. In that moment, the icy aura emanating from him made her stiffen involuntarily. Had she said something wrong?
She couldnât help but clench her fists to relieve the pressure, only to hear him say icily, âLinda, if youâre smart, you wouldnât go saying unnecessary stuff.â
Just a moment ago, they were chatting just fine, but as soon as Nina arrived, his demeanor changed instantly. Linda sensed danger. Perhaps she had said too much.
Nashâs temperament was unpredictable. Touching his sore spots meant he wouldnât show any mercy.
Understanding his boundaries, Linda refrained from being too outspoken and tactfully apologized, âSorry, Mr. York. I shouldnât have said those things.â
Nash didnât respond to her, his face cold and distant, his gaze flicking towards the kitchen before he stood up and left the living room.
Linda watched his retreating figure,
still somewhat enamored by his towering, godlike presence that had rescued her. She longed to get to know him better in the future so she wouldnât make mistakes, to show him that she was obedient and
could win his favor.
A smile played on her lips, filled with anticipation for the days ahead.
Nina was in the kitchen. Rather than saying she was accompanying Linda, it was more like she was accompanying them. Nash showed no intention of leaving. This wa within Ninaâs expectations. She was intentionally here, hoping for an opportunity.
Linda wasnât as apprehensive of Nash as she had been initially. On the contrary, she was quite enthusiastic about him. Perhaps being given a place to stay made her believe that Nash was truly the best person to her, so she became a bit closer to him.
âNina,â Linda suddenly spoke from behind.
Nina didnât turn around, plucking the leaves of the vegetables in her hand.
âHow many years have you been by Mr. Yorkâs side?â Linda asked curiously.
Nina paused. âWhy are you asking so many questions?â
âI just want to know how long youâve been by Mr. Yorkâs side. Do you know him well?â
